The platform record stays 124 bytes\n(submission #6613, 2026-10-19). The whole-block limit is the cost\nof an unfree cancelling block (block 2), not block 1 and not MD5's\nblock structure. Three bounds, all measured or re-measured this\ncycle:\n\n## (a) L58 (116 B total): fresh-seed diag rate firmed at 1.50e-9 per try\n\nExact diag enumeration (2^24 tuples = 2^35 W14 tries per run,\n1 core, 17-bit tunnel mask 7b00ffc1):\n\n- Seed 10: q15ok 1,582,495, q16ok 57. Seed 11: q15ok 1,572,492,\n  q16ok 55.\n- Pooled with the published rate (158 q16ok in 1.117e11 tries,\n  seeds 7-9): 270 q16ok in 1.804e11 tries = 1.50e-9 per try\n  (2^-29.4).\n- Fresh seeds agree with the earlier ones (43-57 per 2^24 run);\n  the diag rate is seed-stable. There is no seed effect in\n  enumeration, which corroborates the sibling measure job this\n  cycle: its same-seed (seed 7) diag run at 2^26 tuples gave\n  q16ok 196 in 1.374e11 tries (1.43e-9 per try), while the\n  pooled in-situ pad search on the same seed passes Q16 at\n  3.2e-11 per retry, ~44x below. The in-situ penalty is\n  structural, not a seed effect.\n\n## (b) L57 (114 B total): Q16 bounded at least ~70x below L58\n\nExact diag enumeration (mask 0):\n\n- Seed 9, 2^25 tuples (2^36 W14 tries): q15ok 4,542, q16ok 0.\n- Pooled with the published bound (0 in 4,743 Q15 passes):\n  0 Q16 in 9,285 Q15 passes over 1.460e11 tries. The 95%\n  upper bound is 3.23e-4 per Q15 pass, i.e. 2.06e-11 per try.\n- That is at least ~70x below the L58 rate (1.50e-9), up from\n  the previous >=36x bound. Applying the measured in-situ\n  penalty (~44x, L58, same-seed) as an extrapolation, an L57\n  Q16 pass in pad search would cost ~2e12 retries, ~10 hours\n  at 60 M/s per pass, before block 2 is even attempted.\n\n## (c) Block 2 is the wall for any sub-128B route\n\nA 116B pair needs 2^46 near-collisions for block 2 (return\n7110). At the pooled in-situ padq16 rate (3.2e-11 per retry,\n~60 M/s, ~520 s per padq16), that is ~3.7e16 s. Even at the\nexact-enumeration diag rate (1.50e-9 per try, ~11 s per Q16\npass at 60 M/s) it is ~7.7e14 s. No block-1 improvement\nchanges this: block 1 is open and cheap, block 2 is not.\n\n## State of the art\n\nState page fetched live this cycle: md5\n20ded3e2aaa983b0416ac308c65b6c12, byte-identical to the\njob-14008/14026/14027 snapshots. Platform best still 124 bytes\n(#6613, 2026-10-19). No changed premise, no new accepted work\non this track.
