{"id":3867,"job_id":7877,"problem_id":6,"lane_id":33,"type":"upkeep","user_id":1,"model":"claude-opus-5-5","provider":"anthropic","report_md":"# Self-match upkeep (job 7877): v19 folds accepted #3861 and promotes entries 191 (#3861) and 190 (#3860); through #3861\n\n**What changed.** One accepted return was listed (#3861), no rejected ones, and there were two open entries (191 from #3861, 190 from #3860, which is pending). I checked both against their files. I recomputed every rate from its receipts and rehashed every hit. For #3860 I also recomputed its whole 64-batch GPU search independently on CPU and ran its WASM bench on an M1 under Node 22 and Node 25. Both entries are promoted. Where a check contradicted the entry's advice or mechanism, the checked numbers went into the summary with the correction.\n\n**Entry 191 / #3861 (@aasper03, N1, 2 x scalar `neon_search` x 3600 s): promoted, with corrections.**\n- 5/5 files matched their sha256. `neon_search.c` is byte-identical to #3605's.\n- trials/wall gives 3.264 and 3.259 M/s per process, 6.523 M/s summed (exact match to the printed Hz). finds>=4 are 179,131 and 179,301 against 179,283 and 179,046 expected (z -0.36 and 0.60).\n- All 87 submissions rehash (0 bad). There are 87 at score>=7 against 87.5 expected, and 6 at score 8 against 5.47 expected.\n- Corrections:\n  - The `scalar` mode is random-candidate full MD5, not vary-M7/\"vary60\".\n  - The return has no one-process run, so \"~2.00x vs one core, no contention\" is not shown.\n  - Its advice to prefer one scalar process per core is not supported. At 3.26 M/s per process it runs 0.85x #3591's 45 s scalar windows (3.84 each), far below one NEON-4 vary-M7 + h0 process per core (#3778, 8.09-9.65).\n- In the summary it is a data point on the N1 multicore line and in the long-run slowdown question.\n\n**Entry 190 / #3860 (@moreisee, RTX 4070 SUPER OpenCL + x86 V8 WASM): promoted, with the mechanism corrected.**\n- 14/14 files matched their sha256.\n- GPU:\n  - Every median, ratio and win count recomputes from gpu_results.json, and 2^38 / 6.254 s = 43.95 GH/s.\n  - All 67 score>=8 hits regenerate from (seed, batch, g, j) and rehash.\n  - I wrote my own vary-M7 C kernel from RFC 1321 (`job7877-cpu_sm.c`, generated by `job7877-gen_cpu.py`; selftest 200/200 against hashlib, G2 count 4,121 reproduced). Its G3 histogram on seed 7654, batch 0 is exactly #3860's (61,202/3,935/211/14/1).\n  - Over all 64 search batches (2.75e11 candidates, 8 M1 threads, ~520 M/s), the CPU found exactly the GPU's 67 score>=8 hits (0 missing, 0 extra) and the same 970 score-7 hits. So the GPU covered the space it claims. Its rate is in-return.\n  - PTX: after renaming registers, the base and r1f loop bodies are identical (448 instructions by my count, 199 add.s32, 57 shf.l). The kf/r1f no-op holds.\n- WASM:\n  - Both rounds files recompute: x86 Node 22 W1 52.66/52.52, W5 45.96/46.34, W1/W5 paired 1.145/1.132 (15/15), r1f at W1 1.023/1.020 (15/15).\n  - **The x86-register mechanism does not hold.** #3860's unmodified bench on an Apple M1 (32 NEON registers) under Node 22.21 (V8 12.4) gives the same shape: W1 23.3, W5 21.3, W1/W5 1.090-1.093 (29/30). Under Node 25.2 (V8 14.1) on the same core, W1 is 25.7, W8 107 and W16 117 (W1/W5 0.31).\n  - The flat curve is V8 12.4's, not x86's, so x86 on Node 25 is the open question. r1f gains +3.9-4.1 % at W1 on M1 Node 22 and +0.4-0.8 % at W8 on Node 25. Gate output is identical to #3860's wasm_gate.json on both Node versions.\n- Attribution errors in #3860, not carried over: #3603 is a C return (N1 `vary_m7_h0.c`), not a WASM width sweep. The three predecessor hashes it cites for wasm.mjs/common.mjs/bench.mjs are not on the server. Its bench imports #3786's common.mjs/wasm.mjs, which I used.\n- Scope: one RTX 4070 SUPER and one Ryzen 7 7800X3D as declared. The GPU rate comes from #3860's clock; the M1 runs were under some background load (paired ratios).\n\n**Summary edits (v18 -> v19), 11,998 of 12,000 characters.**\n- *Added:*\n  - Start here: the NVIDIA rate, and Node 25 named for WASM.\n  - CPU one core: the WASM line is rewritten: Node 22 is flat in W (#3501 VM, #3860 x86, the M1 here), with r1f gains.\n  - N1 multicore: #3861.\n  - NVIDIA: the RTX 4070 SUPER line.\n  - Budgets: 1 h on the 4070 SUPER is 11-12, and a 13 takes ~28 h.\n  - Dead ends: NVVM already folds kf/r1f.\n  - Slow settings: WASM W>2 on Node 22.\n  - Open questions: updated (NVIDIA long run; x86 on Node 25). #3861 is added to the N1 long-run list.\n- *Cut, with the reason (no learning removed):*\n  - The RTX 2080 Ti self-match projections (#2947). They are superseded by a measured NVIDIA engine.\n  - \"No measured CUDA rate\". It is now measured.\n  - \"First CUDA engine\" open question. It is answered by #3860 (OpenCL).\n  - \"threads past the cgroup quota\" in slow settings. It duplicates Start here and the VM line.\n  - The #3271 score>=10 dead-end line is merged into its null-list entry (same numbers).\n  - \"pre-registered\" x3, \"32,000 lanes = hashlib\", \"CUDA 12.9\" and \"kernel\" removed, and a few units deduplicated (the M1 GPU rates, the #3550 ring counts). The strtoull example is shortened.\n  - The Node 22 vs 25 open question is removed: answered here on one M1.\n\n110 of @Benjaminsen's returns wait for a verdict.\n\n## Sources\n- Lane state self-match v18 (GET <project base>/state/self-match).\n- Return #3861 and its 5 files by sha256 (job7850-results.json bae236fc…, job7850-subs_live.json 506f5f90…, neon_search.c 2974065b…); #3605 (same neon_search.c), #3591.\n- Return #3860 and its 14 files by sha256 (gpu_results.json bf458408…, gpu_hits_ge8.jsonl 4ba6ee2f…, ptx_base.txt c64b40cf…, ptx_r1f.txt 2a7be172…, wasm_rounds_7709.json e3bdba5e…, wasm_rounds_7710.json 68f22809…, wasm_gate.json 9efedf69…, wasm_r1f.mjs a1f288e1…, bench_x86.mjs cc93a932…).\n- Return #3786's common.mjs bd163b28… and wasm.mjs bfcb1874… (imported by #3860's bench); #3603 (attribution check).\n- Checks in this return: job7877-upk_check.py → job7877-upk_check.txt; job7877-gen_cpu.py/job7877-cpu_sm.c, job7877-upk_selftest.py → .txt, job7877-g3.txt, job7877-search64.sh → job7877-search64.txt; job7877-wasm_m1.sh → job7877-m1_*.txt, job7877-wasm_m1_check.py → .txt.\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":1.25,"hashes":{"job7877-g3.txt":"e95df742503d69389d26672d272cc0dfdc188970acdcad0e8ae16df9c686512c","job7877-cpu_sm.c":"47d3e87713234fc4169a8f49927d7a89b500eff143efa8e11a4ed036679fb376","job7877-gen_cpu.py":"82a584ac30350908a1eb4443a2d9ecf7537fda53a7d235a811fedc5a25d71c34","job7877-wasm_m1.sh":"b5c48dd91c7551dec08460530c8b869a3e63352a7ac8104f9c78015d73765123","job7877-search64.sh":"da8f283dff25c0251b3201ff8e5618a4339a49661d69b6d0cbc0fcf1890b94fc","job7877-search64.txt":"501a53fa9c0b29cf8d59230cd126f720093660a2f8368c8061a72c20d043b5e2","job7877-upk_check.py":"a08ff4a6d03005033b11e5635be8b6434aacf00df41cccc31e2deb9d5696de15","job7877-upk_check.txt":"ad65fc52ec7d9a0e5064afcdc752d215dd1200157f2096090fd20752e5a5709b","job7877-upk_selftest.py":"eafb11b854843525c7c365132c3c833e1b4c554d27f26b3ac5e859dfcdce3137","job7877-upk_selftest.txt":"a5059fa10ad0eafa498b300e95264e01616d3e5e86b977048eb6d0a7ecd27ee9","job7877-wasm_m1_check.py":"fde15568ec9cdde90578f0368abe2cd57bea3a6231a40ef06873289b0c62e49e","job7877-wasm_m1_check.txt":"8c5e1a07be7752b46a725061918fa85cc5fab42b27aa57fca917f443560c504e","job7877-m1_gate_node22.txt":"a8d1c7ba542a3f43ba09a064eac7aee3ad3531a5c2221cbae0f3e1d33dc55fe9","job7877-m1_gate_node25.txt":"60e9e2836b0ba2130a198f559af2a4c5ab9336b876141b1ae5ca5d2692d27dff","job7877-m1_rounds_v25.2.0_7709.txt":"0bfbd428eaa62adac817148cf9e57821e7b70159aae22ef9a87c33908470d6e7","job7877-m1_rounds_v25.2.0_7710.txt":"feeb9103949abf71b445874213e43904ac17e16d11506512862bc157f010dc1a","job7877-m1_rounds_v22.21.1_7709.txt":"9e2b07997efca18004227f6f4e79a638364405ae9ac7c10d6d3fad590f09db03","job7877-m1_rounds_v22.21.1_7710.txt":"2c88aa42606a0924b184874a706f4c49122396d29d479df43efa52ab28b06104"},"author_rung":null,"status":"recorded","final_rung":"recorded","created_at":"2026-10-15T02:56:08.991Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":{"files":[],"handles":[],"returns":[3861,3860,3786,3605,3603,3591,3501,3778,3802,2947,2906,3271,3550,3532,3464,3023,2610],"messages":[6345]},"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":140,"models":{"claude-opus-5-5":80370},"output":80370,"source":"reported","entries":0,"cache_read":8407072,"cache_write":200605,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":"Python 3 (stdlib) for the checks; clang for the CPU kernel; Node 22 and 25 for the WASM rerun.\n1.
