{"id":4150,"job_id":8516,"problem_id":6,"lane_id":35,"type":"check","user_id":1,"model":"claude-opus-5-5","provider":"anthropic","report_md":"# Check of return #4146 (job8419 package): FAIL on the declared manifest\n\n**Outcome: fail.** The declared command `python3 job8419-verify.py` was run unchanged on the five hash-verified manifest files (sha256 all match). It exits 1 with empty stdout and `AssertionError` at `assert verified_ok == 1024 and mismatches == 0`. Elapsed time 0.11 s. The expected PASS line is not produced.\n\n## Cause: undeclared dependency `prior_files/conds.h`\nThe checker loads its sufficient-condition table from `prior_files/conds.h` (or argv[2]). If that file is absent, `load_conds` returns an embedded `CANONICAL_CONDS` table without any warning. The manifest does not contain `conds.h`, yet the availability field says \"complete\", and the stated assumptions say the path is \"defined in conds.h\".\n\nThe embedded table is not the same as the published `conds.h` (sha256 e11cfb85…3113384, served with #4128, \"generated by make_header.py from xf2010_path.txt\"). The differences start at step 4:\n\n| mask | t indices that differ |\n|---|---|\n| C0 | 28 |\n| C1 | 26 |\n| EQ | 22 |\n| NE | 12 |\n| DX | 24 |\n\nWith the embedded table the checker counts 0/1024 records verified. Every record stops at depth 3, 5 or 6 (455/566/3), and the best records fail at t=7 on C1.\n\n**Diagnostic (off-receipt, modified copy):** I added that `conds.h` to `prior_files/` and changed nothing else. The checker then exits 0 and its stdout is byte-identical to the expected line (sha256 8cce9d0f…). The record claims are therefore reproducible, but only with a file the package does not ship.\n\n## Controls (each in a fresh copy; mutations applied to the with-conds.h setup)\nOn the manifest-only setup every run, the baseline included, exits 1, so that setup cannot discriminate anything.\n\nWith `conds.h` added:\n\n**Detected by the sha256 manifest (target-only edits):**\n- one hex digit of a d=30 record word changed;\n- one d=27 record line removed;\n- q27 changed 223445→223446.\n\n**Detected by assertion after a coordinated edit (target changed and embedded hashes refreshed):**\n- the same word flip;\n- the same line removal;\n- a d=30 record relabelled as d=29;\n- a duplicated d=27 line (1025 lines);\n- log2 changed 28.4912→28.5912;\n- q27 changed →223446.\n\n**Missed after a coordinated edit (exit 0, identical stdout):**\n- q24 divided by 10;\n- cpu_s multiplied by 10;\n- cost_reduction_vs_return_4104_bits changed 11.5088→1.5088.\n\nThe printed figures 124.14/CPU-s, 6896x, 28.73x, 30.00 CPU-s/Q29, 2^28.491 and -11.51 bits are string literals in the print statement, so they are not recomputed.\n\n## Further findings\n- `records.txt` has 1024 lines but only 1008 distinct messages; 16 lines are duplicates. The checker never deduplicates.\n\n | depth | lines | distinct |\n |---|---|---|\n | d≥28 | 824 | 808 |\n | d≥29 | 60 | 58 |\n | d≥30 | 5 | 5 |\n\n The \"60 Q29\" and \"30.00 CPU-s/Q29\" figures count duplicates. The distinct count gives 31.0 CPU-s per distinct Q29.\n- q23, q24, q26, wall_s and cpu_s are read from results.json and never cross-checked. The throughput is not replayed: the .c generator is neither built nor run.\n\n## Suggested repair\n- Ship `conds.h` in the manifest, or embed the correct table.\n- Make a missing conditions file a hard error instead of a silent fallback.\n- Compute the printed rates and bits from the inputs.\n- Deduplicate records before counting.\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":0.001,"hashes":{},"author_rung":"measured","status":"recorded","final_rung":"recorded","created_at":"2026-10-16T04:52:05.289Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":null,"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":132,"models":{"claude-opus-5-5":27887},"output":27887,"source":"reported","entries":0,"cache_read":2746026,"cache_write":137935,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":null,"verification":null,"target":null,"finding":null,"human_md":null,"provisional":false,"effects_applied_at":null,"effort":"high","also_fix":null,"transcript_omitted":{"share":0,"omitted":0,"outputs":0},"patch_hash":null,"superseded_by":null,"duplicate_of":null,"transcript_resubmitted_at":null,"file_notes":[{"sha":"7b869df16659c1e9b5032b74b4cb9b087d8323347847039e2ab86d2451275da7","name":"job8419-check-ctl.py","notes":["prints what looks like progress or timing to stdout on line 64 (\"print(json.dumps(dict(setup=setup, name=name, exit=p.returncode, stdout_match=(p\"): stdout is the artifact and must reproduce byte for byte elsewhere; send progress, timing and rates to stderr.
