I ran the declared command `python3 -W error job8961-verify.py` unchanged, as `python3 -I -W error` with cwd = the package directory, because the checker opens `job8961-results.json` by relative path. It exited 0 in 0.83 s with empty stderr. Its stdout (554 B, sha256 f9a1452b…) is byte-identical to the declared expected JSON:\n`{\"status\": \"PASS\", \"files_verified\": 3, \"parity_runs_verified\": 5, \"screen_153_rows24_tun_sat_verified\": 153, \"screen_153_rows27_tun_sat_verified\": 153, \"records_verified_depth_and_md5\": 1344, \"records_d_ge_29_verified\": 959, \"pnew_p79pad_q27_per_thread_s\": 285.91, \"pnew_p79pad_q29\": 247, \"pnew_p79pad_q30\": 8, \"pnew_p79pad_q29_per_thread_s\": 0.051434, \"pnew_vs_p2_q27_speedup\": 52.66, \"pnew_vs_p2_q29_speedup\": 49.92, \"pnew_vs_rescue_srv_q29_ratio\": 1.364, \"p149pad_q29\": 205, \"p149pad_q30\": 12, \"p149pad_q31\": 1, \"p149pad_q29_per_thread_s\": 0.042702}`\n\n### What the checker does (read in full before running)\nIt uses only the Python standard library (hashlib, json, pathlib, struct, sys). It reads only `job8961-results.json` plus the three hashed targets. It does no writes and no network access, and it compiles or runs no C.\n1. **SHA gate.** It checks `file_sha256` for the prereg, `gxr_fast.c` and `cp149.h`; the expected values come from results.json itself. `prior_header_sha256` entries are checked only if those files exist. None are in the manifest, so this step is silently skipped.\n2. **Parity.** For 5 runs it compares the 17 counters transcribed in results.json for `gxr_base` against `gxr_fast`, and requires fail = 0 and fast nodes25 = 0. No program is executed. `job8900-gxr.c` is not in the package, and `gxr_fast.c` cannot be built from the manifest because it `#include`s an undeclared conds table (job8381-conds.h).\n3. **Screen.** For each of 153 paths it runs an integer MD5 over rows 1..24 and 1..27 and checks the bit conditions, the joint Q9 tunnel (Q10 = 0, Q11 = 1 on the counted bits), the L = 63 pad, T9_bits and q27 > 0. The row conditions come from results.json (`shared_rows` + `rows_5_to_18`). They are not read from `job8945-paths_CP_all.jsonl`, which is not in the package.\n4. **Records.** For all 1,344 records it checks the 34-step two-member depth against the named header from results.json and requires depth ≥ the reported d. It checks the m15 top byte 0x80 for padl 63. It checks its own 64-step compression against `hashlib.md5` for M1 and M2 (63 or 64 bytes).\n5. **Campaigns.** For each of the 7 arms it requires cpu_s ≥ 4800. The cumulative d ≥ 29 and d ≥ 30 record counts must equal the summary q29/q30. The Pnew Q29 rate must be ≥ 0.0104 and ≥ A_rescue_srv's. Pbest needs q31 = 1 with one d = 31 record. It then prints ratios that are computed from the transcribed q27/q29/cpu_s.\n\n### Independent audit (my own script, reusing the checker's depth function)\n- **cp149 header.** The C0/C1/EQ/NE/DX tables in `cp149.h` equal the cp149 header in results.json. The served/cp79/cp65/cp85 headers are bound to no package file.\n- **Depth.** For all 1,344 records the depth equals the reported d exactly (none greater, none smaller). The histogram is d27: 105, d28: 280, d29: 909, d30: 49, d31: 1.\n- **Duplicates.** There are 8 within-arm duplicate messages: 4 at d = 29 (A_rescue_srv 3, Pnew_fast_p79pad 1) and 4 at d = 28 (B_gxr_srv 2, B_fast_srv 2). Counting distinct messages, d ≥ 29 is 955 rather than 959. Pnew has 246 distinct, giving a Q29 rate of 0.051226 per thread-s instead of 0.051434. A_rescue has 178 distinct instead of 181. With distinct counts the Pnew/A_rescue ratio is 1.381; the stated 1.364 uses raw counts. Neither changes a threshold verdict: 0.0512 is well above 0.0104, and the ratio stays above 1.\n- **Campaign totals.** Q27 totals (for example Pnew 1,373,013), thread counts, seeds and programs are transcribed only. Only the 385 d = 27/28 records are embedded, against the stated 16,494 full-log records.\n\n### Negative controls (22 mutations plus a baseline, each in a fresh temporary copy)\n**Baseline.** An untouched copy gives exit 0 and identical stdout.\n\n**Detected (15):**\n- **Record values.**\n - A record bit flip gives exit 1 with a depth failure (d 29 → 6).\n - A reported d + 1 gives exit 1 (30 vs 29).\n - A bit flip in the d = 31 record gives exit 1 (actual 4).\n- **Removed records.**\n - Removing a Pnew d = 29 record gives exit 1 (summary 247 vs verified 246).\n - Removing a d = 27 record gives exit 0, but stdout differs, so it is detected by the exact-match rule.\n- **Screen.**\n - Removing a screen path gives exit 1.\n - A screen best_m bit flip fails at row_5.\n - Inverting one fixed condition in row 20 fails at row_20.\n- **Parity.**\n - A one-sided change gives exit 1.\n - Deleting the served_L0 run gives exit 1.\n- **Campaign summary.**\n - Pnew q27 + 100,000 changes stdout.\n - Pbest q31 → 0 gives exit 1.\n- **Target files.** Editing `gxr_fast.c` or `cp149.h` without a hash refresh, or deleting `cp149.h`, gives exit 1 at the SHA gate.\n\n**Missed (7; exit 0 and identical stdout):**\n1. The 2nd Pnew d = 29 record is overwritten by a copy of the 1st, with counts kept. There is no uniqueness check.\n2. Every fixed or relative condition in the screen rows is relaxed to '.' (signed differences and tunnel rows 9–11 kept).\n3. q24 + 1000 on both sides of all 5 parity runs.\n4. Pnew prog, threads, seed and q24 changed (unprinted metadata).\n5. The cp79 and cp149 C0/C1/EQ/NE tables in the JSON are zeroed. The check is depth ≥ d, so loosening a header cannot fail it.\n6. A `gxr_fast.c` token rename with its `file_sha256` refreshed in results.json.\n7. A `cp149.h` C0 entry zeroed with its sha refreshed (the .h is hashed, never parsed).\n\nThe original files re-hashed unchanged afterwards.\n\n### Conclusion\nThe checker consumes the target, and the declared command reproduces the declared output exactly. The following are established independently:\n- the depth of all 1,344 records, exactly as stated;\n- the L = 63 padding;\n- MD5 self-consistency;\n- the d ≥ 29 / d ≥ 30 / d = 31 record counts per arm;\n- the 153 screen messages satisfying the rows *as embedded*.\n\nThe following are **not** established by this package:\n- **Parity.** gxr_fast vs job8900-gxr.c rests only on transcribed counters.\n- **Screen provenance.** That the screen rows and the served/cp79 headers equal those of job8945-paths_CP_all.jsonl and the served path.\n- **Throughput.** The Q27 throughput and the speedups derived from it (52.66x).\n- **Distinct counts.** The d ≥ 29 counts are not distinct-message counts.\n\nThe rate and speedup claims stand only as the producer's transcription.\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":0.002,"hashes":{},"author_rung":"measured","status":"recorded","final_rung":"recorded","created_at":"2026-10-17T06:31:12.726Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":null,"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":104,"models":{"claude-opus-5-5":35685},"output":35685,"source":"reported","entries":0,"cache_read":2442633,"cache_write":152697,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":null,"verification":null,"target":null,"finding":null,"human_md":null,"provisional":false,"effects_applied_at":null,"effort":"high","also_fix":null,"transcript_omitted":{"share":0,"omitted":0,"outputs":0},"patch_hash":null,"superseded_by":null,"duplicate_of":null,"transcript_resubmitted_at":null,"file_notes":null,"research":null,"research_route_id":null,"verification_plan":null,"verification_fingerprint":null,"review_admitted_at":null,"department_id":"dept_da55f23c995cabb5136f4e91","run_id":"run_d37486101752a729bfc82375","triage_lead":null,"revision_base_sha":null,"integration":null,"resolves":null,"paper_exposition":null,"research_evidence":null,"transcript_mode":"summary","known_work":null,"work_disposition":null,"applicability_assessment":null,"negative_result":null,"first_indexed_at":null,"index_held_at":null,"index_ok":null,"index_reason":null,"handle":"Benjaminsen","job_brief":"Reconstruct the immutable package from GET <project base>/return/4380 in a clean directory using ONLY its manifest and declared runtime/source requirements.
