{"id":4187,"job_id":8583,"problem_id":6,"lane_id":33,"type":"check","user_id":1,"model":"claude-opus-5-5","provider":"anthropic","report_md":"# Check of return #4185 (job 8583): rerun passes; checker coverage gaps\n\n**Outcome: pass.** I fetched the 23 manifest files by sha256 into a clean directory, and every hash verified. I ran the declared command `python3 job8561-verify.py` unchanged, from the package directory (the checker opens its inputs by relative path), as `python3 -I`. It exited 0 in 0.28 s with empty stderr. Its 211-byte stdout is byte-identical to the declared expected line (stdout sha256 8abfe4ba…810c).\n\n## What the checker really consumes\nIt reads the eight PTX files and the four AArch64 assembly files, checks each sha256 and byte length, and re-derives the hot-loop and kernel instruction counts from the text. It recomputes the GPU 5-round medians, peaks and ratios from the round arrays, and the D7/D8 dispersion and 16^-k z-scores from the batch arrays. It MD5-verifies every hit and every submission candidate. It compares a fixed set of fields against `results.json`. Corrupting any of these is caught, either by an assertion or by the exact-stdout rule.\n\n## Negative controls (21, each in its own fresh temporary copy)\n**Detected (10)**\n- Assertion, exit 1 (9): a submission md5 hex digit flipped; one PTX token changed (sha mismatch); `batch_n7_p1[100]` +1; best-arm round rate 52.3028→53.3028; last `batch_n8_all` element removed; D7 0.986039→0.996039; N1 k4 hot_insts 1591→1590; a duplicated hot-loop `add.s32` with bytes and sha refreshed (hot total 731); a duplicated N1 `eor` with sha refreshed (2351≠2352).\n- Exact stdout only, exit 0 (1): last submission removed (prints `submissions=15`).\n\n**Missed (11, exit 0, stdout identical)**\n- Removing records: one score-9 hit removed; one score-10 hit removed; one `sample_hits_eq8` entry removed; the N1 `kern_simd32_esfex` baseline row removed.\n- Altering claimed values: N1 nvtd24 speedup 1.2654→1.3654 (only ≥1.25 is checked); V1 nvtd32 speedup →1.5 (V1/M1 speedups are not checked); submission id 6510→999999; status verified→rejected.\n- Consistent rewrites: N1 simd32_esfex mca cycles ×0.8; lut256_esfex rates +1.5 GH/s with stats kept consistent; GPU `cum_counts[10]` +4 with the null row recomputed.\n\n## Independent recomputation (off-receipt, own script)\n- **Speedups:** every speedup equals its cycles-per-candidate ratio (0 mismatches). The best arm against simd32_esfex is N1 1.2654, N2 1.2111, V1 1.0892 and M1 1.0831, as claimed.\n- **GPU:** median 52.3028 against the esfex median 49.6949 gives 1.0525. The claimed 1.0527 is `median_ratio_vs_esfex`, the median of per-round ratios against the esfex mean (1.05266). Both readings round as stated in their own definitions. Peak is 52.6666 and wins are 5/5.\n- **Dispersion and z-scores:** max|z| for k=7..12 is 1.4195 (claim ≤1.42).\n- **Hits and submissions:** hit counts (≥9/≥10/≥11 = 211/16/1) agree across `cum_counts`, the hit list and the verification block. The 16 submissions are exactly the score-≥10 hits.\n- **Server records:** I fetched all 16 from the server (#6505-#6520). Each has the same candidate, digest, score and challenge, handle moreisee, is verified, and is not a duplicate.\n\n## Limits\nGPU throughputs (RTX 4070 SUPER) and llvm-mca-21 cycle counts are producer-reported. This host has no GPU, no CUDA and no llvm-mca, so I checked them only for internal consistency, not replayed them. The checker does not read the generator sources it lists as targets (`gpu_bench.py`, `aarch64_study.py`, `aarch64_kernels.c`, `selfmatch_nvtd_zmm.c`, `search.py`, `prereg.md`); it consumes only their outputs. The 1.47e13 campaign size is a transcribed total. Suggested checker fixes:\n- tie the hit list to `cum_counts`, the verification counts and the submissions;\n- recompute every speedup from cycles, including V1 and M1;\n- check that baseline rows exist;\n- hash the generator sources.\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":0.001,"hashes":{},"author_rung":"measured","status":"recorded","final_rung":"recorded","created_at":"2026-10-16T09:31:12.331Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":null,"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":108,"models":{"claude-opus-5-5":32392},"output":32392,"source":"reported","entries":0,"cache_read":2295700,"cache_write":153850,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":null,"verification":null,"target":null,"finding":null,"human_md":null,"provisional":false,"effects_applied_at":null,"effort":"high","also_fix":null,"transcript_omitted":{"share":0,"omitted":0,"outputs":0},"patch_hash":null,"superseded_by":null,"duplicate_of":null,"transcript_resubmitted_at":null,"file_notes":[{"sha":"0e03af66d069875956f75c02260031c3e07b6c7e6ab6a6ac89592d3c64d2c3ce","name":"check8583-ctl.py","notes":["prints what looks like progress or timing to stdout on line 114 (\"print(json.dumps(dict(name=name, exit=p.returncode, stdout_match=(p.stdout == EX\"): stdout is the artifact and must reproduce byte for byte elsewhere; send progress, timing and rates to stderr.
