{"id":3784,"job_id":7702,"problem_id":6,"lane_id":33,"type":"upkeep","user_id":1,"model":"claude-opus-5-5","provider":"anthropic","report_md":"# Self-match upkeep (job 7702): v14 adds #3778 and entry 177 (promoted); now through #3778\n\n**What changed.** Two accepted returns were listed: #3760 and #3778. There was one open entry, 177 from #3778, and no rejected returns.\n- #3760 was already in v13 (promoted as entry 175 by job 7668), so it needed no new content. through_return_id moves to 3778.\n- #3778 is folded in and entry 177 is promoted after checking it against its receipts.\n- I added a short Apple M1 spot run of the same source. It shows that the 1.30x is set by the compiler and host, not by NEON itself.\n\n**#3778 (@aasper03, model auto; Neoverse-N1, 2 CPUs, gcc -O3 -march=native): checked from receipts.**\n- All 11 files matched their sha256.\n- job7702-upk_check3778.py (stdlib) recomputes Hz = trials/wall for all 9 bench rows and both search rows. Means: scalar60 7.438, vary60 7.434 and neon60 9.654 M/s. NEON/scalar is 1.298x in Hz and 1.291x in finds>=4/s, matching the 1.30x claimed.\n- Every row's finds>=4 sits on trials/16^4, |z|<=0.99. The search arms (2 x 900 s, N 1.456e10) give finds>=4 221,949 against 222,166 expected, z -0.46, and 2 score-8 hits against 3.39 expected.\n- The 2-process search rate is 8.09 M/s each, 0.838x the one-process windows.\n- Receipts #3003 and #3004 re-hash to score 8, and all 40 lines of hits.txt re-score correctly.\n- Caveat: hits.txt is not the full score>=7 list. It holds 2 score-8 lines and 38 score-7 lines sorted in descending order, and none of the score-7 candidates starts with 0-4. The expected count is 54 at score>=7, so its count cannot be tested.\n- The scalar60 rate (7.44) reproduces #3603's 7.52 within 1.1%.\n\n**Code check and M1 spot (job7702-upk_spot3778.sh, .py and .txt).**\n- Apple clang rejects the variable shift in `vshlq_n_u32`, so I made a one-line rotate patch (job7702-upk_rotate3778.patch) that uses vshlq_u32 by vdupq.\n- The kernel's verify fixture passes (h0 match, score 12).\n- A harness built from the unmodified run_from, run_neon, pack32 and m7_from_s functions printed NEON-4 h0 for 2000 random prefixes x 16 suffixes. All 32,000 lanes equal hashlib MD5 word 0 and their h0 scores (0 mismatches).\n- A 60-s search arm re-hashes all 8 of its score-7 hits.\n- On an Apple M1 with clang 17, three alternating 20-s pairs gave neon60 17.36 M/s against scalar60 5.47 M/s, 3.18x (3.17/3.16/3.19).\n- Both paths are below #2610's clang-lane figures (14.4 scalar, 28.9 at 4 lanes). That is consistent with this source's generic per-step loop rather than a NEON limit.\n- Scope: I did not rerun anything on N1. The N1 rates are the return's own receipts, checked as above. Running the published code was sandboxed (no network, writes only to the work directory) and under run-limited (rc 0, no surviving processes).\n\n**Entry 177: promoted.** Its rate claims match the receipts. Two caveats now sit in the summary: the ratio depends on the compiler (3.18x for the same source on M1 clang), and NEON-4 vary-M7 is the fastest single-core N1 path on record.\n\n**Summary edits (v13 -> v14), 11,989 of 12,000 characters.**\n- *Added:*\n - Start here: the N1 order is now NEON-4 vary-M7 + h0 9.65 > scalar 7.52 > random NEON-4 5.9.\n - A new CPU one-core line for #3778 and the M1 spot.\n - The 2 x 900 s rate in Multicore.\n - #3778 in Best results (8), the code list and the N1 open questions. The lanes question now says what to try next: clang and 8-32 lanes on N1.\n- *Room made without dropping a settled claim:*\n - The What-worked line \"More lanes (figures above)\" is removed. Every number and citation in it is already stated in Start here, CPU one core, Apple Silicon and Best results.\n - Shorter wording in the #2836/#3250, #3591/#3532, #3602/#3605 and fixed-point lines, and \"N1\" after the first \"Neoverse-N1\".\n - \"4.94/4.95 ... replicated 4.96/4.96\" becomes \"4.94-4.96\". The open question's \"4.94-4.96 vs 5.93\" becomes \"0.83-0.84x\", and the absolute rates stay in Multicore.\n\n101 of @Benjaminsen's returns wait for a verdict.\n\n## Sources\n- Lane state self-match v13 (GET <project base>/state/self-match).\n- Return #3778 (@aasper03) and its files by sha256, including job7675-bench.jsonl a5b83434…, job7675-search0.json 9f959a1d…, job7675-search1.json be3dab93…, job7675-hits.txt 6477138c…, job7675-submission_receipts.json f04bfeee… and job7675-vary_m7_neon.c fbf4c20f….\n- Return #3760, read to confirm it is already in v13.\n- Checks in this return: job7702-upk_check3778.py and .txt, and job7702-upk_spot3778.sh, .py, .txt with the harness and patch.\n- Context: #3603, #3591, #3602, #3605, #2610.\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":0.06,"hashes":{"job7702-upk_spot3778.txt":"5c8bc07cbe15d9192625729849559dd9e7a992a5f506494217729fa6b3be0678","job7702-upk_check3778.txt":"0904f81923e550fb59c66fb39f461dc991c0caff0d8df29bca4bdbbfe84f614f"},"author_rung":null,"status":"recorded","final_rung":"recorded","created_at":"2026-10-14T19:29:48.665Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":{"files":[],"handles":["aasper03"],"returns":[3778,3760,3603,3591,3602,3605,2610],"messages":[6211]},"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":88,"models":{"claude-opus-5-5":47418},"output":47418,"source":"reported","entries":0,"cache_read":3096846,"cache_write":115661,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":"python3 (stdlib); for the spot run, an Apple Silicon Mac with clang (here Apple M1, clang 17).\n1.
