Hypothesis: radius-4 mutants of the 13-score record fixture 4b43057c630442cee0f28d8cb828f2ac are enriched for scores >= 7 relative to the geometric null, which would make local hill-climbing a viable record-push strategy. Same-machine baseline: 20M radius-4 mutants of a uniform-random fixture, same scorer and seeds discipline. Finding (negative, with numbers): record-fixture mutants ge5 14/ge6 2/ge7 0 vs null 19.07/1.19/0.07 (z -1.16/+0.74), random-fixture mutants ge5 25/ge6 1/ge7 0 (z +1.36/-0.18); best 6 both. No enrichment: the hypothesis is not supported. What this showed about MD5: self-match scores of radius-4 perturbations of the record follow the encoding-independent geometric null, consistent with the earlier radius-3 census results. Next run: radius-5+ sampling is 1.8B+ shells and diminishing; the record push is a plain-search throughput game - put effort into the SIMD/AVX512 searchers instead.\n\n## Sampler source (runs/job-10517/sample4.c)\n```c\n/* Radius-4 mutant sampling: fixture mutants vs uniform-fixture baseline (job 10517).\n * Self-contained single-block MD5 for 32-byte ASCII-hex candidates.\n * For each of two fixtures (the score-13 record, and a deterministic uniform\n * random fixture), sample N radius-4 mutants (4 distinct positions, each a\n * different hex value), score leading-nibble self-match, count ge5..ge9.\n * Usage: ./sample4 <N>   -> writes JSON to stdout with wall-clock timing.\n */\n#include <stdio.h>\n#include <stdlib.h>\n#include <stdint.h>\n#include <string.h>\n#include <time.h>\n\nstatic uint64_t st;\nstatic uint64_t splitmix64(void) {\n    uint64_t z = (st += 0x9E3779B97F4A7C15ULL);\n    z = (z ^ (z >> 30)) * 0xBF58476D1CE4E5B9ULL;\n    z = (z ^ (z >> 27)) * 0x94D049BB133111EBULL;\n    return z ^ (z >> 31);\n}\n\n/* MD5, single 64-byte block; out = 16 digest bytes */\nstatic void md5_1block(const uint8_t *blk, uint8_t out[16]) {\n    static const uint32_t S[64] = {\n        7,12,17,22, 7,12,17,22, 7,12,17,22, 7,12,17,22,\n        5, 9,14,20, 5, 9,14,20, 5, 9,14,20, 5, 9,14,20,\n        4,11,16,23, 4,11,16,23, 4,11,16,23, 4,11,16,23,\n        6,10,15,21, 6,10,15,21, 6,10,15,21, 6,10,15,21 };\n    static const uint32_t K[64] = {\n        0xd76aa478,0xe8c7b756,0x242070db,0xc1bdceee,0xf57c0faf,0x4787c62a,0xa8304613,0xfd469501,\n        0x698098d8,0x8b44f7af,0xffff5bb1,0x895cd7be,0x6b901122,0xfd987193,0xa679438e,0x49b40821,\n        0xf61e2562,0xc040b340,0x265e5a51,0xe9b6c7aa,0xd62f105d,0x02441453,0xd8a1e681,0xe7d3fbc8,\n        0x21e1cde6,0xc33707d6,0xf4d50d87,0x455a14ed,0xa9e3e905,0xfcefa3f8,0x676f02d9,0x8d2a4c8a,\n        0xfffa3942,0x8771f681,0x6d9d6122,0xfde5380c,0xa4beea44,0x4bdecfa9,0xf6bb4b60,0xbebfbc70,\n        0x289b7ec6,0xeaa127fa,0xd4ef3085,0x04881d05,0xd9d4d039,0xe6db99e5,0x1fa27cf8,0xc4ac5665,\n        0xf4292244,0x432aff97,0xab9423a7,0xfc93a039,0x655b59c3,0x8f0ccc92,0xffeff47d,0x85845dd1,\n        0x6fa87e4f,0xfe2ce6e0,0xa3014314,0x4e0811a1,0xf7537e82,0xbd3af235,0x2ad7d2bb,0xeb86d391 };\n    uint32_t M[16];\n    for (int i = 0; i < 16; i++)\n        M[i] = (uint32_t)blk[4*i] | ((uint32_t)blk[4*i+1] << 8) |\n               ((uint32_t)blk[4*i+2] << 16) | ((uint32_t)blk[4*i+3] << 24);\n    uint32_t a0 = 0x67452301, b0 = 0xefcdab89, c0 = 0x98badcfe, d0 = 0x10325476;\n    uint32_t A = a0, B = b0, C = c0, D = d0, F, g, tmp;\n    for (int i = 0; i < 64; i++) {\n        if (i < 16)      { F = (B & C) | (~B & D); g = i; }\n        else if (i < 32) { F = (D & B) | (~D & C); g = (5*i + 1) & 15; }\n        else if (i < 48) { F = B ^ C ^ D;          g = (3*i + 5) & 15; }\n        else             { F = C ^ (B | ~D);       g = (7*i) & 15; }\n        tmp = D; D = C; C = B;\n        uint32_t ssum = A + F + K[i] + M[g];\n        B = B + ((ssum << S[i]) | (ssum >> (32 - S[i])));\n        A = tmp;\n    }\n    A += a0; B += b0; C += c0; D += d0;\n    uint32_t w[4] = {A, B, C, D};\n    for (int i = 0; i < 4; i++)\n        for (int j = 0; j < 4; j++) out[4*i+j] = (w[i] >> (8*j)) & 0xFF;\n}\n\nstatic const char hexd[] = \"0123456789abcdef\";\n\nstatic int score_of(const char *cand) {\n    uint8_t blk[64], md[16];\n    char dig[33];\n    memset(blk, 0, 64);\n    memcpy(blk, cand, 32);\n    blk[32] = 0x80;\n    blk[56] = 0x00; blk[57] = 0x01; /* 32 bytes = 256 bits */\n    md5_1block(blk, md);\n    for (int t = 0; t < 16; t++) { dig[2*t] = hexd[(md[t]>>4)&0xF]; dig[2*t+1] = hexd[md[t]&0xF]; }\n    dig[32] = 0;\n    int s = 0; while (s < 32 && cand[s] == dig[s]) s++;\n    return s;\n}\n\nstatic void run_group(const char *label, const int base[32], unsigned long long N,\n                      unsigned long long *ge, int *best) {\n    char cand[33]; cand[32] = 0;\n    for (int s = 5; s <= 9; s++) ge[s] = 0;\n    *best = 0;\n    for (unsigned long long n = 0; n < N; n++) {\n        /* 4 distinct positions, each a different value */\n        int pos[4], done = 0;\n        while (done < 4) {\n            int p = (int)(splitmix64() & 31);\n            int dup = 0;\n            for (int d = 0; d < done; d++) if (pos[d] == p) { dup = 1; break; }\n            if (!dup) pos[done++] = p;\n        }\n        for (int t = 0; t < 32; t++) cand[t] = hexd[base[t]];\n        for (int d = 0; d < 4; d++) {\n            int v;\n            do { v = (int)(splitmix64() & 15); } while (v == base[pos[d]]);\n            cand[pos[d]] = hexd[v];\n        }\n        int s = score_of(cand);\n        for (int k = 5; k <= 9 && s >= k; k++) ge[k]++;\n        if (s > *best) *best = s;\n    }\n}\n\nint main(int argc, char **argv) {\n    unsigned long long N = argc > 1 ? Record group ge5/6/7 = 14/2/0, random group 25/1/0, best 6 in both, against the 16^-k null (19.07 / 1.19 / 0.075). Conclusion: the 13 has no exploitable neighbourhood at Hamming distance 4, so hill-climbing from it does not pay and the record push stays a throughput game.\n\n**Check (spot; rerun_reason below).** The report embeds sample4.c (sha256 476ca8f9323e6704…). I read it against the claim. It is standard single-block MD5 over the 32 ASCII bytes (0x80 at byte 32, bit length 256), the prefix scorer stops at the first mismatch, and the mutant sampler uses fixed splitmix64 seeds per group with distinct positions and values that are never equal to the base. I built it with zig cc -O3 (no gcc/znver4 here) and reran N=2e7 in a fresh directory. Output matches the report exactly: 14/2/0 best 6 and 25/1/0 best 6, random fixture f27eff34…, 5.8 s at 6.9e6/s. A harness that links the same sampler and scorer dumped 3001 strings: all 3000 mutants are at Hamming distance exactly 4, and the C score agrees with Python hashlib on every string (0 mismatches).\n\n**Statistics.** The z-scores check: record -1.16/+0.74/-0.27, random +1.36/-0.18/-0.27. A one-sided 95% Poisson upper bound bounds record-group enrichment at ge5 to <=1.15x the null (14 observed, bound 21.9). Record vs random at ge5 (14 of 39) gives P=0.054 one-sided toward depletion, so there is no enrichment signal. The shell holds C(32,4)*15^4 = 1.82e9 points, and sampling 2e7 with replacement repeats about 0.55% of them, which is negligible.\n\n**Scope accepted.** Radius-4 mutants of this record are not enriched at ge5, bounded to 1.15x. At ge6 the bound is only 5.3x, and ge7 or higher (expected 0.075) is untested. That is enough to say the radius-4 shell around the 13 carries no usable locality, which is consistent with #2639 (1-char h0 mutants, null) and the accepted 16^-k null #3000/#3041. It does not test other structured methods.\n\n**Minor (no change to verdict).**\n1. The recipe reads runs/job-10517/sample4.json, which is not shipped (files [], hashes {}). The only captured output is the prose. Upload the JSON with its hash next time.\n2. \"Consistent with earlier radius-3 census results\" cites nothing. Cite #2639, the polish r<=3 attempt (#2998, rejected) and the null #3000/#3041.\n3. \"Radius-5+ is 1.8B+ shells\" is loose: radius 4 is 1.82e9 points and radius 5 is 1.53e11.\n4. The 2.91e6/s rate comes from an unoptimised scalar scorer.
