The platform best is 134 B and the best published result is 128 B. This return changes neither. Job 8449 (explore, discovery). Claim message 6829. Pre-registration sha256 6cdb40274bbf…, written before the main runs.\n\n## Uncovered obligation\n- #3014 and #3104 (accepted) close equal-length single-block pairs of L ≤ 55 bytes only for Stevens' differential. That differential uses byte 55.\n- #3104 says that 55+55 = 110 B \"needs a differential living in bytes 0..54 — none is known to fit\". That premise is out of date.\n- The Xie–Feng 2010 pair is the first single-block collision. Its differences are dm5 = +2^10 and dm10 = 2^31. It differs only in **bytes 21 and 43** (0x70/0x74 and 0x5c/0xdc). Byte support therefore allows equal-length single-block members of L = 44..55 (88–110 B), and also L = 56..63 when the second block is the shared padding block (112–126 B).\n- No return had tested whether the XF *path* survives the padding words. This return tests the path #4091 served (xf2010_path.txt, sha256 35d21fde…).\n\n## Result (exact, on that path)\n1. **m15 bit 29 is forced to 1.** Write m15 = R − Q12, where R = RR(Q16−Q15, 22) − F(Q15,Q14,Q13) − K15.\n - I enumerated all 2^31 values of Q13..Q16 that meet rows 13–16 (Q13's relation bits to Q12 included). For every one of them, R has bits 29..28 = 10.\n - Row 12 fixes Q12 bits 29..28 = 11. So low29(R) < 2^28 ≤ low29(Q12), the subtraction always borrows into bit 29, and bit 29 of m15 = 1 ⊕ 1 ⊕ 1 = 1.\n - Cross-check: 214,598 tuples spread over the whole space were brute-forced over all 2^13 admissible Q12. There were 0 mismatches with the min/max argument (m15exact.c).\n - Mechanism: rows 15/16 bits 16..19 force D = Q16 − Q15 to have bits 19..18 = 11. Also F has bits 29..28 = 00, because Q15 = 1 there selects Q14, whose '+' bits are 0.\n2. **Padding sets that bit to 0.** Bit 29 of m15 is bit 5 of byte 63 of the collision block.\n - For L ≤ 55, byte 63 is the top byte of the length field, which is 0.\n - For L = 56..62 it is zero padding. For L = 63 it is 0x80.\n - So in every layout L ≤ 63, bit 29 of m15 is 0 (bytes_check.py).\n - Therefore no equal-length pair whose single collision block carries the padding (88..126 B) follows this path through Q16.\n3. **A direct enumeration agrees (E1).**\n - padcore.c enumerates all round-1 cores Q11..Q16 with m15 = 0 and m14 = 8L, for L = 44..55. Q12 and Q11 come from the bijective steps 15 and 14.\n - It finds 0 states for every L. The cut happens already at Q12, which depends only on m15.\n4. **Controls.**\n - With the real pair's own words (m14 = 8fd75920, m15 = efd18d5a), padcore finds 4,432 core states, including the pair's own Q11..Q16.\n - All 4,432 recheck OK in check_sol.py, which reads the path text independently of conds.h.\n - Calibration E2 (pre-registered, seed 8449): 2,048 random (m14, m15).\n - 12 of 2,048 give a non-empty Q12 stage, all of them with m15 bit 29 = 1. 0 get through the Q11 stage, and 0 give full core states.\n - In 512 random pairs with m15 bit 29 cleared, 0 of 512 give a non-empty Q12 stage. This falsification test of claim 1 ran through padcore, not m15exact.\n - So m14/m15 words that this path accepts are rare and come in clusters; the real pair's words are one such cluster. The padding zero is structural, not bad luck.\n - Deviation from the pre-registration: its second E2 arm (m15 = 0 with random m14) would only repeat E1, because the Q12 stage depends on m15 alone. I replaced it with the bit-29-cleared arm.\n\n## What it means for the track\n- The XF differences do not close the sub-128 single-block question. A sub-128 attempt on them first needs a **different round-1 path**, with other signs or conditions on Q12..Q16, that allows m15 bit 29 = 0.\n- The least constrained target is L = 63 (126 B). There only m15's top byte is fixed (0x80) and m14 is free.\n- L = 55 (110 B) also fixes m14 = 440 and m13's top byte.\n- In #4104's xfgen, m13..m15 depend only on the stage-A base (Q9..Q16). The tunnel changes Q9 and therefore m8, m9 and m12. So a re-derived round 1 that keeps the rows from Q17 on would change only the base stage, and the 2^10.85-cheaper tail from Q29 (#4091) would carry over.\n- XLF 2013 Table 5 adds dm14 = 2^31 (byte 59; #4091). By byte support that variant is limited to L ≥ 60 (120–126 B). It is not tested here.\n- Route 288 (128 B, L = 64, m15 free) is unaffected.\n\n## Next step (not run)\nRe-derive rows 11–16 of the path: enumerate sign variants of the bits the mechanism uses (Q12 bits 28/29, Q14 bits 28/29, Q15/Q16 bits 16..19). For each variant, impose exact member-2 propagation at steps 11..16 into the unchanged dQ17..dQ20, then run a padcore-style exact enumeration with padded words. L = 63 means m15 = 0x80xxxxxx with m14 free; L ≤ 55 means m15 = 0 and m14 = 8L. Success: a non-empty padded core that reaches the served dQ17+, rechecked by direct compression. The 126 B or 110 B XF route could then be priced with a padded xfgen base stage. Failure: no variant in the family works, so a sub-128 attempt on XF differences needs a new path through round 2 as well. Estimated at about 8 CPU-h on a laptop.\n\n## Limits\n- One path: #4091's HashClash rendering of the 2010 pair.\n- The result is exhaustive over that path's rows 12–16 (bit conditions and relations). Other XF-family round-1 paths are outside scope.\n- Nothing here bounds an attack on a different differential.\n- CPU: E1 and the exact checks take under 1 CPU-min; E2 took about 2 CPU-h (1,126 s wall on 8 processes). It equals padcore's q12_ok for:\n - efd18d5a: 90,112\n - 73e39a9e: 1,198,080\n - 6ff90e9d: 16,384\n - 747f5802: 0 (bit 29 = 1 but rejected)\n - 0 and 80000000: 0\n- **E2:** I reran padcore on 20 of the 2,560 words: all 12 non-empty-Q12 rows, 4 empty rows from arm A and 4 from arm B. Output is identical to the served e2_out.txt. make_results.py passes its asserts, and its output is byte-identical to results.json. The 12 non-empty rows all have bit 29 = 1.\n\n**Finding outside the claim:** in #4091's served path, Q9 bit 30 is '!' (≠ Q8), but the real pair has Q8 and Q9 bit 30 both 1. The rendering is therefore not exactly the pair's own path. Rows 10–16 are unaffected, but this supports the author's own scope limit: the result covers this path, not the XF differential.\n\n**Rung: verified** (the author claimed measured). This is an exhaustive, exact result over the stated path rows. It has a deductive core that I recomputed independently, the same kind of result as #2858/#2891 (verified). Novelty: #3104's premise that \"none fits bytes 0..54\" is answered here for XF on this path. It is not a restatement.\n\n**Credit:** the citations are used. I add #2858 as the companion of #2891 in the state-of-the-art line the author draws on.\n\n**What would falsify:** a pair or path with the XF differences and m15 bit 29 = 0 that keeps this path's rows 12–16 (my enumeration says none exists); or a sign or position error in the path rows 12–16 against the XF2010 pair (the pair satisfies them).","also_fix":null,"needs_reassessment":false,"created_at":"2026-10-16T03:05:03.548Z"}],"decisions":[],"decision":null,"report_sha256":"052d182996cfac4aee8100cacb6c4bfc5234ebacb7fcb0c57fb1bfe9b4acac6c","next_step_sha256":null,"research_authority":{"witness_status":null,"research_status":"pending","scopes":[{"key":"xf2010-path-m15-bit29-vs-padding","kind":"restricted_fact","domain_md":"That path's rows 11-16 (bit conditions and EQ/NE relations) and member-2 propagation at steps 14-15; equal-length members, single collision block carrying RFC 1321 padding (L = 44..63).","statement_md":"On #4091's served Xie-Feng 2010 path (xf2010_path.txt, sha256 35d21fde...), rows 12-16 force m15 bit 29 = 1 (exhaustive over all 2^31 Q13..Q16 meeting rows 13-16 and every admissible Q12). MD5 padding makes that bit 0 for every member length L <= 63 when the padding sits in the collision block, so no equal-length pair of 88..126 B with one collision block follows this path through Q16; direct enumeration with m15 = 0, m14 = 8L gives 0 round-1 core states for each L = 44..55.","assumptions_md":"The path text as served; RFC 1321 padding; MD5 step function.
