Spearman(half-width, sd D) is 0.259 / 0.632 / **0.727**\n(19# / 23# / 29#), so the width pairing passes at 29# only. Spearman(A/E, mean |D|) is **-0.557 / -0.752 / -0.347**,\nnegative at every rung, so the area pairing never passes. The failure clause (|Spearman(half-width, spread)| < 0.3\nat 29#) is not triggered: the value is 0.727. Two post-hoc observations, labelled as such and not verdict inputs:\n(i) the *scale* of the width is set by D: 1.1774 sd(D), the half-width at half maximum of a Gaussian with D's sd,\nmatches the mean measured half-width at every rung (5.62 vs 5.40, 8.44 vs 8.39, 17.09 vs 17.76 slots), and this\nexplains #5476's \"spreading\" across rungs; (ii) the area does not follow mean |D|. It follows the number of\nequal-gap coincidences the shift `kP/p` carries over (Spearman 0.900 / 0.971 / 0.987), and that number depends\non `p` and `k`, not on D. Rung: finite exact computation (measured), with an exact lemma (proved below)\nthat writes D as a residue-class count. Nothing here bears on real twin primes, G2, or any bound.\n\n## 1. Objects (as pre-registered in `PREREGISTRATION.md`, commit c7dc580, before any D value was computed)\n\n`P = x#`, slots `S = {n mod P : gcd(n(n+2), P) = 1}`, `N = |S|`, cyclic gap word `g_i`. For a prime `7 <= p <= x`\nand `k <= 3`: `T = kP/p` and `D(n) = #{slots in (n, n+T]} - kN/p`. `count(h) = #{i mod N : g_i = g_{i+h}}`,\n`E = M/(N-1)`, `M = sum_L c_L(c_L - 1)` (#5456). Centre `h0 = round(kN/p)`. The half-width and the area are\n#5476's own definitions (`area_buffy21.py`): the half-width is the least `d in 1..40` with\n`count(h0+d) - E < (count(h0) - E)/2`, and `A/E = sum_{|d|<=40}(count(h0+d) - E)/E`.\n\nPopulations of `n`: **all n** in one period (the route's definition, primary), **slot n** (`n = s_i`), and the\ndiagnostic **kept** set: slots `i` whose image `s_i + T` is a slot `s_j` with `g_j = g_i`. Each kept slot is an\nequal-gap coincidence at lag `j - i = c(s_i)`, so its offset histogram is the shift's direct prediction of the\npeak.\n\n## 2. A lemma: D is a residue-class count\n\n**Lemma.** Let `Q = P/p`, `N' = N/(p-2)` (the number of `r mod Q` with `gcd(r(r+2), Q) = 1`). For every integer `n`,\n\n    #{slots in (n, n+T]} = kN' - B(n),   B(n) = #{m in (n, n+T] : gcd(m(m+2), Q) = 1, m = 0 or -2 mod p},\n\nand so `D(n) = 2kN'/p - B(n)`.\n\n*Proof.* `T = kQ`, so `(n, n+T]` holds exactly `k` integers in each class mod `Q`. An integer `m` is a slot\nif and only if `gcd(m(m+2), Q) = 1` and `m mod p` is not in `{0, p-2}` (CRT, `P = Qp`, `gcd(Q, p) = 1`). Counting the\n`kN'` integers of the interval that are admissible mod `Q` and subtracting those in the two bad classes mod `p`\ngives `kN' - B(n)`. Finally `kN/p = kN'(p-2)/p = kN' - 2kN'/p`. QED.\n\nSo `D(n)` measures how far the admissible-mod-`Q` integers in a window of `k` periods of `Q` fall in the two\nclasses the prime `p` removes, against their mean share `2/p`. The identity is also checked at every `n` of one\nperiod at 11#, 13#, 17# (`check_small.py`, 27 entries, all pass).\n\n## 3. Method\n\n`dpass.c` (C, one thread). Slot word by a CRT wheel (residues mod 2, then mod `2*3`, ..., each list made in sorted\norder). That shares no code with #5476's sieve (`word_buffy21.py`, read for comparison only, not run). The last\nprime streams straight into a `uint16` gap word, so no int64 slot array is stored. For each `(p, k)`, one\ntwo-pointer pass over the cyclic word gives the exact histogram of `c(n) = #{slots in (n, n+T]}` over all `n`\n(weighted by run length), over the slots, and over the kept slots. Then `count(h0+d)` for `|d| <= 40`, blocked.\n`analyse.py` (stdlib) forms every D statistic with exact rationals, then the peak shapes, the Spearmans\n(average ranks) and the controls and side checks. `run.sh` holds the exact commands. Outputs are in `out/`,\n`analysis.json` and `tables.md`.\n\n## 4. Controls (acceptance), all pass (225 checks)\n\n- `N = prod_{3<=q<=x}(q-2)`: 378,675 / 7,952,175 / 214,708,725; the gaps sum to `P` at each rung.\n- `sum_n D(n) = 0` over a period at every `(p, k)`, checked as the exact integer identity\n  `sum_n c(n) = N T` with total weight `P`, and again as an exact rational mean of 0 in the analyser.\n- `M` agrees with the gap histogram; the slot-population weight is `N`.\n- Brute force at 11#, 13#, 17# (`check_small.py`: gcd slot test, direct `D(n)` at every `n`, direct\n  `count(h)`): every histogram and every window count equals `dpass` output (27 entries).\n\n## 5. Tables\n\nFull 15/18/21-entry tables, with range, IQR, slot-n and kept columns, are in `tables.md`. Summary:\n\n| rung | entries | Spearman(hw, sd D) | perm p | Spearman(A/E, mean abs D) | perm p | mean hw | mean 1.1774 sd D |\n|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|\n| 19# | 15 | +0.259 | 0.35 | -0.557 | 0.033 | 5.40 | 5.62 |\n| 23# | 18 | +0.632 | 0.005 | -0.752 | 0.0005 | 8.39 | 8.44 |\n| 29# | 21 | **+0.727** | 0.0004 | -0.347 | 0.12 | 17.76 | 17.09 |\n\nThe permutation p-values (`perm_spearman.py`, 20,000 seeded pairings, post-hoc) treat entries as exchangeable.\nThey are not independent (the three `k` of one `p` share structure), so read the p-values as indicative only.\n\nSecondary spreads at 29#: Spearman(hw, IQR D) = 0.762, (hw, range D) = 0.443, (hw, sd D over slots) = 0.727.\n\n### Verdict, the route's clauses as written\n\n| clause | 19# | 23# | 29# | verdict |\n|---|---|---|---|---|\n| success: Spearman(hw, spread) >= 0.7 | no (0.259) | no (0.632) | yes (0.727) | one rung |\n| success: Spearman(A/E, mean abs D) >= 0.7 | no (-0.557) | no (-0.752) | no (-0.347) | no rung |\n| success needs both at two rungs | | | | **not met** |\n| failure: abs Spearman(hw, spread) < 0.3 at 29# | | | 0.727 | **not triggered** |\n\nThe route's wording asks for \"the 21 entries at two rungs\"; 21 entries exist only at 29# (`p <= x`). The\nclauses were applied to the 15 and 18 entries 19# and 23# have, as pre-registered.\n\nSo the route's question, \"the spreading is discrepancy-driven, and the amplitude is settled by a computable\nquantity\", is **not certified at these three rungs**. The width part is partly supported; the area part, in the\nform the route states it, is contradicted in sign at all three rungs.\n\n## 6. Post-hoc observations (not verdict inputs)\n\n1. **sd(D) is one quantity three ways.** sd over all `n`, over slots and over the kept set agree to within\n   0.016, 0.011, 0.008 (all-n vs slot-n) and 0.086, 0.031, 0.026 (all-n vs kept) at 19#, 23#, 29#. Mean |D| / sd\n   lies in 0.79 to 0.84 (the Gaussian value is 0.798). So mean |D| is a second spread statistic, not an\n   area statistic. The route's two pairings test the spread twice.\n2. **The width's scale is D's.** Measured half-width minus 1.1774 sd(D): mean -0.22, -0.05, +0.67 slots; mean\n   absolute difference 1.83, 1.00, 2.83, for mean half-widths 5.40, 8.39, 17.76. The kept-set offset histogram's own\n   half-width (`tables.md`, last column) is within 4 slots of the measured one at 19 of the 21 29# entries; the two\n   exceptions are the lowest-excess entries, `p = 7, k = 2` (12 measured, 27 kept) and `k = 3` (10 vs 17). The rank\n   correlation stays weaker than the scale agreement, because the measured half-width is a one-sided, integer,\n   first-crossing statistic, and for entries with small excess the count noise is close to the excess. For\n   example, #5476's 29# control lags have sd of rho 0.0059, while `p = 7, k = 3` has rho0 - 1 = 0.0084.\n   The cross-rung growth #5476 reported (own prime 4 -> 6 -> 16) goes with the growth of sd(D) (3.60 -> 5.07 -> 13.70\n   for `k = 1` at the own prime).\n3. **The area follows the kept count, not D.** Spearman(A/E, kept coincidences within 40 / E) = 0.900, 0.971, 0.987.\n   This is partly built in, since the kept coincidences are a subset of the counted ones. The kept fraction\n   `gap_kept / N` ranges 0.19 to 0.86 across entries and rises with `p` (Spearman(A/E, p) = 0.69, 0.73, 0.86). A\n   wider D spread moves part of the peak outside the `W = 40` window (at 29#, as little as 97.6% of the kept mass\n   lies within 40). That gives the negative sign of the area pairing as a plausible mechanism, not a proved one.\n\n## 7. Side checks (63, all pass)\n\n- **#5476 resonance entries, from this lane's own slot set.** All seven `k = 1` peaks at 29#: the 81 window\n  counts equal #5476's `area_29.json` exactly, and so do the half-widths (20, 14, 15, 23, 17, 9, 16) and\n  A/E (1.6424 ... 3.4123). All 21 `res_29.json` centre counts and their +-2 windows are equal exactly. For\n  example `p = 23, k = 1`: count 33,161,337, rho0 1.22413, half-width 9, A/E 3.412.\n- **#5456 lag-profile points.** `count(1) = 36,871` at 19# (rho(1) = 0.644888) and `M = 21,650,399,038` exactly.\n  All 33 `p >= 7` resonance values at 19# and 23# (`resonance_buffy16.json`, 4 decimals) agree to 5e-5, at the\n  same lags, for example rho(2N/19) = 1.42363 at 19#.\n\n## 8. CPU time (measured, getrusage; Studio, `nice -n 10`, one process; load average was about 69)\n\n| step | 19# | 23# | 29# |\n|---|---|---|---|\n| CRT wheel build | 0.001 s | 0.014 s | 0.38 s |\n| D passes, all entries | 0.05 s | 0.92 s | 27.2 s |\n| peak windows (81 lags per entry) | 0.04 s | 0.83 s | 26.1 s |\n| process total | 0.14 s | 1.86 s | 54.0 s |\n\nOther steps: brute-force check at 17# 10.1 s user, at 11# and 13# under 1 s; analyser 0.23 s; permutation test\n2.7 s. **Total about 70 CPU seconds** (measured). The wall time of `run.sh` was 4.5 min because the machine was loaded.\nThe route priced 0.5 cpu-h (estimate); the measured cost is about 0.02 cpu-h.\n\n## 9. What was not run\n\n- No rung above 29#. No `p <= 5`, no `k > 3`.\n- No alternative half-width definition (two-sided, interpolated, or a fit), and no window other than `W = 40`.\n  The verdict uses #5476's definitions only.\n- No null for the Spearman beyond the post-hoc permutation test, and no model of the dependence between the `k`\n  of one `p`.\n- The amplitude law itself (the height rho0 from D and the kept count) was not derived, and the mechanism in\n  §6.3 is not proved.\n- #5476's full-profile band-mean |z| clause (2 to 6 cpu-h, its estimate) was not run here (out of scope).\n- Served code (`word_buffy21.py`, `res_buffy21.py`, `compute_buffy16.py`) was read for comparison only, not run.\n\n## What this rests on\n\nThe lemma in §2 (proved here). Exact integer computation by `dpass.c`, checked against brute force at three small\nrungs, and against #5476 and #5456 served counts at all three target rungs. The definitions of half-width and area\nare #5476's, taken from its served `area_buffy21.py` (sha256 `573dd463...`, served file list) and\n`PREREGISTRATION_buffy21.md` (sha256 `6e07e12a...`, matches TRIAGE H14).\n\n## Filing note\n\n- Route **357**. Scope key **`r357-discrepancy`**.\n- Return **#5476**: extends (the 21-entry tables at 19#, 23#, 29#, of which #5476 had 7 shapes at 29# plus two;\n  all of #5476's 29# shape and resonance counts reproduced exactly).\n- Return **#5456**: bears_on (its 19# and 23# resonance values and rho(1) reproduced from an independent slot\n  construction).\n- Outcome against the route: success clause not met (area pairing negative at all rungs; width pairing >= 0.7 only\n  at 29#); failure clause not triggered (0.727 at 29#). The post-hoc scale agreement (§6.2) is the candidate next step:\n  pre-register \"half-width = 1.1774 sd(D) +- 3 slots\" and test it at 31#.\n- Cheapest decisive check: the 29# Spearman for half-width.
