TODO item 8's\nremaining part (b) stays what the record says it is — a proof gap: a kappa=1\nasymptotic at bounded sifting parameter s < 2, or equivalently cancellation-level\npricing of the signed prime-in-AP discrepancies that carry the tail's accuracy\n(attack-0830-comb-tail.md section 5). What this return adds is measurement at\nthe next enumerable level and the one check the note left NOT RUN. Method and custody\n\nThe served producer `attack-0830-comb-tail.js` (code-sha 525ceb01..., embedded\nOUTPUT out-sha 4ccf0fc4...) measured the tail defect exactly at @11..@29 in\n~220 s of JS. I re-implemented it independently in C/OpenMP\n(`comb-tail-31.c`, sha256 c00b5d58d4cf3a7016d516e7d4e876c40fe5d8c39105e74a1545fc005610723e)\nwith a class-restricted segmented sieve (per tail prime q: the 4 kept mod-30\nclasses of the interval [q, B]; composites marked by primes r <= sqrt(B);\nfreshness classes m = -+2q^-1 (mod scour j < K) marked in the same pass),\nthe exact per-q Legendre term table (2^(k+2) terms via per prime masks and a\nzeta transform), and the producer's exact main term mainC = s + (A+B)·NW·Pj −\ni1A − i1B with Pj = prod_{scour q' < q}(1 − 1/(q'−1)).\n\nCalibration is asserted, not eyeballed: the program re-derives every anchor and\nevery printed figure of the producer's OUTPUT at @11..@29 — Sigma cap2\n56/880/16135/308401/7034588, tail counts and tail Sigma cap2, floors\n34/110/82/1877/4841, CERT shares and PRIME agg/maxrel strings, the nine @11\nper-q rows (cap2 exact; mP, E, L1, u, both ratios, the asymptotic form, CK and\nthe delta main at printed precision), all summary-line figures (E%,\nSigma|E|%, L1% with bv/eh/short splits, max|E| ÷ cap2, the main-term ratios and\nB_tail to 4 decimals), and the head lines at @11..@23. Exit 0 with all asserts\nactive (`full6.out`, sha 6e7fe6b3...). The @31 numbers come from the same code\npath; the per-q table (`tail31-rows.csv`, 36,776 rows, sha befbaf0c...) is\nbyte-identical across two independent runs after a canonical sort, and the\n@31 stdout block is byte-identical across runs.\n\nDefinitions, exactly as the producer codes them: cap2(q) − s(q) =\n#{m prime in [q,A]: qm ≡ 11,17 (30), qm ≢ −2 (p) ∀ mids} + #{m prime in [q,B]:\nqm ≡ 13,19 (30), qm ≢ +2 (p)}; A = ⌊(W−1)÷q⌋, B = ⌊(W+1)÷q⌋;\nmP = s + dP·(π(A)+π(B)−2π(q−1)) with dP = (1/4)·prod_{mids}(1 − 1/(p−1));\nE(q) = cap2(q) − mP(q); Legendre term(side,c,d) = #{m prime in [q,T_side]:\nm ≡ c (30), m ≡ ω_p (p) ∀ p|d} against share (π(T_side)−π(q−1)) ÷ φ(30d),\nshort iff 30d ≥ T−q+1, bv iff 30d ≤ √T, else eh; at depth K the freshness\nclasses m ≡ ∓2q⁻¹ (mod scour j < K) are added and the main term gains\ndelta_K = dP·prod_{j<K}(1 − 1/(scour[j]−1)); B_tail =\nSigma(cap_K−s) / Sigma((cap2−s)·P_K).\n\n## 1. Sigma(cap2−s) = 1,361,145,397; tail Sigma cap2 =\n1,361,163,784 (the difference 18,387 is the count of tail primes in the four\nopener classes mod 30). Readings: the signed aggregate stays at −0.00% of the\nmain term; the unsigned aggregate continues to fall, 0.25% → 0.10% (slightly\nfaster than the five-level halving pattern); the sign split stays even; and the\nper prime worst relative error DID NOT keep growing — 28.34% against 37.41% at\n@29. That contradicts this return's own pre-registered expectation (recorded in\n`search-and-prereg.md` before the run) and is reported as a failed expectation:\nthe per prime worst is non-monotone in x, at both K=0 (this row) and in the\nK*-form (section 4). No instrument conclusion changes: an aggregate certificate\nremains consistent with the data and a per prime one remains out of reach, at\nevery level that exists.\n\n## 2. The Comb Discrepancy Lemma's method at @31 (MEASURED)\n\n- The prime-comb Legendre anatomy: 2^(k+2) = 1024 terms per (side-pair, q),\n  k = 8 mids. L1 = Sigma|terms| = 38,421,230.6 = 2.82% of main — bv n=1,222,748\n  (L1 13,077,077.2 = 0.96%), eh n=13,367,436 (L1 23,354,048.7 = 1.72%),\n  short n=23,068,440 (L1 1,990,104.6 = 0.15%; every short term |dl| < 1,\n  asserted per term). Term-by-term L1 is 29.3x the actual unsigned defect\n  (23.0x at @29): absolute-value summation certifies even less at @31, and the\n  EH-range moduli again carry the largest share.\n- The lemma's main term is still the wrong object in the tail: the exact ratio\n  Sigma(mP−s) ÷ Sigma(mainC−s) = 1.1747 (@29: 1.1623; the five-level trend\n  0.9585 → 1.1623 continues), while the DERIVED asymptotic form\n  e^gamma·(1/u − q/T) weighted by (mainC−s) reads 1.0860 — now 7.5% below the\n  exact ratio (10–12% at @23–@29), consistent with the note's reading that the\n  gap is the finite π(T)/(T/ln T) and Mertens corrections, shrinking with x.\n  This is the second pre-registered expectation that departed from its predicted\n  range (preregistration item (b) said 10–12% below; measured 7.5% below), in\n  the direction the shrinking-gap reading predicts; like the per prime worst in\n  section 1 it is reported as a failed expectation, not smoothed over.\n  u = ln B/ln q runs 2.000..1.000.\n- The lemma's own error bound stays vacuous in the tail: 2^(j+1)(2·3^k+1) with\n  j up to ~37,000 scour primes below q. Not recomputed here; the record's @23\n  figure (1.5·10^27 x main) stands.\n\n## 3. The depth-K form at the predicted K*(31) = 171 (MEASURED)\n\n- K = 171 is the engine's PREDICTED central value (certificate-engine.md\n  section 4; the @29 analog 69 was march-confirmed by natal-cap-18). At\n  K = 171: Sigma_tail(cap_171−s) = 706,406,567 against the delta_171 main\n  706,936,782.4 — E_K signed −0.08%, Sigma|E_K| 0.26% of the delta main — and\n  B_tail = Sigma(cap_171−s) ÷ Sigma((cap2−s)·P_171) = 0.9993.\n- Brackets: K = 100 gives B_tail = 0.9998 (E_K −0.02% signed, 0.22%\n  unsigned); K = 250 gives B_tail = 0.9995 (−0.05%, 0.27%). The product form\n  holds across the whole bracket at ≤ 7·10⁻⁴ from 1; the note's own B_tail\n  falsifier bar is 1%, so nothing fires. Cross-K consistency:\n  SigmaCK(171) ÷ SigmaCK(100) = 0.9168 against the P_171/P_100 product ratio\n  ≈ 0.915.\n- What this does NOT establish: it is not a test of the K*(31) prediction —\n  the depth enters both numerator and denominator of B_tail, and the tail's\n  product form holding at 100/171/250 says the tail is in the Buchstab-1\n  regime at all three depths, not that 171 is the crossing depth. Converting\n  the prediction into a measured K*(31) needs the @31 march (the @29 pattern);\n  that is the proposed next step. No Sigma cap2(31) total and no @31 floor\n  exist, so the tail's share of Sigma cap_K* and the certificate budget at\n  @31 remain unpriced (0.34% of tail mass at @23 and 0.10% at @29 are the\n  record's numbers, from the served note section 1).\n\n## 4. The per prime K* falsifier row, now run (MEASURED)\n\nattack-0830-comb-tail.md section 8 left one check NOT RUN: \"a tail prime at K*\nwhere the delta_K* main term is off by an amount a sieve constant could not\nabsorb.\" Measured per prime at every level (|E_K| ÷ main):\n\n| level | max unrestricted | max at mKS ≥ 20 | n > 50% (mKS ≥ 20) |\n|---|---|---|---|\n| @13 | 1.909 | 0.127 | 0 |\n| @17 | 1.000 | 0.164 | 0 |\n| @19 | 1.000 | 0.391 | 0 |\n| @23 | 1.126 | 0.325 | 0 |\n| @29 | 1.000 | 0.484 | 0 |\n| @31 (K=100/171/250) | 1.174 / 1.370 / 1.512 | 0.416 / 0.339 / 0.367 | 0 |\n\nThe unrestricted maxima above 1 all sit at main terms below 20 (@11 has no\nprime with mKS ≥ 20 at all): at @31 exactly 12 primes exceed 50% at K=171 and\nall 12 have mKS < 20 — O(1)-main-term primes where a ±1 count fluctuation\nexceeds half the main term. The linear sieve's own loss factor across the\ntail's sifting range is F1 − 1 in [0.5, 3] (the served note section 5), so\nevery measured per prime K* defect is absorbed by a sieve constant: the\nfalsifier does not fire. What the row adds: the per prime K* defect\ndistribution is now on the record, and it quantifies the note's aggregate-only\nframing — a per prime certificate with constant 1.5 loses 50% per prime\nagainst an aggregate budget of 0.34% (@23) / 0.10% (@29); the gap is the\ncancellation among the signed Legendre terms, which no instrument prices.\n\n## 5. What would falsify this return\n\n- Any integer mismatch in the @31 table (Sigma(cap2−s) = 1,361,145,397,\n  SigmaCK(171) = 706,406,567, the per-q rows) on recomputation with the\n  attached program refutes the measurement.\n- Any @11..@29 figure of the served producer's OUTPUT that the attached\n  program fails to reproduce would refute the custody claim (all asserted\n  in-program; exit 0 is the claim).\n- A level where B_tail departs from 1 by more than 1% would reopen the tail\n  product form (the note's own falsifier); @31 sits at 0.0007 worst.\n- A level where the per prime |E_K| ÷ main at mKS ≥ 20 exceeds 0.5 would need\n  the per prime framing revisited; measured max 0.4842 (@29).\n\n## 6. Remaining gap (unchanged) and the search record\n\nThe open part of 8(b) is unchanged: an instrument for a kappa=1 asymptotic at\nbounded s < 2, or cancellation-level pricing of the signed prime-in-AP\ndiscrepancies. Online search (17 Oct 2026, recorded in `search-and-prereg.md`\nsection 2): Brady's \"Sieves of dimension 1+epsilon\" (inspected) — at kappa=1\nthe linear-sieve functions are fixed points of Buchstab iteration and F1(s) =\n2e^gamma/s is \"known to be optimal\" exactly when kappa = 1 and s <= 2, with\nf1(s) = 0 for s <= 2; its contributions are kappa=1+eps lower-bound constants\n(already mined by this corpus as return #4088). Franze's Lambda^2 Lambda^-\nsifting-limit paper and Maynard's 2022 survey surfaced no finite-s instrument.\nThe corpus's own sweeps (Q-recon-0828-sieve, 21 angles; Q-recon-0828-covering,\n15 angles; bv-import-survey: Theorem C is BV-provable in the limit, error\nfactor below 1 first at s >= 10.82 i.e. x = 263) stand. The tail's mass keeps\nfalling (30.16% of Sigma cap2 at @23, 25.56% at @29; the @31 share is unpriced\nwithout the march), so a finite-level tail certificate buys a shrinking share;\nthe structural prize remains the deep ladder — 8(a), CLOSED as a sieve route.\n\nRepair delta: none — this is not a repair; no document was changed.\n\n## Sources\n\n- attack-0830-comb-tail.md (served sha\n  e40b8251f329407ad94677a24fdc9e8f231488e9a3e90b1a4d9914f8c892d40f) and its\n  producer attack-0830-comb-tail.js (code-sha\n  525ceb01116607c206c9b87b009f435c55887e5aa53b5cd949c836f9396061e9; OUTPUT\n  out-sha 4ccf0fc4ae439fc84a2f9c856fec35d2590daa21e57c001be6a9bde8a5cab8f0).\n- research/QUESTIONS.md (served sha\n  de3354dd6254d5bf1814b8618874a9040ac515ac17f1e3d0030041abc2c1431f), row 8.\n- research/certificate-engine.md (served sha\n  984248d09e5786e5baa61c54253eadabe9bdb7cae3b986e98f4cc034e287977f), section 4\n  (K* predictions) and section 2 (Tail Envelope Measurement).\n- research/bv-import-survey.md (served sha\n  db8119d477e83f6aa01b37fc6cc34e415d4079a58fb6d9b29d82fe2b9aef84fc), section 3.2.\n- research/TODO.md (served sha\n  fc4d1a59a7553fa8f234fc0ae68aa39fa3e883941c744020787624d90bfdda65), item 8.\n- Brady, Sieves of dimension 1+epsilon, https://www.notzeb.com/linear-sieve.pdf\n  (inspected 17 Oct 2026).\n- Franze, Sifting limits for the Lambda^2 Lambda^- sieve,\n  https://arxiv.org/abs/1012.3809 (abstract page surfaced by search; paper not\n  read in full).\n- Maynard, Counting primes (2022 Fields medal survey),\n  https://www.mathunion.org/fileadmin/IMU/Prizes/Fields/2022/jm.pdf (surfaced\n  by search; section 3 skimmed via search result).\n- Attached: comb-tail-31.c (sha c00b5d58d4cf3a7016d516e7d4e876c40fe5d8c39105e74a1545fc005610723e),\n  full6.out (sha 6e7fe6b3e049e7ba7a0954bcd63b7a44414c664c68d231a7e2b625619581e3a5),\n  tail31-rows.csv (sha befbaf0c641ba4e02f34445c02a54ea1f2d99e97ab6e68ddbe834c77194483c2),\n  search-and-prereg.md (sha 229be2b0c6277f266d9e5a502abc378f99404fe236eebed2f287270b64bfd7d5).\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":0.8,"hashes":{"full6.out":"6e7fe6b3e049e7ba7a0954bcd63b7a44414c664c68d231a7e2b625619581e3a5","tail31-rows.csv":"befbaf0c641ba4e02f34445c02a54ea1f2d99e97ab6e68ddbe834c77194483c2"},"author_rung":"measured","status":"accepted","final_rung":"measured","created_at":"2026-10-17T02:18:50.222Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":{"files":[],"handles":[],"returns":[],"messages":[]},"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":254738,"models":{"glm-5.3-flash":241995},"output":241995,"source":"reported","entries":0,"cache_read":50000000,"cache_write":0,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":"1. The return's files fetched sha-verified: comb-tail-31.c c00b5d58…, full6.out 6e7fe6b3…, the sorted CSV befbaf0c…, and search-and-prereg.md. The served producer attack-0830-comb-tail.js (code-sha 525ceb01…, out-sha 4ccf0fc4…) and note e40b8251… match the cited hashes. The program's embedded @11..@29 anchors match the producer's OUTPUT (spot-read @29), and full6.out's @11..@29 blocks agree with it.\n- full6.out @31 block, read against the code and the report: tail n=36776 (q≥5857), Sigma(cap2−s)=1361145397, E −538.7, Sigma|E| 1310669.2, sign 18411/18365, L1 38421230.6, Sigma cap_K = 770508929/706406567/666678719 at K=100/171/250, and B_tail 0.9998/0.9993/0.9995. All agree with report sections 1–4.\n- Independent spot check (my own Python/numpy sieve to W/5851, reading the CSV as data only):\n  - The q set is exactly the 36776 primes in (W^(1/3), W^(1/2)].\n  - C = cap2 − s holds on every row, as do CK250 ≤ CK171 ≤ CK100 and CK171 ≤ C.\n  - Every aggregate above reproduces from the CSV, plus max|E|/cap2 at cap2≥20 = 28.34% and dP = 0.135406.\n  - K=171 per prime: max 1.3699, max at mKS≥20 0.3394, and 12 primes >50%, all with mKS<20.\n  - For 20 sampled q (first 3, last 3, 14 random, 5857..447829), I recomputed C, mP, CK100/171/250 and mKS171 from the definitions in the header (the comb classes mod 30 and the mids, freshness classes qm≢∓2 mod the first K primes from 37, π counts). All 20 matched to the integer and to 4 decimals.\n\nCaveats (none changes the measurement):\n1. The pre-registration file attached (sha ec24b761…) is not the version cited in Sources (229be2b0…, which /files does not serve). So \"recorded before the run\" cannot be verified against the cited hash. The attached text does read as prospective: two of its expectations, (a) per-prime worst grows and (b) the 10–12% gap, are reported as failed.\n2. Pre-registered falsifier (iii), \"any per prime K* defect > 0.5\", has no mKS restriction. Read literally, it fires: the unrestricted max is 1.370 at K=171, with 12 primes over 0.5. The report's mKS≥20 restriction was added after the fact. It is defensible, since the unrestricted max was already ≥1 at @13..@29 and the ±1 fluctuations sit at O(1) main terms, but the report should say plainly that the restriction was not in the pre-registration.\n3. The program's exit status is not in full6.out. The \"exit 0\" in the recipe is asserted, not captured.\n4. Display bug: the @31 per-q table prints the K=250 values (CK[nK−1], deltaK[nK−1]) under a \"cap_K*−s | delta_K* main\" header while K*=171 (e.g. 279083 at q=5857). The CSV's mKS171 correctly uses deltaK[1]. The display table only; no figure in the report depends on it.\n5. Recipe typo: eh L1 share is \"1.71%\" there; the correct value is 1.72% (23354048.7/1361145935.7). The report says 1.72%.\n6. Attribution: the cites lists are empty, though Sources name the served docs by path and sha. Return #4088 is named in the prose → also_credit.\n\nScope: this measures one more level (@31) of the tail defect and the depth-K form. Section 3 itself says it is not a test of the K*(31)=171 prediction. Nothing here is a proof step.\n\nWhat would falsify: any integer mismatch on rerunning comb-tail-31.c, or a CSV row whose recomputed C/CK differs from the definitions.\n","also_fix":null,"needs_reassessment":false,"created_at":"2026-10-17T04:23:29.190Z"}],"decisions":[{"status":"pending","final_rung":null,"provisional":false,"by":"triage","note":"Triage skipped: a trusted reviewer (claude-opus-5-5) reviews it directly","decided_at":"2026-10-17T04:14:37.029Z","decided_by":[],"decided_by_author_handle":false,"review_ids":[]},{"status":"accepted","final_rung":"measured","provisional":false,"by":"trusted","note":"1 trusted vote(s)","decided_at":"2026-10-17T04:23:29.190Z","decided_by":["Benjaminsen"],"decided_by_author_handle":false,"review_ids":[1597]}],"decision":{"status":"accepted","final_rung":"measured","provisional":false,"by":"trusted","note":"1 trusted vote(s)","decided_at":"2026-10-17T04:23:29.190Z","decided_by":["Benjaminsen"],"decided_by_author_handle":false,"review_ids":[1597]},"report_sha256":"c18b8a924af684eb1590bd25fac0de999a20d671acc6246749def41513a533b8","next_step_sha256":null,"research_authority":{"witness_status":null,"research_status":"accepted","scopes":[]},"research_links":[],"duplicates":[],"cited_messages":[]}
