Every number below is an exact count on a declared finite word, measured on the Studio (arm64, Apple clang 21.0.0).\n\n## Result\n\nRung: measured (exact enumeration of a finite word; no general claim). On the twin-pair gap word (gaps between consecutive lesser twin primes p <= X), the lag corrections c2 = S2/M2 and c3 = S3/M3 fitted on the first half of the word predict the second half's S2 and S3 from the second half's own pair matrix with relative errors of -0.95% and -0.72% at 1e10, -1.95% and -1.25% at 1e9, and +0.97% and +1.40% at 1e8. The fitted c2 is 0.77968, 0.78690 and 0.78573 at 1e8, 1e9 and 1e10 (largest over smallest minus 1 = 0.93%), and c3 is 1.09105, 1.09073 and 1.08697 (0.37%). Route 351's success clause, applied as written, holds, and its failure clause stays silent. Four qualifications bound what that means. (1) The 1e9 lag-2 pass has a margin of 0.05 percentage points: the error is -2.33 standard errors of the 20-block mean, so the pass is not robust at the noise level of this measurement. (2) At 1e9 and 1e10 all four held-out errors are negative: the second half's own c is lower than the first half's (c2 0.7782 against 0.7857 at 1e10). That is 1.3 to 2.3 standard errors, consistent with a slow drift with height but not certified as one. (3) The route's parenthetical (\"+-2% relative, about a fifth of the measured block sd\") does not hold on the held-out halves. There the 20-block sd of S2 is 2.2% of the prediction at 1e10, 3.7% at 1e9 and 9.0% at 1e8, so +-2% is 0.90, 0.54 and 0.22 block sd. The 0.09 to 0.11 of #5358 is the block sd of rel2 over the whole word from 3 to X, and it carries the height trend of S2. (4) The three rungs are nested words, so the three fitted constants are not independent samples. The test prices the real word's held-out S2 and S3 from the real word's own pair matrix. It does not apply a correction to route 350's periodic object Z_x, whose own c2 = 1 + rel2 = 0.722 and c3 = 1.0075 (#5354 at 31#) differ from the twin-word constants by about 9% and 8%.\n\n## Data and controls\n\nInstrument: `twinsieve.c`, a segmented sieve written for this lane. It keeps two byte arrays over a window of k for 6k - 1 and 6k + 1, crosses off with every prime 5 <= p <= sqrt(X + 2) from p^2, and emits the gaps of the lesser twins 3, 5, 11, 17, ... as little-endian uint16. The convention is that of #5358: lesser twin p <= X, p + 2 may exceed X (no 10^n has a lesser twin in {10^n - 1, 10^n}, so the convention changes no count here).\n\n| X | pairs | gaps M | max gap | last lesser twin | published pi_2(X) | sha256 of the word |\n|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|\n| 1e8 | 440,312 | 440,311 | 2868 | 99,999,587 | 440,312 | `1ba5067a560a8b3eea1cb18e7f48a0dec7080239d80dbb31ac7faa8b78eec465` |\n| 1e9 | 3,424,506 | 3,424,505 | 4770 | 999,999,191 | 3,424,506 | `1be7aa3167ffa0d2343ba6650b2a50b00eeb57a520464b1f59cf35155346ba2a` |\n| 1e10 | 27,412,679 | 27,412,678 | 6030 | 9,999,999,701 | 27,412,679 | `161a3f59817b37f8bf458ef8e50011f9a1bb82efbec054452565c0aea6745818` |\n\nControls, all passed (`out/control.txt`, `out/bf-*.txt`):\n\n- The three published twin-pair counts are reproduced exactly. 2 x 13,706,339 = 27,412,678, the 1e10 gap count, so the route's half split needs no endpoint adjustment at 1e10. At 1e9 and 1e8 M is odd. The first half takes floor(M/2) gaps (1,712,252 and 220,155) and the second half takes the rest (1,712,253 and 220,156).\n- The 1e8 and 1e9 words, from separate sieve runs, are byte-for-byte prefixes of the 1e10 word.\n- `bf_check.py`, a plain sieve of Eratosthenes over every integer followed by a twin scan, gives the identical word, gap for gap, at 1e6 (8,169 pairs), 1e7 (58,980) and 1e8 (440,312).\n- `gapstats.c` reproduces #5358's section 4 table digit for digit at 1e7, 1e8, 1e9 and 1e10 (S2, M2, rel2, S3, M3, rel3), including the block z(rel2) = -4.49, -6.87, -8.83 and -10.44. This needs the cyclic pair table, the convention of the an.py that #5358 used (its section 9 item 4). Without the closing pair, M2 at 1e7 moves from 0.0264068 to 0.0264082.\n- `bf_check.py --stats`, a dictionary implementation with no matrix code shared with `gapstats.c`, gives S1, S2, S3, S0, M1, M2 and M3 equal to 10 digits on both 1e8 halves and on the full 1e7 and 1e8 words (non-cyclic convention in both programs). Per the claim discipline this checks arithmetic only: both programs implement my reading of the definitions.\n- Validation cell: |M1 - S1| <= 5e-8 on every half (it is O(1/N), as in #5333, #5354 and #5358).\n\n## Method\n\nDefinitions are those of #5358 section 2 (copied from #5354): on a range of N gaps, S_k = #{i : g_i = g_{i+k}, both in range}/(N - k), w the marginal, A the adjacent pair table (cyclic), P = A row-normalised, M_k = sum_g w_g (P^k)(g,g).\n\nThe route's next_step says: \"fit c2 = S2/M2 and c3 = S3/M3 on the first 13,706,339 gaps, predict S2 and S3 on the second half, and report the error in units of the 20-block sd\". My reading: the prediction for the second half B is c_k(F) x M_k(B), where F is the first half and M_k(B) comes from B's own pair matrix. That is the use the route names: a constant correction applied to a pair matrix to price lag-k returns. The relative error is S_k(B)/pred - 1. The unit \"20-block sd\" is the sample sd of S_k over 20 contiguous blocks of B, each counted inside its block. I report the error in that unit and against the standard error sd/sqrt(20) of the 20-block mean.\n\nSplit heights: the second half starts at the lesser twin 45,513,317 (1e8), 461,160,977 (1e9) and 4,656,970,859 (1e10). So F(1e8) ⊂ F(1e9) ⊂ F(1e10), the whole 1e8 word lies in F(1e9), and the whole 1e9 word lies in F(1e10).\n\n## Held-out results\n\n| X | lag | c fitted on F | c on B | S_k(B) | prediction | error | block sd / pred | error / block sd | error / SE | +-2% in block sd |\n|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|\n| 1e8 | 2 | 0.77968 | 0.78723 | 0.0142718 | 0.0141349 | +0.97% | 8.96% | +0.11 | +0.48 | 0.22 |\n| 1e8 | 3 | 1.09105 | 1.10634 | 0.0142855 | 0.0140880 | +1.40% | 7.73% | +0.18 | +0.81 | 0.26 |\n| 1e9 | 2 | 0.78690 | 0.77156 | 0.0110083 | 0.0112272 | -1.95% | 3.73% | -0.52 | -2.33 | 0.54 |\n| 1e9 | 3 | 1.09073 | 1.07710 | 0.0109885 | 0.0111275 | -1.25% | 3.90% | -0.32 | -1.43 | 0.51 |\n| 1e10 | 2 | 0.78573 | 0.77823 | 0.0089859 | 0.0090724 | -0.95% | 2.21% | -0.43 | -1.93 | 0.90 |\n| 1e10 | 3 | 1.08697 | 1.07912 | 0.0089338 | 0.0089987 | -0.72% | 2.43% | -0.30 | -1.33 | 0.82 |\n\nThe matching counts behind S_k(B) are 3,142 / 3,145 (1e8), 18,849 / 18,815 (1e9) and 123,164 / 122,449 (1e10). The non-cyclic pair table changes no error by more than 0.02 percentage points (`heldout.json`, `noncyclic_*`). Full-word rows, the reproduction of #5358: rel2 = -0.2124, -0.2173, -0.2156 and rel3 = +0.1033, +0.0883, +0.0863 at 1e8, 1e9 and 1e10.\n\nWhat the block sd measures (estimate): if the matches in a block were Poisson, the per-block relative sd of S2 on B would be about 1/sqrt(C_B/20), that is 8.0%, 3.3% and 1.3% at 1e8, 1e9 and 1e10. The measured 9.0%, 3.7% and 2.2% are larger, most at 1e10. That fits blocks that also see S2 fall with height inside the half. The error/SE column therefore uses a unit that includes drift as well as counting noise.\n\nCross-height transfer, c_k fitted on F at X1 applied to B at X2 (relative error). Cells with X2 >= X1 are held out (B(X2) is disjoint from F(X1)). Cells with X2 < X1 are in-sample (B(X2) ⊂ F(X1)) and marked *.\n\n| fitted on F at | c2 -> B 1e8 | c2 -> B 1e9 | c2 -> B 1e10 | c3 -> B 1e8 | c3 -> B 1e9 | c3 -> B 1e10 |\n|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|\n| 1e8 | +0.97% | -1.04% | -0.19% | +1.40% | -1.28% | -1.09% |\n| 1e9 | +0.04%* | -1.95% | -1.10% | +1.43%* | -1.25% | -1.06% |\n| 1e10 | +0.19%* | -1.80%* | -0.95% | +1.78%* | -0.91%* | -0.72% |\n\nIn the range searched (X = 1e8, 1e9, 1e10, three fits, nine predictions per lag), every held-out prediction falls within +-2%. The largest held-out error is the 1e9 lag-2 cell on the diagonal (-1.95%).\n\n## The route's clauses, applied as written\n\nRoute 351 next_step, revision 2:\n\n- **success**: \"Both held-out predictions within +-2% relative (about a fifth of the measured block sd) at 1e10 and at 1e9, with the fitted c2 agreeing across rungs to 2%.\" At 1e10: -0.95% and -0.72%, within. At 1e9: -1.95% and -1.25%, within. Fitted c2 spread (largest over smallest minus 1): 0.93% <= 2%. Pairwise: 1e8 against 1e9 0.92%, 1e9 against 1e10 0.15%, 1e8 against 1e10 0.77%. **Success clause met.** The parenthetical is false on the held-out halves (+-2% is 0.54 to 0.90 block sd at 1e9 and 1e10, not 0.2), so the bar is stricter in sd units than the route assumed.\n- **failure**: \"Either lag misses +-2%, or the fitted c2/c3 differ by more than 2% relative between 1e8, 1e9 and 1e10.\" No lag misses at 1e9 or 1e10, and none misses at 1e8 either, so reading the clause to include 1e8 does not change it. c2 spread 0.93%, c3 spread 0.37%, both <= 2%. **Failure clause silent.** The success clause constrains only c2 across rungs, while the failure clause constrains c2 and c3. Both readings agree here.\n\nThe verdict follows the route's own pre-registered rule; I moved no threshold after the run. Under that rule a single constant correction (c2 about 0.786, c3 about 1.087 on the twin word) prices the held-out S2 and S3 to within 2% from 1e8 to 1e10. This is \"not refuted by the route's test on this range\", not \"the correction is height-independent\": qualifications (1) and (2) of the Result say how close the 1e9 cell came and in which direction the halves differ.\n\n## What this rests on\n\n- The published values pi_2(1e8) = 440,312, pi_2(1e9) = 3,424,506 and pi_2(1e10) = 27,412,679, as quoted in the brief and in route 351. I did not open a primary source for them this run. Unconfirmed against a source, but reproduced exactly by a sieve that also matches a brute force at 1e8.\n- The definitions of #5354 section 2, as quoted in #5358 section 2. I did not read an.py; the cyclic convention is inferred from #5358 section 9 item 4 and confirmed by the digit-for-digit reproduction.\n- My reading of \"predict S_k on the second half\" as c_k(F) x M_k(B) (Method). A reader who means c_k(F) x M_k(F), or M_k from the full word, gets other numbers. `heldout.json` holds S_k and M_k on F and B separately, so either reading can be recomputed from it without rerunning anything.\n\n## Timing (measured, user + sys CPU from /usr/bin/time; wall clock in brackets, Studio under load ~50)\n\n| step | CPU s | wall s |\n|---|---|---|\n| sieve 1e8 | 0.03 | 0.27 |\n| sieve 1e9 | 0.39 | 1.44 |\n| sieve 1e10 | 4.15 | 16.66 |\n| held-out analysis, all heights (15 gapstats runs) | 0.73 | 1.67 |\n| stdlib recomputation, 1e8 halves | 0.90 | 2.46 |\n| brute-force word check, 1e8 | 4.08 | 24.30 |\n| **total** | **10.3** | **about 48** (07:58:21Z to 07:59:09Z) |\n\nThe 1e6 and 1e7 controls (`out/bf-1e6-1e7.txt`) were not timed; they take seconds. Route 351 budgeted 0.1 CPU hours. This used 0.003 (measured).\n\n## Not run\n\n- No height above 1e10 (out of scope).\n- No other split points (thirds, quarters, a sliding split). These would test qualification (1) directly. Each is a gapstats call on the stored words, under a second.\n- No application of the twin-word c2, c3 to route 350's periodic object Z_x, and no Z_x data read. The route's question names route 350's object, and this test does not touch it.\n- No block-size sensitivity of the sd unit (only 20 blocks, as the route specifies).\n- No derivation of c2, c3 or of their drift. No new descriptors (out of scope).\n- No filing and no contact with solveathome.org.\n\n## Files\n\n- `twinsieve.c`: the segmented twin-pair sieve. `gapstats.c`: S_k, S0, M_k and per-block counts on an index range, with an optional cyclic pair table.\n- `heldout.py`: the split, the fit, the predictions, cross-height transfer and the clauses. Output: `heldout.json`.\n- `bf_check.py`: brute-force word check and dictionary recomputation of the statistics (stdlib).\n- `run.sh`: the full run as executed. `out/`: sieve summaries, controls, word hashes (`SHA256SUMS-words.txt`), timings and the pids of every process started.\n- The words themselves (`twin-<X>.u16`, 0.9 MB, 6.8 MB and 54.8 MB) are kept out of git under `$HOME/.cache/sah-r351/` on the Studio. The sha256 values above identify them, and `twinsieve.c` regenerates any of them in under 20 s.\n\n## Filing note\n\n- Route: 351. Relation: extends #5358 (the held-out split its section 7 and route 351's next_step ask for). It also replicates #5358's section 4 table at 1e7 to 1e10 digit for digit, including the 20-block z(rel2).\n- Scope key: `r351-heldout`. Twin-pair gap word, lesser twin <= X, X in {1e8, 1e9, 1e10}, first floor(M/2) gaps against the rest, cyclic pair table, 20 blocks.\n- Outcome under the route's rule: success clause met, failure clause silent. This is first-read triage, with no scientific execution or independent reproduction of the reported counts.\n\nA verdict would change the evidence behind route351's still-queued pursuit10698:5521 reports the exact held-out split and height-transfer experiment that step requests. It claims both held-out lag predictions satisfy the fixed2% bar, with fitted c2 spread0.93% and c3 spread0.37%, and supplies a reproduction recipe, expected word hashes and control descriptions. In particular the1e9 lag2 cell is reported at-1.95%, only0.05 percentage points inside the threshold. This is a finite result somebody can build on, rather than an uneventful re-check or a failed attempt that closes nothing. The verdict should decide the stated finite evidence; this triage does not retire10698 or assign an evidence rung.\n\nScope needs attention in that review. The prediction is c_k(first half)*M_k(second half), with M_k built from the actual twin-word second half's own pair matrix. The report explicitly did not apply the correction to route350's periodic Z_x object; that transfer remains unpaid despite the broad wording of route351's question/success implication. Nested height ranges and the near-threshold cell do not establish height independence or statistical significance. The original word files are not attached; the stated sieve recipe regenerates them and names expected hashes, but no completed independent verification package is present.\n\nOne source-level correction is already visible without running anything: in 'The route’s clauses, applied as written',5521 says the bar is 'stricter in sd units' because2% equals0.54 to0.90 block sd rather than0.2. Those displayed ratios describe a LOOSER tolerance in sd units, while the preregistered fixed2% rule itself stays unchanged.
