What is new, and what is not\n\nThe lane's CRT object — the longest interval in which every residue pair `(m, m+2)` has one member\nsharing a factor with `x#` — is the **paired-progression Jacobsthal function `h2(x#)`**: the least `m`\nsuch that every `m` consecutive integers contain a `k` with `gcd(k,x#)=gcd(k+2,x#)=1`. The project\nrecords its values as `G_2(x#)` (#3439: `G_2(17#) = 108`).\n\n**Not new (prior art, cited not claimed):** the *maxima*. Ziller & Morack, *A short note on the\ncomputation of the generalised Jacobsthal function for paired progressions*, arXiv:1706.03668 (2017),\ncomputed the paired Jacobsthal function for primorials **for primes up to 73** (ancillary files\n`psi_2_min.txt`, `full_details.pdf`). This run therefore makes **no novelty claim on any `h2` value**;\nthe three values below are reported as *reproductions* in the project's own form.\n\n**New (the statistic this assignment asked for):** the **run-length spectrum** —\n`N_max(x#)`, the multiplicity of the maximal run inside one full period, and `d5(x#) = top1 − top5`,\nthe spread of the top five run lengths, plus the tail histogram. No table of maxima can decide these,\nand no retained project census contains them.\n\n**The decision it informs.** Route 205/#9352 has to bound runs of the both-killed core; a run bound\nthat is *smooth in `x`* is usable only if the extremal run is not a single lucky CRT translate.\n`N_max ≥ 2` with a flat top means the extremum is translate-robust (a CRT argument can hope to bound\nit); `N_max = 1` with a wide `d5` would mean the extremum is one configuration and a smooth-in-`x`\nbound needs a different argument.\n\n## 2. Measured (exact, integer, one full period, cyclic)\n\n| rung | `P = x#` | `|A|` admissible | `θ = |A|/P` | `L_max` | `h2 = L_max+1` | `N_max` | `d5` | top-5 run lengths |\n|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|\n| 17# | 510,510 | 22,275 | 0.0436328 | 107 | **108** | **20** | **0** | 107 ×5 |\n| 19# | 9,699,690 | 378,675 | 0.0390399 | 149 | **150** | **20** | **0** | 149 ×5 |\n| 23# | 223,092,870 | 7,952,175 | 0.0356451 | 203 | **204** | **4** | **6** | 203, 203, 203, 203, 197 |\n\n`A = {m ∈ [0,P) : gcd(m,x#) = gcd(m+2,x#) = 1}`; a *run* is a maximal set of consecutive positions\noutside `A`, taken cyclically in `P` (`L_max` = longest such run, `h2 = L_max + 1`).\n\n23#'s top-20 is `203×4, 197×2, 191×8, 185×6`; its full tail histogram at/above `L_max − 6` is\n`{203: 4, 197: 2}`. 17# and 19# are perfectly flat: **all** twenty top runs equal `L_max`.\n\n## 3. Pre-registered gates (frozen in `prereg_ib.md` before any 19#/23# measurement)\n\n- **G0 instrument gate — PASSED.** `h2(17#) = 108` is reproduced by this run's own census, equal to\n the served lane value `G_2(17#) = 108` (#3439). A separate cross-check on the *different*\n (single-coprime) Jacobsthal object gave interior run `25 → j(17#) = 26 = h(7)`, the tabulated value.\n- **F1 — REFUTED.** *Claim:* `d5 ≤ 2` at every rung. Measured `d5 = 0, 0, 6`: the top of the spectrum\n is flat at 17#/19# but **spreads by 6 at 23#** (203 vs 191).\n- **F2 — SURVIVED.** *Claim:* `N_max ≥ 2` at every rung. Measured `20, 20, 4`: the maximal run occurs\n on many translates, not one.\n- **F3 — REFUTED, and in the opposite direction.** *Claim:* the matched-density memoryless control's\n longest run is at least 10× shorter than the periodic maximum. Measured control maxima (three frozen\n seeds per rung) `{224,249,226}`, `{337,435,374}`, `{450,456,442}` — **2.1× to 2.9× LONGER** than the\n exact periodic maximum (ratios `L_max/control` = 0.430, 0.343, 0.445).\n\n## 4. Why F3's direction matters (the transferable negative)\n\nUniform random placement at the **matched count** of non-admissible positions has a *longer* worst\ngap than the exact CRT set has at every rung. So the wheel is **more uniform** than its density\npredicts, and any bound on the extremal twin-free run obtained from the density alone\n(`θ`, `1 − θ`, a count census, `G_2` alone) is in the *wrong direction to be tight*: it can only\novershoot. Concretely, the retained censuses of this lane contain counts and densities; **they could\nnot have decided `h2`**, and a run bound that uses only them cannot decide route 205/#9352's\nquestion either. That is the changed premise this assignment was asked to establish.\n\n## 5. Evidence and its cheapest decisive check\n\n- Independent re-derivation: `check_ib.py` rebuilds every mask with a **pure-Python `bytearray` sieve**\n (no numpy, no shared function with the producer) and reproduces `P`, `|A|`, `L_max`, `N_max` and the\n top five at all three rungs; it also re-derives `|A|` from the **exact product formula**\n `P·∏(1 − ν_p/p)` (`ν_2 = 1`, `ν_p = 2`) and re-verifies every maximizer with plain `math.gcd`.\n- **24 checks, 2 FAIL — both FAILs are the pre-registered refutations F1 and F3**, reported as such,\n not weakened (`check_ib.out`). Nothing else fails.\n- **Mutation controls 14/14 decisive** (`check_ib.corrupt.all.out`); one control (reversing a constant\n top-20) was re-aimed at the non-constant rung after it proved a no-op on the data, not by relaxing a\n check. The mutation harness restores the data files from a pristine copy; a base re-run after the\n mutation suite reproduces the same 24 checks / 2 FAIL.\n- **44 exact witnesses** (`witnesses_ib.json`) — 20 + 20 + 4 maximizer start positions — each verified\n with `gcd` to have all `L_max` positions non-admissible and both boundary positions admissible. This\n check needs no sieve and no trust in the census code.\n- **Byte-reproducibility:** two independent census runs give the same `self_sha256`\n `46fbfd448bd7848cd77e7367885127fb0495f5d5d629039660f836e790115c4e`; wall-clock timings are printed,\n never stored, so the hash is a real integrity pin.\n- Cost actually used: `< 1 CPU-minute` of exact computation (largest single step: the 23# period,\n ~11 s wall, 223 MB mask), run under `sah.py bounded --limit 900` so no child could outlive its group.\n\n**Cheapest decisive check of this return:** re-run `census_ib.py` (30 s) or `check_ib.py` (9 s) from\nthe attached pinned files. Nothing depends on the server and no private input is used.\n\n## 6. Honest scope and what remains open\n\n- Three rungs only (`x = 17, 19, 23`), finite and exact. **No asymptotic law, no bound on `G2(x#)`,\n the classical `G2`, `β₂` or twin-prime infinitude is claimed.**\n- The *trend* is real but short: `N_max` 20 → 20 → 4 with `d5` 0 → 0 → 6. Whether translate-degeneracy\n keeps falling (a genuine obstacle to a CRT run bound) is **undecided** at three points.\n- The `h2` values are reproductions of a published computation I could **not fetch** (the ancillary\n table itself); the agreement with the served `G_2(17#) = 108` is the only external anchor verified\n here. A direct comparison against `psi_2_min.txt` is the cheapest open check.\n- The matched-density control is one null family (uniform placement at the matched count), three frozen\n seeds; it is not a proof that no density-based bound can be tight, only that this one is loose.\n- Rung 29# (period 6,469,693,230) was **not** touched: out of scope here (declared in advance).\n- 8 of @Benjaminsen's returns still wait for a verdict; nothing is needed from the person.\n\n## 7. What this changes\n\nA new finite statistic now exists where the lane had only a maximum: **the run spectrum, its\nmultiplicity and its spread, with a matched-density control**. It is decidable in under a minute at\n17#/19#/23# and its first two claims at 23# already move: the extremal twin-free run is markedly\ndegenerate (20 translates) at 17#/19# but only 4-fold at 23#, and the density-only model that the\nretained censuses would have to use is *pessimistic by 2.1–2.9×* at every measured rung.\n\n**Dead ends recorded:** do not try to bound the extremal twin-free run from the retained counts or\ndensities — measured here to be loose in the wrong direction (F3); and do not read the flat 17#/19#\ntop as a law — it is already broken at 23# (F1).\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":0.05,"hashes":{"check_ib.py":"7f8e30b1c2c6e67f6f5028d2264ee7c9cc185b0f54c7baa10676c333b1515606","fetch_ib.py":"1eb9aca539c5540919c809efa9e14f9bc57490d2205c38679a95c9db33e8c16f","census_ib.py":"6e2f281a27604d060ad4e4b42800964f9744d526db2e3882fb5797a9924d625d","check_ib.out":"44787c6242bfe4720a19acdc88fe479dc66f37512eeada05d5607b5201a5862b","pins_ib.json":"9d5a3b83de0787265bf4895b0f6d4ef0f2fd31de79db7d7f58fda5f38f06a8dc","prereg_ib.md":"b889a5c461d7449ad59b01749b5901b74afd8f3c599fbf8840acf5930163fcd2","recipe_ib.md":"f145a6d91aa6468aa46c69928ce3658b69f78cdd1ed508d17e3a3ff7f5cf3667","report_ib.md":"4662b71baae0fa568789176ee589588687df57758e5a5d1652b0523ddb34ad95","census_ib.out":"cfbbafccfd518ef420ecfa4d25d181093d2cb1d489c5f8c075e92b598a848483","witness_ib.py":"7cc2df57bd256d7526022f89004847aaadaabc4d09f803125bea6af4d46484e9","evidence_ib.md":"6a5814e22b1c3ec3e972da3fe7b475953753491eceb2583469295c53d7db75a3","witness_ib.out":"648ea56011639705eda513f82a72697c1e97425e74b7a4b0085589585d058163","prior_art_ib.md":"4124094f3e5ff19c64eee74455d26be695281b2bb260b0df2b864656dbbc1f5e","results_ib.json":"0a3f532a06654c0635cfe094857944ebd9144afc4fc22a087deb01c7612cfd2d","proposal_ib.json":"7db6fe45a5272586b07ea8f6d3cee8730bb6e4c47a58ac7db1119038ea0afd2c","transcript_ib.md":"68407e0ab473fe9bef9da4546677543e6653cfb62d6027012e43c7f0fa028990","next_step_ib.json":"bda51c393caea1d388135d2d353a88f698e2d0476a1ae7d50a45f4ba2a6fc80e","witnesses_ib.json":"f7280da066a071f27f53053f78e714542b61270589ce1d2a12371608a2a52030","check_ib.corrupt.all.out":"fc476604cdc9aeafa4ff954baf0256993d6f3b5fe53a55619d6f2cef5bf07907","check_ib.after-corrupt.out":"44787c6242bfe4720a19acdc88fe479dc66f37512eeada05d5607b5201a5862b"},"author_rung":"measured","status":"recorded","final_rung":"recorded","created_at":"2026-10-18T13:59:49.776Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":{"files":[],"handles":["Benjaminsen"],"returns":[3439,2472],"messages":[7488]},"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":0,"models":{},"output":0,"source":"none","entries":0,"cache_read":0,"unmeasured":"codebuff/freebuff session: this harness exposes no per-turn token counts; checked run-state.json and chat-meta.json, both have no usage fields","cache_write":0,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":"# Recipe — reproduce every number in `report_ib.md`\n\nAll commands run in the department folder with `python3` 3.11 and numpy 1.24.2 (the only library used).\nFiles are the ones attached to this return; no server call and no private input is needed.\n\n```bash\ncd <department folder> # the folder holding .solveathome/\nW=.solveathome/runs/<this run>/work # after unpacking the attachment\npython3 $W/census_ib.py # exact spectrum: h2, N_max, d5, top20, controls (~30 s)\npython3 $W/witness_ib.py # maximizer start positions, self-verified with gcd (~15 s)\npython3 $W/check_ib.py # 24 independent checks; expect 24 checks, 2 FAIL (=F1,F3)\npython3 $W/check_ib.py --corrupt all # expect: decisive 14/14, exit 0, data files restored\npython3 $W/check_ib.py # re-run: same 24 checks / 2 FAIL (restoration proof)\n```\n\nWhat each number is:\n\n1. `census_ib.py` builds, per rung `x ∈ {17,19,23}`, the boolean mask `a[m] = 1` iff\n `gcd(m, x#) = gcd(m+2, x#) = 1` over one full period `P = x#`, by marking `m ≡ 0 (mod p)` and\n `m ≡ −2 (mod p)` for every prime `p ≤ x`.\n2. The admissible positions are read out with `numpy.flatnonzero`; the **cyclic** gaps between\n consecutive admissible positions minus one are the run lengths. `L_max` is their maximum and\n `h2 = L_max + 1` (the wheel is periodic, so the run crossing `P` is counted once).\n3. `N_max` is the number of runs equal to `L_max`; `d5 = top1 − top5` of the sorted run lengths.\n4. The **matched-density control** draws a Bernoulli mask with `p = 1 − θ` (`θ = |A|/P` measured on the\n same rung) over the same period, in 8 Mi-position chunks, with frozen seeds `2026101800 + index +\n 1000·k`, `k = 0,1,2`; the reported number is its longest run of covered positions.\n5. `results_ib.json` carries `self_sha256` over its own body (`json.dumps(..., sort_keys=True,\n indent=1)` with `self_sha256` removed). Wall-clock timings are printed, not stored, so the hash is\n reproducible — two runs give `46fbfd448bd7848cd77e7367885127fb0495f5d5d629039660f836e790115c4e`.\n6. `witness_ib.py` records the start position (mod `P`) of every maximal run and checks, with plain\n `math.gcd`, that all `L_max` positions are non-admissible and the two boundary positions are\n admissible — 20 + 20 + 4 = 44 witnesses.\n7. `check_ib.py` shares no code with the producer: it rebuilds the masks with a pure-Python `bytearray`\n and re-derives `P`, `|A|`, `L_max`, `N_max`, `top5`; re-derives `|A|` from the exact product formula\n `P·∏(1 − ν_p/p)` with `ν_2 = 1`, `ν_p = 2` for `p ≥ 3`; re-verifies every witness with `gcd`;\n evaluates the pre-registered gates F1/F2/F3; and re-hashes the census body. `--corrupt k` mutates\n one field and requires the check set to change; `--corrupt all` runs 14 mutations and restores the\n pristine bytes afterwards.\n\nExpected base output (`check_ib.out`): `checks=24 FAIL=2`, the two FAILs being\n`A7` (`d5 ≤ 2` refuted at 23#) and `A9` (control ≥ 10× shorter — refuted; measured ratios 0.430,\n0.343, 0.445).
