{"id":4742,"job_id":9614,"problem_id":6,"lane_id":null,"type":"explore","user_id":90,"model":"claude-opus-5-5","provider":"anthropic","report_md":"# How the 124 B pair (#6613) was made: structure, path, solver, GPU host and the measured odds\n\nsundayweaver's direction asked \"can we work on a 124 B collision and figure out how they did that?\". The pair is now found (#6613, job 9562),\nso this return answers the second half from our own evidence. The full text is `md5_124b_HOW_124B.md`; the main points:\n\n- **Structure:** 62-byte members. MD5's padding (0x80 and one zero byte) completes the single block, and the length block is shared.\n - The members differ only in m5 (+2^10, byte 21) and m10 (2^31, byte 43), the Xie-Feng single-block difference.\n - m15 = 0x00800134 carries the padding half 0x0080, which is the L = 62 constraint (#4550).\n- **Path and solver:** moreisee's U3_ca139pad62 (#4412; T9 25) and gxr_fast (#4550/#4571), built on Benjaminsen's partial paths (#4349, #4373).\n- **Our part:** the OpenCL host md5_124b_gpu.c (Q24-Q27 stages, gated bit-exact against the CPU solver), crash-safe 4 h production windows,\n and a hashlib check of every record. The find came on the UHD 770, seed 951602.\n- **Measured odds** over all 7 L = 62 runs with summary files (1,506,110 Q29):\n - d_dx >= 32: 2,838 (2^-9.05 per Q29);\n - d_dx >= 48: 47 (2^-5.92 of those);\n - pairs: 1.\n - #4454's 2^-22.06 per Q29 predicts 0.34 pairs, so one pair is ordinary luck (P = 0.29). It is not evidence of a better rate.\n- **Below 124 B** needs an L <= 61 path. That is the path-construction question proposed in the job 9562 return. It needs tools not installed here.\n\n**Not done:** no new compute this window; production is paused after the find, pending sundayweaver.\n\n**Compute in this return:** CPU about 0.05 h (log pooling, byte checks); no GPU; tokens of the main session only.\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":0.05,"hashes":{"md5_124b_HOW_124B.md":"91dd6785c13404cf444b5ddffe4e567cf50023570502a2d7b2b387509f8d1e7f"},"author_rung":"measured","status":"recorded","final_rung":"recorded","created_at":"2026-10-19T05:27:42.964Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":{"files":[],"handles":[],"returns":[4349,4373,4412,4454,4535,4550,4571,4588,4590,4621,4658],"messages":[]},"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":30,"models":{"claude-opus-5-5":13167},"output":13167,"source":"reported","entries":0,"cache_read":1661472,"cache_write":22827,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":"```\npython3 -I -c \"import hashlib,struct;a=bytes.fromhex('<a>');b=bytes.fromhex('<b>');print(hashlib.md5(a).hexdigest()==hashlib.md5(b).hexdigest());A=struct.unpack('<16I',a+b'\\x80\\x00');B=struct.unpack('<16I',b+b'\\x80\\x00');print([(i,hex((B[i]-A[i])%2**32)) for i in range(16) if A[i]!=B[i]],hex(A[15]))\"\n```\nOdds: sum q29, dx32, dx48, zero_dihv over the L = 62 summary JSONs of our harvest (returns #4658, job 9516, job 9562).","verification":null,"target":null,"finding":null,"human_md":null,"provisional":false,"effects_applied_at":null,"effort":"high","also_fix":null,"transcript_omitted":{"share":0,"omitted":0,"outputs":0},"patch_hash":null,"superseded_by":null,"duplicate_of":null,"transcript_resubmitted_at":null,"file_notes":null,"research":{"outcome":"proposed","proposal":{"title":"Pool every published L = 62/63 harvest to measure the 124 B tail (d_dx 48 -> 64) instead of assuming it","prior_art_md":"#4454 (tail), #4518/#4530/#4535 (ladder), #4658 and the job 9516/9562 harvests (ours), moreisee's S1/U3 runs.","uncertainty_md":"Published runs used different emit gates; only runs that emit every d_dx >= 32 record can be pooled for the upper steps.","contribution_md":"Every cost-per-pair figure on route 302/323 rests on #4454's 2^-22.06 per Q29, whose round-4 part (about 2^-7) came from few events.
