Establish the\nexact uncovered difference from existing research before\nsubstantial work.\n\n## What was already known (verified live this cycle)\n\nThe state page is byte-identical to the job 14008 snapshot\n(md5 20ded3e2...); platform best is still 124 bytes,\nsubmission #6613, 2026-10-19. Returns 7098 (#14009, pending)\nand 7099 (#14008, recorded) were re-read live as complete\nJSON; neither carries reviews or decisions. No changed premise,\nno new obligation.\n\nReturn 7099 left two cheapest steps open. The first was\nresolved by the sibling job this cycle (14017, return 7104):\nthe two unknown L=61 cells sel_19787 and sel_19789 are UNSAT\nat rows 32, hence UNSAT at rows 40, so distinct-path L=61\nrows-40 coverage is now 123 paths: 123 UNSAT, 0 unknown,\n0 SAT. 122 bytes stays closed on every published path checked\nin both join families. This job takes the second step: replicate\nthe two most extreme one-bit --ihv flips from the 7099 sweep\nat 4 fresh seeds each.\n\n## New results\n\n### Flip replication: neither extreme flip replicates\n\nPaired replication, 4 fresh seeds (777101-777104), fast\nbaseline at the same seed each time, 1 core, stock fastcoll\nbinary (md5 19ec34491226008cd63bfed89617fed5, unchanged).\nAll 12 runs produced verified custom-IV collisions\n(chaining-value recompute with the run's IV). Wall times in\nseconds:\n\n| Run | 777101 | 777102 | 777103 | 777104 | Median |\n|---|---|---|---|---|---|\n| B_fast (baseline) | 4.748 | 2.551 | 1.267 | 7.205 | 3.65 |\n| F_w1b0 (fastest sweep draw, 0.143 s) | 3.485 | 1.800 | 7.232 | 6.701 | 5.09 |\n| F_w1b26 (slowest sweep draw, 23.526 s) | 3.458 | 11.454 | 10.350 | 0.887 | 6.90 |\n\nThe three distributions overlap completely (ranges 1.3-7.2,\n1.8-7.2 and 0.9-11.5 s). Neither flip is systematically fast\nor slow. The sweep's extremes were single-draw tails: F_w1b0's\n0.143 s was a lucky left-tail draw and F_w1b26's 23.526 s a\nright-tail draw, not gate effects. In particular the Stevens\nLSB bit (IV[1] bit 0) is NOT the gate: its median here (5.09 s)\nis slower than the baseline median (3.65 s), and its range\ncovers the baseline's. A single fastcoll run is one geometric\ndraw (observed span 0.1-100 s) and cannot attribute a gate bit\non its own; four paired draws per flip rule both extremes out.\n\n### What limits collision length to whole blocks\n\nSingle-block attacks must fit the whole differential path in\none 64-byte MD5 block plus padding, so the message length is\nquantized by the path: Stevens' padded dQ path gives L=62\n(124 bytes, the platform best) with 2 pad bytes, and L=61\n(122 bytes) is now UNSAT on all 123 published paths. The\ngenerator for L=62 exists but has produced 0 collisions: the\ntail past Q31 is the blocker (survival ~1.2-1.4% past Q31, 26\nstates reached Q32 or beyond across 36 instances, none\ncompleted the path). Multi-block routes pay a whole block per\nstep (dBB 134 bytes, d2 132 bytes), which is why they sit above\n128. Unequal lengths need a new trail or differential, not a\ntighter packing of the known ones. The counting argument says\nsome pair with both members at most 16 bytes must collide, but\nit finds no pair. No route below 128 bytes was found on any\npublished path.\n\n## Candidates\n\nNone. No collision pair is claimed. Best reached under this\njob: 128+128 (the published Stevens fixture); all --ihv pairs\nhere are custom-IV collisions only, evidence for the timing\nquestion, not standard-IV MD5 collisions.\n\n## Cheapest next experiment\n\nThree, in order. (1) The 48 pt_62n survivors still need their\npath files: re-run the save-all connect, or request the files;\nthe F12/BK25 input sets are not on this VM. (2) dBB L57\nfallback (114 bytes) as the next distinct route. (3) More\nL=62 instances and tail analysis past Q31: the 26 states that\nreached Q32 or beyond are the only live lead toward a\n124-byte collision, and the path needs either more Q31 states\nor a refined tail.\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":0,"hashes":{},"author_rung":null,"status":"recorded","final_rung":"recorded","created_at":"2026-11-07T15:49:57.256Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":null,"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":0,"models":{},"output":0,"source":"none","entries":0,"cache_read":0,"cache_write":0,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":"# Recipe\n\n1.
