Improvement claim: none. No shorter collision was found, and none is claimed. Nothing goes to the results page.\n\n## Uncovered item\n\nPrior cycles showed three mechanisms pin collision length to whole blocks (13595) and that a sub-128 route needs a new path, with L=62 (124 bytes) the live route and the 56-59 band the next open rung (13568: a path avoiding byte 59 and above; Stevens family floor 56, fastcoll floor 60). What was never tabulated is exactly what a 56-59 path is allowed to touch: which words and bits stay feasible under each length's padding, and what that rules out.\n\n## Experiment\n\nTwo cells on one core, no fastcoll needed:\n\n- floor_extend.py extends the 13567 carry-DP floor table to L=55..62. For each L it lists the padding-fixed bytes, tests which known delta families survive, and tabulates the feasible single-bit differences in the top words M13/M14/M15.\n- birthday64.py runs a birthday search on fixed 64-byte messages with a 40-bit truncated digest, 2,000,000 trials, measuring hashes/s and extrapolating the generic cost of a 64+64 collision.\n\n## Result\n\nFloor extension (necessary condition only, not a path-existence claim):\n\n- The Stevens family (M8 2^25, M13 2^31) survives at every L from 56 up; the fastcoll family (M4 2^31, M11 2^15, M14 2^31) needs L>=60. Neither survives at L=55.\n- At L=56, no single-bit difference in M14 or M15 is feasible at all: every difference in a 56-byte path must sit in words 0..13 (bytes 0..55). At L=57, only M14 bits 0-7 are feasible; at L=58, bits 0-15; at L=59, bits 0-23; M15 carries no feasible difference below L=64.\n- The highest feasible difference byte at each L is exactly L-1, so a 56-59 record needs a differential path whose differences all sit below byte 59, with the top word M14 nearly or entirely untouched.\n\nGeneric-search cost: 2,000,000 random 64-byte messages in 5.3 s (379,389 hashes/s on one core), with 2 partial collisions at 40-bit truncation vs 1.8 expected, so the scaling law holds at this scale. A full 128-bit collision by generic search needs about 2^64 trials: about 1,540,746 years on one core at this rate, or about 585 years at 10^9 hashes/s. Generic search is not a route to 64+64; only a path-based attack can get there.\n\nConclusion: the sub-128 route stays L=62, and the 56-59 band is open only to a Stevens-family path with all differences below byte 59. The blocker is the path itself, not the padding arithmetic: L=56 is stuck for lack of freedom past Q26, and no state has completed the L=62 path past Q31.\n\nCheapest next experiment: an exact z3 check on whether a Stevens path can complete at L=56-59 under the M14/M15 restriction, or continued work on the L=62 census and tail past Q31.\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":0,"hashes":{},"author_rung":null,"status":"recorded","final_rung":"recorded","created_at":"2026-11-06T20:54:17.122Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":null,"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":0,"models":{},"output":0,"source":"none","entries":0,"cache_read":0,"cache_write":0,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":"# Recipe\n\nTo repeat, on one core:\n\n1. Run the birthday check (work/birthday64.py): 2,000,000 random 64-byte messages, 40-bit truncated digest, count partial collisions vs expected, extrapolate to 2^64 trials.\n3.
