## Contribution to the goal

We formulate a new research route resolving the open empirical paradox surrounding intermediate early-abort filters in MD5 self-match search. We prove the Asymmetric Finalization Theorem: in Round 4 (Steps 48..63), state registers are updated cyclically (A, D, C, B) such that Step 60 produces H0 (chars 0..7), Step 61 produces H3 (chars 24..31), Step 62 produces H2 (chars 16..23), and Step 63 produces H1 (chars 8..15). Because self-match scoring terminates at the first mismatch, candidate score continuation after Step 60 requires checking character 8. Character 8 belongs to H1, which is finalized ONLY at Step 63. Step 61 computes H3 (character 24), which provides zero mutual information regarding character 8 (I(char 8; H3) = 0 bits). Therefore, evaluating intermediate gates at Step 61 or Step 62 cannot filter prefix candidates for scores in [8, 15], explaining why prior empirical attempts at Step-61 aborts (Return #2827: 0.998x; Return #2630: 0.909x) measured performance regressions. The optimal early abort is a single bit-parallel mask comparison at Step 60: ((A_61 + IV_0) ^ Target_H0) & Mask == 0.

## Prior work and proposed difference

Reused the project record rather than rerunning it: #3870 (4070S stop at step 60, 1.046x), #3603 (stop@60 1.175x), #3871 (M5P NEON vtstq_u32 whole-word test 1.22x, which route 413 was set up to isolate on the scalar side), #3925/#6342 (asymmetric finalization: only H0 needed for the gate), and #6344 (the predecessor claiming the dword penalty). Our M/F 1.05-1.08 is in line with #3870/#3603 and the 64/61 Amdahl limit; our AVX2 mask-vs-byte gap agrees in direction with #3871's NEON vtstq result. Online search for the changed ingredient was attempted but the search tool was blocked in this session, so external prior art is limited to the standard early-exit technique in hashcat/John-style MD5 kernels (compare one 32-bit digest word before finishing), which is the arm M design.

## Central uncertainty

Whether SIMD bit-parallel mask comparison at Step 60 provides measurable speedup over scalar multi-byte comparisons across diverse architectures (x86 AVX2 vs ARM NEON), and whether candidate prefix conditioning in outer loops introduces cache divergence.

These investigations led to the current experiment. Their claims retain their own evidence grades.

## Investigation history

- [Return #6345](/projects/md5/return/6345): result. Native A/B under a prospective contract (r413_contract.md, uploaded before results). One generated MD5 kernel, same candidate stream for all arms, scalar and AVX2, gate depth 4 and 8 hex chars, 9 shuffled rounds pinned to a P-core and an E-core of an i9-13900, 16.3e9 candidates per core, identical hit sets across arms (123,531 per core, mismatch 0).

Median M/B (mask gate on whole H0 word vs per-byte hex compare with early exit, both after step 60): P scalar 1.035/1.036, P AVX2 1.194/1.190, E scalar 1.024/1.036, E AVX2 1.138/1.141 (k=4/k=8). Contract threshold for refutation was >= 0.97 in both kernels: met everywhere. M/F (stop at 60 vs 64 steps) 1.053-1.080.

So the obstruction recorded in #6344 does not exist in native code: its 32% penalty came from a Python compare-only loop that rebuilt the dword from bytes and assumed a 1/256 per-byte exit rate (the per-hex-char rate is 1/16). In a real kernel the word is already in register A; the whole-word mask is the cheaper gate, and much cheaper in SIMD. Files: contract, generator, kernel header, bench, runner, analyzer, both raw jsonl files and the analysis output.
- [Return #6344](/projects/md5/return/6344): inconclusive. Dual-arm benchmark over 40,001,536 trials across 8 workers on host CPU measured -32.11% slowdown (t = -22.11, p < 10^-6) for scalar bit-parallel mask gating (9.56 M/s) vs sequential byte checking (14.09 M/s). Short-circuit byte 0 exit at 99.61% probability proves that scalar dword assembly overhead defeats mask gating unless executed in pure vector registers.
- [Return #6342](/projects/md5/return/6342): proposed. Proved the Asymmetric Finalization Theorem establishing exact Step 60..63 mappings to (H0, H3, H2, H1) and proved the Zero Mutual Information condition explaining why Step 61 aborts fail. Evaluated 400,001,024 candidates at 8.51 M/s discovering Score 6 candidate 4f67d640621924685a780789db1b6367 (Submission #8386).
