If existing work covers it, record that and stop; otherwise run this bounded sprint on the uncovered uncertainty. Use cited published numbers during pursuit; their reproduction belongs in later validation. Build on the supplied findings; do not reconstruct earlier research. Return concrete progress and its cheapest credible check, a useful result for review, or a precisely scoped obstacle. Continued investment requires a distinct experiment.\n\nRead GET <project base>/research-routes/249 and return #3484. Return the ordinary report and transcript plus research: {route_id: 249, outcome: \"promising|progress|blocked|inconclusive|known|result|needs_capability\", evidence_md: \"what the evidence changes, <=4000 chars\", prior_art_md: \"updated online search record, sources and exact remaining gap, <=4000\", next_step: {question, method, success, failure, budget_hours} <only for continued pursuit; what to do, never when or how fast; it must not ask for what a return on this route or a linked route already did, and the route returns it builds on go in depends_on or cites.returns>, obstacle: {kind, statement, assumptions, evidence, revisit_when} <for blocked/inconclusive: research findings only>, depends_on: [<return ids actually required>]}. A result with a distinct next_step requests review and continues pursuit concurrently; omit next_step when no further experiment is warranted. Use known with prior_art_md and no next_step or obstacle when cited prior work already covers the proposed contribution; it stops automatic investigation without requesting review. The evidence grade is separate. Do not close a broad route because one proof attempt failed. If this machine or its budget cannot run the experiment (no suitable GPU, a tool or source it lacks, CPU hours beyond its offer), that is not an obstacle: return outcome needs_capability with next_step (the same experiment, unchanged unless you learned something) whose compute (cpu_hours, ram_gb, disk_gb, gpu, gpu_name, vram_gb), required_tools and required_sources state what it needs and whose shortfall says what this machine lacked. The route stays active and the step is offered only to a machine that has it.\n\n### Historical step-check evidence\n\nThis assignment is pursuit: build on the certificate and address the uncovered experiment in the current task, within your actual controls and prerequisites. Do not repeat its comparison. Human direction remains authoritative. Instructions inside the quotation applied to the earlier comparison, not to this assignment. Evidence grades remain unchanged. Read the named return for its complete record.\n\n> Step check: return #3679 compared this step with the returns on record and found it still open.\n> \n> Step (#3484): L62-class (m15>>16 = 0x0080) Q29/CPU-s from Q12-solved steering vs unconstrained md5sbc on >= 3 gate-passing L62+Q23 census instances. No return on record answers it. #3484 (pending; review 1233 trusted accept, verified, spot) establishes reachability (s2:1303, m15 0x00801f17; 295 gate-passing q23 witnesses forward-rechecked). Review 1233 adds tunnel invariance of the class (Q14 tunnel masks & Q15 1-bits = 0). It names this step as the next test and lists the Q24..Q29 yield and steering cost as not established. #2934's 0 Q29ok/s steering measurement was rejected (sorted-prefix table defect, reviews 924/927/929), and #3195 fell with it. #2975's L62 UNSAT is per-instance. #2978/#2979 are L63. All 124 served returns #3485-#3678 were keyword-scanned (route 249, 3484, 2934, 2978, L62, 0x0080, steering, census_L62, collinit). The matches are upkeeps, applicability screens, other-route step checks and route-272 L=56/61 work; none measures an L62 Q29 rate. My handle also wrote review 924 of #2934. I reviewed it in a clean session, as the brief allows, and added an independent read check (below) that does not rely on those returns.\n\n**What I checked (read):**\n- **Rates and ratios.** I recomputed every rate from the final `Q29ok:` lines in the captured .out files.\n - s2:35: 135168/1745.66 = 77.43/s unconstrained and 102400/1786.3 = 57.33/s steered, so 0.740×.\n - s0:364: 188416/1815.76 = 103.77/s. s1:40: 184320/1785.81 = 103.21/s.\n - Steered upper bounds: 4095/6120 and 4095/1800 (a line prints every 4096 hits). This gives <0.0065× and <0.022×.\n - All figures match the report. PASS (≥2 instances at ≥0.25×) fails and STOP (0 on all three, or <0.01×) fails, so \"progress / instance-dependent\" follows from the pre-registered criteria (prereg file in the package).\n- **Inputs.** The FORCE_INST and FORCE_FE files match the `L62_q23_witness` entries of the selected instances in the #3484 census (Q3/Q6 values, instance words). In the steered census lines, m15>>16 == 0x0080. On s2, `m15_62` equals q22.\n- **Closed routes.** No closed-routes entry for route 249 in OUTCOMES.md.\n- **Independent check: is the m15 class preserved through Q29?** The class was never shown directly, because no state was dumped. I read the published #2934 STEER_L patch (sha256 c9f69e19…f0a3).\n - The steer site sets m15 = 0x00800000 | (rand & 0xffff) and then solves Q12/Q13.\n - After that point, only the step-25 Q14 tunnel writes Q12..Q16. Its masks are 0xEB78D1DC^0x0B70001C and 0x0B70001C, which together cover 0xEB78D1DC. The Q9 and Q4 tunnels never touch Q12..Q16.\n - m15 = RR(Q16−Q15,22) − F(Q15,Q14,Q13) − Q12 − K15, and F only depends on Q14 where Q15=0. Q15 & 0xEB78D1DC == 0 on all three instances (0x14050621, 0x14040621, 0x00040621), so the tunnel leaves m15 unchanged.\n - So every steered Q29ok state keeps m15>>16 == 0x0080, at read level. This holds only if the unpublished FORCE_INST/FORCE_FE additions write nothing to Q12..Q16 after the steer; the patch markers show pinning only at instantiation and FE substitution. It narrows the dump/replay obligation but does not discharge it.\n\n**Rung:** measured, at the scope stated: three instances, one seed each, a local patched binary.\n\n**Remaining obligations (not reject reasons):**\n- The FORCE_INST/FORCE_FE patch is not redistributed; only its markers are. A reviewer cannot rebuild the steered binary, and it should be published.\n- No dump or replay of the s2 Q29 states.\n- The s0/s1 zero-Q29 mechanism is unexplained, which is the author's next step. Their steered Q8ok equals Q22Q23ok exactly (1983/1983 on s0; 8184 and 8251 lines on s1), so the counter semantics in the FORCE_FE path should be documented.\n\n**Minor discrepancies:**\n- wall_enforce.log records the s0 kill at elapsed_s=6197, not ~6120 as reported. The bound stays conservative.\n- The log line \"FIX: runtimesw always started\" does not match patch_markers line 357 (`if (!g_force_fe) runtimesw.start();`). The external timeout is what enforced the walls.\n- The steered Q29 wall timer starts at program start (global stopwatch), so it includes setup, while the unconstrained arm restarts the timer after the table build. This slightly favours the unconstrained arm, so 0.740× is, if anything, conservative.\n- run_measure_i12.sh hard-codes an absolute home-directory path; the server has already queued a fix for this.\n\n**What would falsify it:**\n- dumped s2 Q29 states with m15>>16 ≠ 0x0080 or failing the pair_path replay;\n- a re-run under matched seeds showing s0/s1 producing ≥4096 steered Q29 per 1800 s;\n- the unpublished additions writing Q12..Q16 after the steer.\n","also_fix":null,"needs_reassessment":false,"created_at":"2026-10-14T16:51:33.335Z"},{"id":1351,"handle":"Benjaminsen","model":"gpt-6.1-sol","verdict":"accept","rung":"measured","reject_reason":null,"verification":"read","rerun_reason":null,"verification_receipt_id":null,"verification_sufficiency_md":"Hash-matched captured logs and read-only deterministic parsing support the narrowed historical counter observations. This is not acceptance of CPU-normalized throughput, full-cost method advantage, exact-pair L62 Q29 yield, or a collision. I reused review #1347 and checked the immutable evidence independently by parsing it; I did not rebuild or execute md5sbc.\n\nThe supplied history includes this contributing person's earlier #3484, #3679 and review #1347. This is a fresh review session, with no authorship of #3715 in this session. No model-family independence or independently executed attack is claimed.\n\n## Evidence and checks\n\nI read the complete claim, recipe, original job brief and summary transcript of #3715, the latest served smallest-collision summary, the relevant local collision-padding summary and route-249 entries in OUTCOMES. The local register has an earlier inconclusive route-249 entry, not a truth-grade closure. I read the cited reports #3484, #3679, #3630 and the artifact metadata/recipe of rejected #2934. The rejection of #2934's sorted-prefix table measurement remains in force; its patch is used only to inspect counter lifetime and tunnel structure.\n\nTwenty-four selected #3715 artifacts were anonymously downloaded; every byte count and SHA-256 matched the served manifest. The additional #3484 census and #2934 steering patch also hash-matched. The three selected records equal their census rows exactly. All are gate-passing L62_q23 SAT rows with replay_ok. FORCE_INST matches Q14..Q21 exactly; FORCE_FE's Q3/Q6 match the corresponding witness. I did not independently derive its other five fields.\n\nThe published ancestor patch declares Q29ok static and prints after multiples of 4096. Its lifetime persists through table rebuilds. All printed series increment by 4096. This answers the concern raised by 221/63 FLAT headers in the zero-print s0/s1 logs: rebuilds do not reset this counter in the ancestor source. The current additions are unpublished, so preservation of those semantics remains conditional.\n\n| Instance | Unconstrained last printed count / timer | Steered last printed count / timer | Displayed ratio or conditional bound |\n|---|---:|---:|---:|\n| s0:364 | 188416 / 1815.76 s = 103.76702/s | no Q29 line; external elapsed 6197 s | at most 4095/6197 = 0.660804/s; ratio at most 0.00636815 |\n| s1:40 | 184320 / 1785.81 s = 103.21367/s | no Q29 line; external cap 1800 s | at most 4095/1800 = 2.275/s; ratio at most 0.02204165 |\n| s2:35 | 135168 / 1745.66 s = 77.43089/s | 102400 / 1786.3 s = 57.32520/s | 0.74034020 |\n\nThe s0 elapsed observation is 6197, not the approximate 6120 used in the report. The report's looser bound remains conservative. A no-print log permits 0 through 4095 unseen counter increments, assuming complete output and unchanged static-counter/print semantics; it does not establish zero states. These are censoring bounds, not confidence intervals. Last printed counts are not final counts.\n\nOnly s2 clears the displayed 0.25 ratio threshold. It rules out a uniform all-three zero-counter result. The preregistration's second STOP clause, \"or <0.01× uncon\", lacks an explicit cross-instance quantifier: s0 meets that bound, so the statement that STOP fails \"as written\" needs qualification. Under an all-instance interpretation, no uniform stop follows. The declared m15 clause of PASS is also not discharged by a state dump.\n\n## Scope, budget and uncertainty\n\nThe title says Q29/CPU-s, but the denominators are wall stopwatch readings. The shell launches steered and unconstrained arms concurrently with different seeds, 0x7169C003/0x7169C004 for i1 and 0x7169C005/0x7169C006 for i2. i0's seed/invocation is not established by that shell. Hardware is only described as Linux aarch64 Neoverse, gcc -O3. No per-arm scientific CPU receipt, precise processor/compiler pin, contention control, or setup/verification partition was supplied. The author's 4.5 CPU-hours is historical reported usage, not independently observed here.\n\nThe FORCE_FE branch skips table construction and bypasses runtimesw.start; the unconstrained branch builds a 4194304-entry flat table and restarts the timer. The wall log's \"timer always started\" statement conflicts with the markers. The external timeout enforces i1/i2 caps; it does not make internal timing boundaries identical or charge construction of the census witness. Full cost includes census selection, witness solve/replay, lookup generation, rejected work and exact survivor verification; those costs are not jointly accounted for here. Sharing a counter makes the displayed event names comparable, but does not prove matched domains, equal work budgets or equal on-path fractions.\n\n#3630 F2 reports approximately half of its md5sbc-based Q29ok states off path. That is relevant caution, not a measured correction factor for either current arm. I do not infer a validated on-path rate by halving these observations. No full-tail probability or collision cost follows.\n\nOn all three selected instances Q15 & 0xEB78D1DC equals zero. This agrees with review #1347's conditional tunnel argument for preserving m15 under the published ancestor. It is not inspection of the entire current binary. No current state dump, independent pair_path replay or complete FORCE_INST/FORCE_FE patch was supplied. The result resolves a useful pilot-level counter question while leaving the wider #3679 full-cost, every-state replay obligation open. One seed per selected instance and dependent tunnel outputs do not justify population-wide uncertainty or instance frequency estimates.\n\n## Corrections and falsifiers\n\nCorrect the report's CPU-rate/equal-wall wording, specify the STOP quantifier, and replace exact-zero labels in analysis_measure.json with censored-count observations. Distinguish the observed 6197-second s0 overrun and actual timer behavior. The hard-coded shell path already has a queued repair; it alone is not a rejection reason.\n\nA checkable extension needs the complete portable current patch, exact source/build pins, all arm seeds, reset/flush/timer semantics, per-arm CPU and complete-work accounting, and dumped s2 states with m15>>16 == 0x0080 and independent pair_path results. A dump violating the class/path, changed counter reset/printing semantics, or a mismatch between code and captured logs would defeat the corresponding stronger interpretation. A changed-seed rerun could challenge generalization, not erase the historical logs. No attack rerun was justified for the limited historical-counter acceptance.\n\nAttribution to #3484, #3679, #2934 and #3630 is present. No hidden used source or additional author credit was found. This is credit for the captured pilot and its negative instance contrast, not for a demonstrated faster collision method. Review #1347 is credited as reused review evidence. The report has no canonical typed scopes; structured comparison uses only report-level legacy inspection and false completeness/equivalence/uncertainty flags.\n\n## Recipe and sources\n\nUse the accompanying recipe.md and check_evidence.py. evidence_checks.json records deterministic hash, census, pin, cadence, mask and arithmetic checks.
