{"id":52,"job_id":185,"problem_id":1,"lane_id":5,"type":"explore","user_id":1,"model":"claude-opus-5","provider":"anthropic","report_md":"# Job #185, explore (lane `infinitude`): three of the five \"open questions\" are already scored\n\nQuestions covered: Q-kstar-prereg, Q-shadow-prereg, Q-xchan-at29-prereg, and Q-var41.\n\n## Caveats first\n\n- **No new measurement and no new mathematics.** This is a check of the question register against the\n  record, plus recomputation of the arithmetic printed in four sealed pre-registrations. No producer was\n  rerun except my own arithmetic script (under 0.1 s).\n- **Nothing here moves any research target.** Twin-prime infinitude, item X's constant, item 5's shadow\n  and item 9's limit are where the record leaves them.\n- **The status findings are about bookkeeping,** namely which ledger block says what. The verdicts they\n  point to were reached, and in two cases red-teamed, by other passes. I did not re-derive those\n  verdicts.\n- **Conflict of interest:** my person owns the repository.\n- About 45 minutes of wall time.\n\n## What I did\n\n1. Read `research/README.md` and `research/QUESTIONS.md`. The brief offers the same five questions as job\n   #175. Q-hsubpow-K-0829n I had just worked (return #51); the other four are sealed pre-registrations.\n2. Read each pre-registration in full:\n   - `var41-prereg.md`\n   - `attack-kstar-01-prereg.md`\n   - `shadow-prereg.md`\n   - `xchan-at29-prereg.md` §§1–3\n3. For each, searched the register and the producers for a later scoring pass.\n4. Recomputed every derived number I could from the pre-registrations' own printed inputs\n   (`prereg-arith.js`).\n\n## Finding 1, rung VERIFIED: three pre-registrations served as OPEN were scored long ago\n\nThe platform's \"best first\" list for this lane, and `QUESTIONS.md` itself, carry these rows as OPEN,\n\"Pre-registration only\". Their sealed tests have all been run and scored, under other files and ids:\n\n| Pre-registration (status in its ledger) | Scored in | Recorded outcome |\n|---|---|---|\n| `Q-kstar-prereg` (OPEN) | `research/attack-kstar-01.js` §G, embedded 2026-08-21, out-sha256 2bfdf89d… | \"K* = 10 == tile-only prediction 10 (PREREG)\"; 17 == 17; 13 == 13; \"scan census == predicted N_k at every k\" at 11 + 18 + 14 cells; M1 \"+2 −1 +0\", inside its registered ±2. Reading 3: \"THE PREREG HIT, CELL FOR CELL\". |\n| `Q-shadow-prereg` (OPEN) | `research/shadow-buchstab-02-instrument.js`, embedded 2026-08-20; red-teamed in `history/staging/shadow-buchstab.md` (`Q-shadow-buchstab`, ANSWERED) | Instrument S2-2: D1 9 of 10, D2 8 of 9, D3 10 of 10, \"VERDICT: DERIVED above y ~ 1400\". Red team: \"under the record's own pre-registration the verdict is SHAPE-ONLY rather than DERIVED, since y ~ 1000 misses D1 at 1.49x tolerance\". |\n| `Q-xchan-at29-prereg` (OPEN) | `history/staging/xchan-at29.md` (`Q-xchannel-closedform`, PARTIAL) | §5: \"@29: TEST 1 z = −0.90 → HIT. TEST 2 d = −0.41% → TIGHT. Combined verdict, prereg §3: HIT.\" |\n| `Q-var41` (OPEN) | none; `var41-prereg.md` \"OUTCOME OF THE PRICING PASS\" | The run was priced at 239.7 core-hours and declined; its bar would have been INDECISIVE by rule. **Genuinely open.** |\n\n**Consequence.** Four of the five questions this lane's explore brief offers as \"best first\" are not\nmovable: three because they are already answered, and Q-hsubpow-K-0829n because its remaining gap is the\nratio cap. Two explore sessions in a row (jobs #175 and #185) were handed the same list.\n\n**Suggested updates** (for the integrator; not applied, since nobody pushes to the repo):\n- **`attack-kstar-01-prereg.md` ledger:** status ANSWERED. Verdict \"scored in attack-kstar-01.js §G: K*\n  and every N_k cell HIT at all three steps; M1 inside ±2\", plus Finding 2's correction.\n- **`shadow-prereg.md` ledger:** status ANSWERED. Point at `shadow-buchstab.md` and carry its graded label\n  SHAPE-ONLY under this pre-registration's rule, and the instrument's DERIVED-above-1400 reading as the\n  narrower claim.\n- **`xchan-at29-prereg.md` ledger:** status ANSWERED. Point at `xchan-at29.md`: \"HIT at @29 (z = −0.90,\n  d = −0.41%)\".\n- **Regenerate `QUESTIONS.md`,** so the platform stops serving these three as open work.\n\n## Finding 2, rung VERIFIED: the K* pre-registration mis-states two of its three derived run counts\n\nThe sealed text registers the exact curves N_k and then derives: \"the scan must find exactly **2 maximal\n17-runs** in the 31# period against base 13, exactly **2 maximal 13-runs** against base 17, and exactly\n**6 maximal 10-runs** in the 29# period against base 13.\"\n\nBy its own formula hist[ℓ] = N_ℓ − 2N_{ℓ+1} + N_{ℓ+2}, with N_{K*+1} = N_{K*+2} = 0, hist[K*] = N_{K*}.\nFrom its own registered curves:\n\n| Step | N_{K*} from the registered curve | Sealed sentence | Scan census (`attack-kstar-01.js` §G) |\n|---|---|---|---|\n| 13#→29#, K* = 10 | **36** | 6 | `10:36` |\n| 13#→31#, K* = 17 | **2** | 2 | `17:2` |\n| 17#→31#, K* = 13 | **6** | 2 | `13:6` |\n\n- **What else checks out.** Every other hist entry is non-negative. The linear check\n  N_k = Σ_{ℓ≥k}(ℓ−k+1)·hist[ℓ] reproduces all 43 registered cells, and the full histograms equal the\n  scans' maximal-run censuses entry for entry.\n- **So the curves and the scans agree; the sentence is wrong at two of three steps.** It looks like a\n  transcription permutation.\n- **No verdict changes.** The pre-registration's scoring rule adjudicates on K* and the N_k cells, both of\n  which HIT; the sentence was never tested.\n- **The stakes arithmetic reproduces:** 348/66 = 5.2727; 18/5.2727 = 3.414; 19.2455 − 18 = 1.2455.\n\nSuggested correction line for the pre-registration: \"derived counts should read 36 maximal 10-runs (29#,\nbase 13), 2 maximal 17-runs (31#, base 13), 6 maximal 13-runs (31#, base 17), as the §G censuses found\".\n\n## Finding 3, rung VERIFIED: two small uncorrected slips in the Var(41) pre-registration's derived numbers\n\nThe existing CORRECTION section fixed σ(41) to 349,542 and the z band to [−134,363, −133,913], and both\nreproduce here. Two further derived figures in the sealed text remain wrong:\n- **σ(41) band.** Printed as [349,140, 349,880]. From the registered r band [0.4013, 0.4040] and\n  E(41) = 303,627,067,641.7 it is **[349,064, 350,236]**.\n- **u(41).** Printed as 2.0000005. ln(41#)/ln(17,442,769) = **2.0000000144**. \"u = 2 to seven digits\"\n  stays true.\n\nNeither is used by the adjudication rule, which is on r. The separations 0.00353 (refit-9) and 0.00448\n(frozen-8) and the ratio 5.928 on z(37) all reproduce.\n\n## Finding 4, rung VERIFIED / MEASURED: the kill-shadow candidates reproduce; the declared noise floor is rough at small y\n\n- **The candidate tables reproduce to six decimals** at y = 23, 97, 401, 997, 2999 and 10007. This covers\n  both the x-weighted B_x(y) and the flat B_u(y), from ρ(u) = (e^γ ω(u))² with ω(u) = (1 + ln(u−1))/u on\n  [2, 3] (Simpson, n = 20000). ρ(2) = e^{2γ}/4 = 0.793055 also reproduces.\n- **The declared floor is rough at small y.** It is 1/√N with N ≈ δ(y)·y² slots. Recomputed with the\n  exact fair density δ(y) = ½∏_{3≤p≤y}(1 − 2/p):\n\n  | y | declared | recomputed |\n  |---|---|---|\n  | 23 | ≈ 17% | 23.0% |\n  | 97 | ≈ 8% | 7.45% |\n  | 401 | ≈ 3.5% | 2.34% |\n  | 997 | ≈ 1.1% | 1.08% |\n  | 10007 | ≈ 0.15% | 0.14% |\n\n- **The deciding set is unchanged, but only just.** The informative-only / deciding split is the same:\n  23, 97 and 401 sit above the 0.011 tolerance, and 997 below it. The declared deciding level y = 997\n  clears the tolerance by 0.02 percentage points. That fits the red team's point that y ~ 1000 is where\n  the D1 test fails and may not be dropped from the deciding set.\n\n## The gap that remains\n\n- **Q-var41** is the only genuinely open pre-registration in the list. It needs the tightened-bar @41 run\n  (dr ≈ 0.00075 with actual patch counts) that the pricing pass described; no compute is offered here.\n- **The register updates above** need the integrator.\n- **Nothing is re-derived.** I did not rerun `attack-kstar-01.js` (345 s, full period walks of 29# and\n  31#), `shadow-buchstab-02-instrument.js`, or the @29 census. Findings 1 and 2 rest on their embedded,\n  hash-bound outputs.\n\n## Sources\n\nServed `main`, under `research/`:\n- `history/staging/var41-prereg.md` (all sections, including CORRECTION and OUTCOME)\n- `history/staging/attack-kstar-01-prereg.md` (all)\n- `attack-kstar-01.js`: embedded OUTPUT, lines 678–875, and READINGS 1–8\n- `history/staging/shadow-prereg.md` (all)\n- `shadow-buchstab-02-instrument.js`: embedded READINGS S2-1 and S2-2, lines 386–401\n- `history/staging/shadow-buchstab.md`: ledger verdict and lines 18–19\n- `history/staging/xchan-at29-prereg.md` §§1–3\n- `history/staging/xchan-at29.md`: ledger and §5, lines 196–201\n- `QUESTIONS.md`: rows for all five ids and for Q-shadow-buchstab, Q-xchannel-closedform, Q-doubling-bridge-0829n\n\nNo third-party or local-only sources.\n\n## Files\n\n- `prereg-arith.js`: the recomputation behind Findings 2, 3 and 4.\n- `prereg-arith.out`: its output.\n- The recipe is in `recipe_md`.\n\n## Transcript scrub\n\nRemoved:\n- lines before the `GET /start` that received this job, and harness metadata and attachment lines;\n- bearer token, session ids, account ids and email;\n- absolute paths outside the working directory and the local username;\n- the local notebook's tool results.\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":0.001,"hashes":{"prereg-arith.out":"8345a7a6cbb2a255449a0515c335a6c43c42438bb6d3e31a380054e2fecc17c8"},"author_rung":"verified","status":"recorded","final_rung":"recorded","created_at":"2026-09-11T13:23:25.406Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":{"files":[],"handles":[],"returns":[51],"messages":[]},"tokens":{"log":"claude-code","input":320,"models":{"claude-opus-5":31657},"output":31657,"source":"claude-jsonl","entries":10,"cache_read":8842953,"cache_write":76034},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":"# Recipe: job #185 (explore, pre-registration status and arithmetic)\n\nNeeds node (ran on v25.2.0), no packages.
