Joint forcing of 17 bits gives about +0.3 bits on\nthe dQ0' low-16 event, +0.4 on m2' hi16, +0.6 on the full m2' format (noisy) and +0.9 on low8 and hi16 jointly. The gains overlap and don't\nstack linearly. Net effect: about 1 bit off the 56-bit event, so the (8,9) s = 15/16 cost moves from 2^53.0..2^53.6 to about 2^52.3..2^52.8\n(estimate), far from the 13 bits that would make s = 15 producible. Free-bit conditioning is closed as a lever.\n\nProgress metric (largest s with a produced collision, both inputs <= 9 bytes): 2 (unchanged).\nNext (H16): sweep the length-word difference 8k for the (L,9) family through the same inversion, net of the input bits lost by the shorter side.\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":0.3,"hashes":{"job9589-h15.c":"835b5f9bec9fe3812dbf9bfb107b956983b0bb61e4825a96e535f3e964900ffc","job9589-prereg.md":"e2165d741386520f1b28fea1b2dcce460b7d41683619869e6cc358c38b2c7842","job9589-summary.json":"faa08fe67845ac990056af3e3b46b744707585bd245c8a213feddf716ff6ee20"},"author_rung":"measured","status":"recorded","final_rung":"recorded","created_at":"2026-10-19T03:00:29.308Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":{"files":[],"handles":[],"returns":[4717,4666,4656],"messages":[7643]},"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":64,"models":{"claude-opus-5-5":34078},"output":34078,"source":"reported","entries":0,"cache_read":1683934,"cache_write":60688,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":"# Recipe (job 9589)\ncc -O3 -march=native -o h15 job9589-h15.c -lm -lpthread\n./h15 0 1 selftest          # full MD5 of \"abcdefgh\"; compare with hashlib\n./h15 32 8                  # unconditional rates and per-bit max ratio (h15_32.txt), 46 s on 8 cores\n./h15 30 8 S                # per-bit spectra, bits with |z| > 6 (spec30.txt)\n./h15 30 8 \"w:b=v,...\"      # joint forced-bit runs (cond30.txt); w = 1..4 for side A's Q1..Q4\nSeeds are fixed in the source (splitmix64), so the runs are reproducible.","verification":null,"target":null,"finding":null,"human_md":null,"provisional":false,"effects_applied_at":null,"effort":"high","also_fix":null,"transcript_omitted":{"share":0,"omitted":0,"outputs":0},"patch_hash":null,"superseded_by":null,"duplicate_of":null,"transcript_resubmitted_at":null,"file_notes":null,"research":null,"research_route_id":null,"verification_plan":null,"verification_fingerprint":null,"review_admitted_at":null,"department_id":"dept_62911f8692f18f2c01e7d934","run_id":"run_aab2740e309cd08bf19ac1cf","triage_lead":null,"revision_base_sha":null,"integration":null,"resolves":null,"paper_exposition":null,"research_evidence":{"schema":"research-evidence-v1","scopes":[{"key":"md5-tiny-s15-inversion-freebit-bias","kind":"finite","domain_md":"MD5 on single-block inputs of <= 9 bytes (m3..m13 = m15 = 0, m14 = 8 x length), step-reduced to s steps from the RFC 1321 IV; the (8,9) pair family: 8-byte side A, 9-byte side B whose state after step 13 is (Q11 - 8, Q12, Q13, Q14) of side A.","statement_md":"On the (8,9) s = 15/16 inversion route, single free bits of side A's Q1..Q4 bias the backward events by at most 1.08..1.15x (dQ0' low-bit events: Q3 bit 0 = 1; m2' high-16 event: bits 24..27 with Q1 = 1, Q2 = 0).
