Alternative tested here (#4269's heuristic H1): keep Q11..Q27 and every word except m2, m7, m8, m12 and\nm13, and vary Q3..Q10.\n- Steps 0 and 1 fix Q1 and Q2.\n- Steps 3..6 (m3..m6 kept) give Q3 -> Q4 -> Q5 -> Q6 -> Q7 (\"chain A\").\n- Steps 11 and 10 (m11, m10, Q11, Q12 kept) give Q8, then Q7, backward from (Q9, Q10) (\"chain B\").\n- Step 9 (m9 kept) must close.\n- m7 and m8 absorb steps 7 and 8. m12 and m13 are reset so that Q13 and Q14 are kept; Q10 is free through m13.\nSteps 12..26 then reproduce Q13..Q27 exactly. A member therefore re-rolls m8 and m13 (Q28, Q29) and m2, m7, m12 (Q30..Q32).\nThis avoids L1 and L2 by construction.\nfamscan.c is a meet-in-the-middle, exact over a stated sub-family:\n- Q10 = path-forced bits | E, where E is any subset of Q10's 22 free bits with |E| <= 9 (26% of Q10 values).\n- For each such Q10 it lists every assignment of the Q9 bits that steps 10 and 11 see, and keeps the resulting\n (Q8, Q7) when the Q8, Q9-NE and Q7 conditions hold (targets).\n- It runs all 2^32 Q3 values through chain A with the Q4..Q7 conditions and looks each Q7 up among the targets.\n- For each hit it finds all Q9 that solve step 9 (32-bit exact) and matches them to the target's Q9 bits.\n- It verifies every candidate with the generator's depth_of rule (conditions of job8381-conds.h and the\n second-message difference), requiring depth >= 27.\nSanity check: each state's own message is found as a member, at E = 0.\nStates: the unbiased stream of #4269, state k = line 643k.\nControl: the #4198 generator (scalar arm), 6 threads, 30 s, on this machine.\n\n## Findings\nEXACT (counts, each member verified):\n- The family is not empty, and its members are path-valid to Q27.\n- 1,864 distinct fresh members on 34 of the 37 states scanned (median 46 per state with members, max 325).\n- Every member changes exactly m2, m7, m8, m12 and m13.\n- They differ from the original in about 100 of the 256 bits of Q3..Q10, so this is not a local tunnel.\n- Complete per-state runs (states 0..2, one thread each): 0, 218 and 3 fresh members, at 6.6, 326.2 and 7.1 CPU-s.\n Cost tracks the state's target count: 2.8e5, 2.1e8 and about 3e5 targets.\n- 11 of the 1,864 reach Q28: P = 0.0059 (Wilson 95% [0.0033, 0.0106]). Control: 137/45,625 = 0.0030\n [0.0025, 0.0036]. The ranges overlap, so there is no shown change in P(Q28).\nMEASURED COST (this machine):\n- 8,023.5 CPU-s (runs A and B) for 1,864 members: 4.30 CPU-s per member and 729 CPU-s per distinct Q28.\n- Control: 0.00394 CPU-s per Q27, 1.31 CPU-s per Q28, 12.0 CPU-s per Q29.\n- So the family costs about 1,090x more per Q27-equivalent and about 555x more per Q28.\n- Even the best complete state (1.50 CPU-s per member) is about 380x worse.\n- Success criterion: the \">= 1 member on >= 10% of states\" part is met on the states scanned (34/37), not on 200.\n The \">= 2x cheaper per distinct Q28\" part fails by about 2.7 orders of magnitude. The cost per Q29 under job\n 8805's normalisation is therefore not reported.\nHEURISTIC (estimate, not measured):\n- With an ideal step-9 solver, the costs left in the best state are building the targets (about 29 CPU-s) and the\n 2^32 chain-A scan (about 4 CPU-s). That is about 0.15 CPU-s per member, still about 40x the control.\n- Sharing that work across states does not help in the generator's stream. 128,674 states fall into 88,103\n contexts (the shared chain A and target list), with a size-weighted mean of 2.09 states per context.\n- Members found per Q10 value (summed over the states) fall with |E|: 8.2e-3 at |E|=4 (60/7,315) and 1.1e-3 at\n |E|=9 (538/497,420). The full family is therefore likely only a few times larger than the part enumerated.\n\n## needs\nNothing this machine lacks. A cheaper search would need a different algorithm. It would have to find members\nwithout the per-state 2^32 chain-A scan and the target list, for example by solving chain A backward from Q7 bit by\nbit, at a cost close to per member. No such method is known to us. With the method used here the gap to the\ngenerator is measured at about 400-1,100x, and the estimated floor is about 40x.\n\n## verification_sufficiency\nEstablished:\n- Every member is checked from scratch with the depth_of rule, and its changed-word set is exactly {2,7,8,12,13}.\n- Counts are exact for the enumerated sub-family on the states completed.\n- Run B gives complete per-state timings, and all CPU figures come from /usr/bin/time.\n- The control was run on the same machine.\nAssumed or limited:\n- Run A was stopped at the CPU budget (2.5 CPU-h), so 37 states were touched rather than 200. Per-state completion\n in run A was not recorded, so its per-state counts are lower bounds.\n- The cost ratio is measured for this implementation. The about-40x floor and the full-family size are estimates.\n- The control used 6 threads on mixed cores (P-core hyperthreads and E-cores), while the family runs used P-core\n and E-core threads too. Rates are this-machine only.\n\nFiles are uploaded with the prefix `job8810-` (work/x as `job8810-x`).\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":2.284,"hashes":{"job8810-famscan.c":"f579aeff30d102b6d396f672e398a4178edad81e79e6f71bfcb40614131e9858","job8810-README.txt":"3b7449ccf3d19651781659f3ab1c75624890111456269d5d97c147e12a173163","job8810-results.json":"237397d26f7e160a9f1914bffbf13fa18d7bd59ae2ddd28ef63a3838dbdf4aab","job8810-cpu_ledger.jsonl":"8c0c7c7ca5ba03b1534002613cbe258e5f0585ec58a9168aade76d931b89315f","job8810-context_groups.py":"4df798c6026e9bf5e69f7604df8bce9a8df9a3b4f6fd12fa22c126cb9e024142","job8810-analyze_members.py":"e12d69833558b0675ddb4d1a17f7547feb8db474a70a1f5fd222ded794153eb3","job8810-members_runA_kmax9.txt":"682aaa9d25a73304488693d79017c2d4560c7b2e24283f627e47588937118782","job8810-members_runB_kmax9.txt":"d8f5edbf98b73e11d6283d581ad241a24973474363d6bdc5f9279958dab163a2"},"author_rung":"measured","status":"recorded","final_rung":"recorded","created_at":"2026-10-16T17:58:55.040Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":{"files":[],"handles":[],"returns":[4269,4198,4104],"messages":[]},"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":92,"models":{"claude-opus-5-5":23527},"output":23527,"source":"reported","entries":0,"cache_read":8467184,"cache_write":468468,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":"Fetch #4198's 11 files and #4269's files by sha256 into an empty directory; gcc and python3 only.
