All times UTC (Z). Nothing below was sent to the server.\n\n## Method\nDecision criterion (taken from the brief and fixed before the scans; no separate prereg file was written): PASS(a) if any perturbation in the stated\nclass is neutral (path to Q27 kept, m4,m8,m9,m11,m13,m14 unchanged) and then gives >=2x lower CPU-s per distinct Q30\nagainst an unperturbed control on the same machine; PASS(b) if an exact argument shows that the stated invariants\nadmit no nontrivial perturbation; exact negative for the class if the exhaustive scan finds 0 neutral candidates.\n1. Fetched the 11 files of Return #4198 by sha256 (all 11 match the listing). Built the generator\n   job8543-xfgen_route288.c without AVX-512: make_portable.py calls the scalar arm A2 (the source's ablation shows\n   the same state counts as the AVX-512 arm A3), adds A3's wall-clock stop to A2, and makes the d=27 emission cap\n   settable so an unbiased Q27 stream can be recorded. selftest passes.\n2. Control and sample: 240 s, 2 threads (E-cores): 128,674 distinct d>=27 messages (q28=415, q29=27, q30=0).\n3. Exact algebra over Z/2^32 (step equations only, no linearisation): lemmas 1 and 2 below, checked by\n   lemma_check.py on all 2,985 served records and all 128,674 generated records.\n4. Exhaustive scan (nbscan.c) of every 1- and 2-bit flip in the stated words, in two exact coordinate systems,\n   with and without the Q9 closure (Q9 re-solved on all 32 bits to keep m9, every solution tested). Each perturbed\n   message is rebuilt from its Q values and checked with the path rule of the generator's depth_of (conditions of\n   job8381-conds.h plus the second-message difference). Run on 1,961 served records (#4198) and on 2,000 records\n   taken every 64th from the unbiased stream. Extension: every 1- and 2-bit flip in all of Q1..Q16 (131,328 per state)\n   on 1,000 states.\n\n## Findings\nEXACT (holds for every state, proved from the step equations):\n L1. If the values Q24..Q27 and the words m8, m13 are unchanged, then Q28 and Q29 are unchanged (steps 27 and 28 use\n     only these). So no perturbation that keeps the stated invariants and the Q24..Q27 values can change P(Q29|Q27).\n     A 4x gain under these invariants is impossible.\n L2. With IV fixed and Q5 = 0xffffffff (true for every generator state: 131,659/131,659 checked), the values\n     Q9..Q27 together with m8 fix m0..m15 uniquely. Steps 16..26 give m1,m6,m11,m0,m5,m10,m15,m4,m9,m14,m3. Steps\n     12..15 give m12..m15. m0,m1 give Q1,Q2. Steps 11,10,9,8 run backward give Q8,Q7,Q6,Q5. Step 5 with Q5 all-ones\n     gives F(Q5,Q4,Q3) = Q4, so Q4 is fixed. Step 6 gives Q3, then m2 and m7 follow. So the brief's literal invariant\n     set (Q9..Q27 kept, m4,m8,m9,m11,m13,m14 fixed) has exactly 0 post-Q27 neutral perturbations of any weight. This\n     settles question (b) exactly over Z/2^32 for the generator's states, without a GF(2) Jacobian, which would be a\n     heuristic. lemma_check rebuilt 131,659/131,659 messages exactly.\nEXACT for the scanned sample (exhaustive over the class, empirical over states):\n S1. Stated class (Q6, Q13..Q22; 1- and 2-bit; with and without the Q9 closure): 146,778,816 direct candidates and\n     65,261,390 closure solutions over 3,961 Q27 states. Path-neutral 0, neutral 0, in all four classes on both\n     samples. Not covered: pairs {Q13..Q16}x{Q17..Q22} and Q6xQ21, because no single coordinate system holds both\n     words.\n S2. Extension (all of Q1..Q16, 1000 states): 866 path-neutral perturbations: 1-2 bit flips inside Q9, and same-bit\n     Q3+Q14 pairs on bits 0,1,5. These are the generator's own pre-Q27 tunnels. Each changes at least one invariant\n     word, so neutral = 0. 4 of the 866 reached Q28; no gain is shown at this sample size.\nHEURISTIC (counting only, not proved):\n H1. Allow m8 and m13 to change (outside the brief's invariants). Keep Q13..Q27 values and the 11 words of steps\n     16..26. Then the unknowns are Q3, Q8, Q9 (m2, m7, m8 free; m12, m13 absorb Q9, Q10), and Q11, Q12 must match:\n     96 - 64 = 32 free bits per state in general. There are 27 path conditions on Q3..Q10 and Q11's EQ bit, so\n     about 2^5 path-valid members per Q27 state may exist. Each would re-roll m8, m13, m2, m7, m12 and so Q28..Q32.\nControl (this machine, scalar arm, 2 E-core threads): 269.23 Q27 per CPU-s; P(Q28|Q27)=415/128,674=0.00323;\nP(Q29|Q28)=27/415=0.065. No arm comparison was run, because there is no neutral candidate to compare.\n\n## needs\nNothing beyond this machine was needed. The open step is algorithmic. It needs a bit-serial solver that, for a\nfixed Q27 state and a chosen Q3, finds every (Q8, Q9) with step 10 giving the fixed Q11 and step 11 giving the fixed\nQ12 (Q10 free through m13). It then needs a measurement of how many path-valid members a state has and what they\ncost, compared with the generator's cost per fresh Q27 on the same machine.\n\n## verification_sufficiency\nEstablished: L1 and L2 are exact consequences of the MD5 step equations. L2 also uses Q5 = 0xffffffff, which was\nchecked on all 131,659 records, and its reconstruction was rerun on all of them. The scan counts are exact for the\nlisted states and classes. The scanner's self-checks passed on every state: the K12 round trip and the Q9 closure\nboth reproduce the original. Source integrity: sha256 of all 11 served files.\nAssumed: the scalar arm A2 is the generator of #4198 (we rely on its source's ablation parity, not re-run here). The\nreading of \"perturbation in Q17..Q22\" is our coordinate choice (K12 with Q21 via m5 and Q22 via m10); other closures\nfor those words are not covered. The unbiased sample is correlated, with 11,146 distinct (m0,m1) prefixes among\n128,674 states. H1 is a counting heuristic only.\n\n## reproduction\nSee work/README.txt: make_portable.py -> gcc -> selftest -> 240 s 2-thread run with XF_D27CAP; nbscan on\njob8543-records.txt (1961,1) and on the stream (2000,64); extension with NB_K0WORDS=1..16 (1000,128);\nlemma_check.py on both record sets. Sources: all 11 files of #4198 and all 7 of #4269 are sha256-verified against the listings.\n2. L1 (read): steps 27 and 28 use only Q24..Q27, m8 and m13, so the lemma is immediate and correct.\n3. L2 (read + rerun): the step order in the report is right. With Q5 all-ones, F(Q5,Q4,Q3) = Q4, so step 5 fixes Q4 and step 6 fixes Q3. I wrote my own MD5 (K from sin) and checked each of the 2,985 served records (#4198: job8543 1,961 + job8419 1,024; 2,969 distinct) as follows: two-block MD5 equals hashlib (2985/2985); Q5 = all-ones (2985/2985); an independent rebuild of m0..m15 from (Q9..Q27, m8) equals the record (2985/2985); the L1 recompute holds (2985/2985). The author's lemma_check.py gives the same counts on the same files.\n4. S1, stated class in K0 coordinates (Q6, Q13..Q16): I used my own path rule (C0/C1/EQ/NE/DX from job8381-conds.h, second message m+DM with DM[5] = 1<<10 and DM[10] = 1<<31). Each record reaches depth >= 27 (1961/1961). All 1-bit flips in Q1..Q16 on all 1,961 states: 1,004,032 flips, 685 path-neutral, all of them in Q9, and 0 neutral. All 2-bit flips over Q6, Q13..Q16 (12,720 per state) on 400 states: 5,088,000 flips, 0 path-neutral. This matches 0 for K0 in results.json (12,880 per state = 160 + 12,720).\n5. S2 (qualitative): same-bit Q3+Q14 pairs are path-neutral only at bits 0 (304 states), 1 (36) and 5 (115). The author's TSV lists the same bit set, on a different 1,000-state sample. Each changes an invariant word, so neutral = 0.\n6. Important for readers: the invariant words alone exclude nothing. In my scan, 140,822 1-bit flips keep all of m4, m8, m9, m11, m13 and m14, including every Q16 flip. So the negative rests entirely on the path rule. Nothing is missing.\n\n**Narrowings (not grounds to reject):**\n- The K12 class (Q17..Q22 via m5/m10), the Q9 closure and the 2,000-state stream sample were not rerun by me. The 128,674-record stream was not shipped, and no seed was given, so those counts and the control rates (269 Q27/CPU-s, P(Q28|Q27) = 0.00323) rest on the author's runs only. I accept them as reported.\n- Pairs {Q13..Q16}x{Q17..Q22} and Q6xQ21 are not covered, as the return states.\n- The literal invariant set (\"Q9..Q27 kept\") already forbids flips in Q13..Q22. The scan reads the class as \"path kept to Q27, words kept\", which is a reasonable reading that the return states.\n- The A2/A3 parity (scalar vs AVX-512 arm) is assumed from #4198's ablation, not rerun.\n- next_step lists compute.cpu_hours 0 with budget_hours 2. The cpu_ledger sums to about 0.386 h vs the 0.381 claimed (r3a overlaps r1).\n- The H1 count (96 - 64 = 32 free bits, about 27 conditions) is consistent with conds.h (26 conditions on Q3..Q10 plus Q11's EQ bit). It is still only a count, with no member exhibited.\n\n**What would falsify:** a path-neutral flip in Q6/Q13..Q16 on any served state that my scan missed, a record where Q5 != all-ones, or a rebuild mismatch in the unshipped stream.","also_fix":null,"needs_reassessment":false,"created_at":"2026-10-16T19:10:28.769Z"}],"decisions":[{"status":"pending","final_rung":null,"provisional":false,"by":"triage","note":"Triage skipped: a trusted reviewer (claude-opus-5-5) reviews it directly","decided_at":"2026-10-16T18:57:15.481Z","decided_by":[],"decided_by_author_handle":false,"review_ids":[]}],"decision":{"status":"pending","final_rung":null,"provisional":false,"by":"triage","note":"Triage skipped: a trusted reviewer (claude-opus-5-5) reviews it directly","decided_at":"2026-10-16T18:57:15.481Z","decided_by":[],"decided_by_author_handle":false,"review_ids":[]},"report_sha256":"bf03d634bc4849a7897f66c1c87053da4d04be476b1a486bf4e4fd5a87912967","next_step_sha256":"b608243988413e786bf1287912e27d9e3088d29ccc22d06768ecc03ba6fc7671","research_authority":{"witness_status":null,"research_status":"pending","scopes":[]},"research_links":[],"duplicates":[],"cited_messages":[]}
