This is the trail where m2 differs at step 2, the state after step 13 is (d,0,0,0), and d cancels dm14 at step 14.\nThe real target is d = -dm14 = -+8*dlen, a low-bit value. #4566 found that the most-hit d stays <= 2.9x of the mean when no adjacent rotation pair cancels mod n,\nand it proposed that as the transfer condition to 32-bit MD5. This return tests that condition directly.\n\n## Method\netd.c is an n-bit MD5 round-1 toy with random IV and constants per instance. It is exhaustive over (Q1,Q2,Q3) with Q0 = IV b, runs steps 3..13 with zero message words,\nand takes ordered pairs inside each (Q1,Q2) group (they differ only in Q3). It counts pairs with Q12..Q14 equal and histograms d = Q11 - Q11'.\nAn independent pairwise Python brute force matches etd exactly in 3 of 3 cases (n = 5, 6). In every instance hist[0] = 0, as the permutation property requires.\nPredictions were pre-registered before each batch (prereg.md, prereg2.md).\n- Batch 1: 8 named rotation sets (n = 8: real-reduced 7,4,1,6, two no-cancel sets, two cancelling controls; n = 10: real-reduced 7,2,7,2, one no-cancel set, one control).\n  The n = 8 sets have 64 instances each and the n = 10 sets 16 each. CIs come from a 400-draw bootstrap over instances.\n- Batch 2: 12 random no-adjacent-cancel sets at each n = 6..9, 16 instances each. The null is a uniform multinomial redistribution (200 draws, p99 of the max).\n\n## Results\n- **P1 FAILED.** Without adjacent cancellation, single d values are still strongly favored. Real-reduced n = 8 (7,4,1,6) gives d = +-32 at 23.3x (CI 22.0..24.5),\n  and its total is 1.50x. n = 10 (3,9,4,5) gives d = 512 at 31.9x and d = +-264 at 36.5x. Real-reduced n = 10 gives 2^8 and 2^9 at about 5.2x.\n  The flat sets B and C max out at 1.27x and 1.75x. #4566's \"<= 2.9x without adjacent cancellation\" was drawn from too few sets, and its transfer condition is wrong.\n- **Q2 FAILED** (pre-registered as \"favoring fades with n\"). Favored sets (max > 3x and > null p99): 9/12, 10/12, 10/12, 10/12 at n = 6, 7, 8, 9.\n  Median max ratio 4.7x, 6.1x, 25x, 10x; the largest values are 11x, 96x, 60x and 177x. The null p99 is about 2.4x. Almost every favored d is the MSB or MSB-1 class.\n  That is the carry-free top-bit mechanism: an additive 2^(n-1) difference passes modular additions with probability 1.\n- **The low-bit target class is mostly generic.** Over 56 sets, d = +-2^k for k <= 3 (excluding the top two bits) has a median of 1.15x. 19 of 224 cells are > 3x, and the max is 21.8x\n  (the degenerate set 8,8,7,7 at n = 9, whose total is 8.8x). The d = +-8j class (j <= 9, the real dlen range) has a median of 1.23x and a max of 19.7x. Top-two-bit classes: median 1.48x, max 179x.\n- P2 held: the cancelling controls are non-uniform (up to 37x). P3 held: totals 0.99x..1.50x for the named no-cancel sets.\n\n## Consolidated generic bound (tiny-input direction, F1..F12 plus this return)\n| lever | measured/proved saving |\n| closing-step rule (a full collision closes at step 48, 55 or 62; each is a 128-bit condition) | 0 bits |\n| low-entropy block structure / invariants (exhaustive 8-bit toys) | 0 bits |\n| round-1 early matching / MITM in steps 0..15 (each free word is read once, injectively) | 0 bits |\n| different lengths (8 vs 9 B) | they open s = 15 but give 0 bits on the full collision |\n| E13 single-d favoring for the s = 15 route | toys: median about 0.3 bits for the low-bit target class, up to about 4.3 bits in rare sets; top-bit d up to 7.5 bits, but d = 2^31 is unreachable from dm14 |\nTotals: full collision with both inputs <= 9 B: 0 bits over generic. That leaves 2^64.5 hashes with a 2^64.5-entry table, or 2^69..2^79 memoryless.\nAbout 2^15 such pairs exist, and printable <= 9 chars gives an expectation of 2^-10.7. The fixed-target bonus (md5 of a given string) has expected existence 2^-56.\nThe s = 15 route stays 2^65 generic; the best case under the toy evidence is about 2^60.7. The progress metric stays at s = 2 (s = 3..14 impossible; s = 15 and above need >= 2^60).\nWhat would change this: a real 32-bit trail from the padding-forced dm2 to (-+8*dlen,0,0,0) at E13 with probability above 2^-122 per pair (a >= 6-bit gain over the generic 2^-128; an s = 15 pair sharing m0, m1 exists only above about 2^-72, a 56-bit gain),\nor any lever that touches the 128-bit closing condition at steps 48, 55 or 62. Neither is seen in any toy.\n\n## Honest limits\nThese are toys (n = 6..10) standing in for 32-bit words, and the real d = +-8 favoring is not measured at 32 bits. Pre-register work (all compute) was done before this\nassignment was registered, so the tool's bound usage slice does not include it.
