{"id":5580,"job_id":11300,"problem_id":1,"lane_id":null,"type":"measure","user_id":103,"model":"claude-opus-5-5","provider":"anthropic","report_md":"# Route 171: #5368's heavy-rung unit rerun with our own driver; its amendment's equivalence check fails on its own record (2.061 se at L = 6), so the unit is inconclusive\n\n## Result\n\n**Obstruction, measured, and the decision is inconclusive.** The equivalence check of #5368's\n`AMENDMENT_10575_1.md` fails as written, on #5368's own served record. The amendment says the\nsharded and served-sequential control means at gate_C must agree within 2 se at every bin with\npooled mean >= 5. #5368's `equivalence_gate_C.json` gives **2.061 se at L = 6**, over the bar.\nThis rerun's 10 x 100 `SeedSequence([20260927, j])` shards reproduce #5368's sharded means exactly.\nThat holds on numpy 2.4.6 (Studio) and on numpy 2.5.2 (chimaera), so they are the same draws, and\nrecomputing from them gives the same 2.061 se. The amendment's own consequence: \"If the check\nfails, the heavy rungs report `control_incomplete: true` and are not interpreted.\" So under the\npre-registration as written, Q5, H and K510 cannot decide H_Q against H_not, whatever they show.\nThe route head ruled on 2026-10-23 that the remaining 20 heavy shards are not run. Two timing\nshards ran (H s0, K510 s0) and price the full rerun at about 3.9 CPU h on chimaera (estimate).\n\nThe failed check is not evidence that the two samplers differ. Both are the same served\n`null_draws` routine, `default_rng(seed).choice(n, k, replace=False)`, with different seeds. Both\npass the pre-registration's 3 se exact-mean location check at every powered bin: worst 2.743 se\nfor the sharded stream and 1.231 se for the sequential one. The check makes eleven comparisons\n(7 bins and 4 headline means) at a 2 se bar each. For identical samplers and independent\ncomparisons, the chance that at least one fails is 1 - 0.9545^11 = 0.40. The comparisons are\ncorrelated, so this figure is a guide only. The\nobstruction is to the pre-registered unit as written, not to the |Q| question. A successor needs a\nnew pre-registration with an equivalence criterion that controls the family-wise error, or one\nthat uses the exact-mean location check alone.\n\n**This is an independent rerun with the department's own driver.** The served combiner\n`run_unit_10575.py`, the shard worker `shard_worker_10575.py` and the detached Q5/H/K510 records\nwere never served (head ruling, 2026-10-23). No served page carries them. `r171.py` is new code: a\nshard worker, a combiner, the control, the equivalence check and the decision rule. Every\nmeasurement calls the served instrument `law_ce8060.py` of #5309 unchanged (sha256\n`c8dc132001b6fc000ca5f94e5f52abab2f09a6ed6d6763d597e8921b630898cd`, checked at every load).\n\n## What was established\n\n### 1. Control: the combiner reproduces the served records field for field\n\n`r171.py control` reruns each served cheap rung and both gates with the served sequential seed\n20260927. It builds the record with the combiner and compares every field with #5368's served\nrecord, except the timing and provenance fields (`seconds`, `wall_seconds`, `driver`,\n`per_bin_note`). The per-bin pruning rule had to be inferred: drop a bin when any statistic is\nnon-finite, which happens when `exact_window_mean` overflows at large L. It matches every served\nrecord's last bin.\n\n| rung | n | k | draws | Studio (numpy 2.4.6) | chimaera (numpy 2.5.2) |\n|---|---|---|---|---|---|\n| Q1_13 | 1,755 | 270 | 1000 | identical | identical |\n| Q1_17 | 2,295 | 270 | 1000 | identical | identical |\n| Q1_19 | 2,565 | 270 | 1000 | identical | identical |\n| Q2_1317 | 29,835 | 7,560 | 1000 | identical | identical |\n| gate_C | 566,865 | 188,190 | 1000 | identical | identical |\n| gate_F | 13,037,895 | 5,085,720 | 400 | identical | identical |\n\ngate_F and gate_C are #1970's anchors. Both reproduce exactly: gate_F `N3 = 270,974`,\n`Nge3 = 360,332`, `T = 0.058557108444434576`, hist `{3:270974, 4:68258, 5:16984, 6:3382, 7:618,\n8:88, 9:20, 10:8}`, with the full null and per-bin table. A second check feeds the same Q2_1317\ndraws to the served `law_ce8060.run_rung` itself and gets the combiner's record field for field.\nSo the post-processing is a faithful copy, independent of the RNG. Records:\n`control/studio/` (all records, the per-draw `*_seq.json`, `control_report.json`) and\n`control/chimaera/control_report.json`.\n\n### 2. Equivalence at gate_C: the same draws as #5368, and the 2 se check fails\n\n`r171.py equiv` draws the amendment's sharded schedule, 10 x 100 from\n`SeedSequence([20260927, j])` for j = 0..9. It also draws the served sequential stream (1000,\nseed 20260927) and the exact linear-window mean, then applies the amendment's tests\n(`control/studio/equivalence_gate_C_rerun.json`). The sharded means equal #5368's\n`equivalence_gate_C.json` at all 7 bins to its 3 printed decimals, and so do the N3 mean\n(9255.091) and the T mean (0.11008684414888). On chimaera's numpy 2.5.2 the same equality holds\n(`control/chimaera/equivalence_gate_C_means_numpy252.json`).\n\n| L | sharded - served (se) | sharded - exact (se) | served - exact (se) | #5368 record (absolute values) |\n|---|---|---|---|---|\n| 3 | -0.089 | -0.165 | -0.034 | 0.089, 0.165, 0.034 |\n| 4 | -0.850 | -0.514 | 0.686 | 0.85, 0.514, 0.686 |\n| 5 | -0.112 | -1.247 | -1.063 | 0.112, 1.247, 1.063 |\n| 6 | **-2.061** | -2.743 | 0.197 | **2.061**, 2.743, 0.197 |\n| 7 | 0.742 | 0.915 | -0.117 | 0.742, 0.915, 0.117 |\n| 8 | -0.231 | 0.879 | 1.231 | 0.231, 0.879, 1.231 |\n| 9 | 0.703 | 1.334 | 0.334 | 0.703, 1.334, 0.334 |\n\nThe headline means (N3, T, Nge3, Nge5) agree within 2 se; the largest is Nge3 at -1.00 se. The\nbin criterion fails at L = 6. #5368's 10x-power record (`equivalence_gate_C_10x.json`, served\ndraws that I did not rerun) has a sharded-vs-served maximum of 2.59 se at L = 8, so the extra power\ndid not bring it under 2. #5368 reported the registered-power comparison as \"consistent with\nidentical samplers\". As a reading of the samplers that is fair. As the amendment's pass/fail test,\nit is a fail.\n\n### 3. The decision rule, as fixed before any heavy number\n\n`DECISION_READING.md` fixes how the open points of `PREREGISTRATION_10575.md` are read. Its body\nwas committed in 72d7b04, and its addendum was written at 08:10Z, before any heavy-rung draw\nfinished. `r171.py decide` implements it. On the inputs that exist, the outcome is\n**inconclusive**, for three independent reasons:\n\n1. the interpretation gate fails (section 2);\n2. no heavy rung is complete: 1 of 6 H shards, 1 of 8 K510 shards and 0 of 8 Q5 shards ran;\n3. the |Q|=1 end is unpowered. Q1_13, Q1_17 and Q1_19 have null means below 5 at every bin and\n   for Nge5, which is the pre-registration's own example of \"Neither\".\n\nEven with the gate waived, the outcome stays inconclusive (sensitivity entry in `decision.json`),\nbecause of reasons 2 and 3. The published classes that are powered still behave as #5309 found:\n|Q|=2 below |Q|=3 below |Q|=4, disjoint in r_T and r_N3, and within-class r_T spread 0.041 below\nthe smallest gap of 0.124. These are #5309's numbers, not new measurements.\n\n## Measured cost (CPU time, measured unless marked estimate)\n\n| step | where | CPU s | note |\n|---|---|---|---|\n| env probe | chimaera, gpud #767 | about 1 | uv numpy fails there; nix-shell used after HEAD-NOTES item 9 |\n| equivalence, means only | chimaera, gpud #788 | 11.4 | control draws |\n| control smoke (4 cheap rungs) | Studio | 0.8 | process total |\n| control, 6 rungs | Studio | 126.5 | sum of control-draw CPU; 8 min wall at nice 10, ended 08:09Z |\n| control, 6 rungs | chimaera, gpud #802 | 191.6 | sum of control-draw CPU |\n| equivalence, amendment test | Studio | 14.6 | control draws |\n| H s0, 67 draws | chimaera, gpud #790 | 792.9 | 11.83 s per draw, peak RSS 3,598 MB |\n| K510 s0, 50 draws | chimaera, gpud #791 | 390.4 | 7.81 s per draw, peak RSS 3,006 MB |\n| **total** | | **about 1,530 (0.43 CPU h)** | |\n\nKill-word builds in the controls and the `decide` run add seconds. On this hardware chimaera's\ngate_F control costs 0.455 s per draw, against 2.61 s per draw in #5368's served gate_F record.\n\n## What was not run\n\n| item | draws | CPU (estimate) | basis |\n|---|---|---|---|\n| H s1..s5 | 335 | 1.10 h | measured 11.83 s per draw on chimaera |\n| K510 s1..s7 | 350 | 0.76 h | measured 7.81 s per draw on chimaera |\n| Q5 s0..s7 | 400 | about 2.0 h | H's rate scaled by k (163.4M vs 105.2M), which fits the K510-to-H ratio; #5368 measured 55.49 s per draw on its own machine |\n| combine of Q5, H, K510 | | under 0.05 h | the Q5 build took 45.7 s at #5368 |\n| **total** | 1,085 | **about 3.9 CPU h** | estimate |\n\nPeak RSS per shard: H 3.6 GB and K510 3.0 GB (measured); Q5 about 4.9 GB (#5368's probe). With\n25% headroom, a rerun books `--ram` of 4,500, 3,800 and 6,200 MB, one shard per gpud job, each\nwell inside 3 h. The command is `sh gpud/make_stage.sh`, then from `gpud/`:\n`mirage gpu run --cpu --project solveathome-twin-primes --threads 1 --for 1h --ram <MB> --in stage\n--out 'out/*' -- sh stage/job.sh shard <tag> <j> <draws> --out out --label r171-<tag>-s<j>`,\nthen `r171.py combine <tag> --shards shards --out rungs` and `r171.py decide`. The about 17 CPU h\nquoted earlier in the lane came from #5368's slower machine and is superseded by this row.\n\n## Deviations and custody\n\n- **H draws.** The layout is 6 x 67 = 402 draws. That is #5368's launched layout and route 171's\n  next_step. The pre-registration table says 400, with \"never fewer\"; 402 meets the floor and\n  differs from the table by 2 draws. Only s0 ran.\n- **Driver hash.** The staged copy of `r171.py` that ran H s0 and K510 s0 is an earlier revision of\n  this file, without the `driver_sha256` field and the later decide fixes. Its shard code path is\n  identical to the committed one, and the shard records carry `n`, `k`, `seed` and `draws`, which\n  the combiner checks against the pre-registered list.\n- **Seeds.** Both shards run carry `seed = [20260927, 0]`, the pre-registered seed of shard 0\n  (`AMENDMENT_10575_1.md`).\n- **Numpy.** The served records do not say which numpy produced them. The control matches them\n  field for field under numpy 2.4.6 (CPython 3.11.15, Studio, through `uv run --offline`) and under\n  numpy 2.5.2 (CPython 3.14.7, chimaera, nix-shell `python3.withPackages (ps: [ ps.numpy ])`). So\n  the results here do not depend on the version between those two.\n- **Served code check (HEAD-NOTES item 3).** `law_ce8060.py` was read in full. It does no network\n  access and no shell-outs. Its only write is `ladder_ce.json` in `main()`, which `r171.py` never\n  calls. On chimaera it ran only inside gpud jobs.\n- **Studio timing holds.** Everything that ran on the Studio ended before 08:10Z. Nothing ran in\n  the 09:00Z to 10:00Z hold. `decide` (under a second) ran after 10:00Z.\n\n## What this rests on\n\n- Return #5368: `PREREGISTRATION_10575.md`, `AMENDMENT_10575_1.md`, `equivalence_gate_C.json`,\n  `equivalence_gate_C_10x.json`, the six cheap records (`research/sah-state/2026-10-23/attachments/05368/`,\n  sha256 checked against `SHA256SUMS.txt`).\n- Return #5309: `law_ce8060.py` and `ladder_ce8060.json` (`.../attachments/05309/`, sha256 checked).\n- No theorem is used. The finite claims (field-identical records, the se values) are checked by\n  running the code above; none of them is a general statement.\n\n## Files\n\n- `r171.py`: the shard worker, combiner, control, equivalence and decision subcommands.\n- `DECISION_READING.md`: the reading of the decision rule, with the addendum written before any heavy number.\n- `decision.json`: `r171.py decide` on the inputs that exist.\n- `control/studio/`, `control/chimaera/`: the control and equivalence records.\n- `shards/H_s0.json`, `shards/K510_s0.json`: the two shards run (per-draw values).\n- `gpud/job.sh`, `gpud/make_stage.sh`: the gpud job wrapper and its stage builder.\n\n## Filing note\n\n- **Route:** 171. **Scope key:** `r171-collapse`.\n- **Links:** #5368, relation `replicates` (its cheap rungs, both gates and its sharded gate_C\n  equivalence draws, reproduced exactly) and `bears_on` (its `AMENDMENT_10575_1.md` equivalence\n  check fails as written on its own record, so its heavy rungs are `control_incomplete` under\n  its own rule). #5309, `bears_on` (its instrument was used unchanged; its anchors are reproduced).\n- **Outcome for the route question:** inconclusive. The pre-registered unit cannot decide H_Q\n  against H_not as written. The |Q|-collapse question stays open.\n- **Cheapest decisive check:** recompute the L = 6 gate from #5368's `equivalence_gate_C.json`.\n  Its `bins[3]` reads `shard_vs_served_se = 2.061 > 2`, and the record shows\n  `max_shard_vs_served = 2.061`. From the draws themselves,\n  `python3 -I r171.py equiv --out <dir>` reproduces it in about 15 CPU s (needs numpy).\n- **Not run:** 20 heavy shards, about 3.9 CPU h (estimate), stopped by the head's ruling.\n\n\n## Filing\n\nFiles under subdirectories are attached with `/` flattened to `__`; files whose extension the server refuses are attached with `.txt` appended. Restore both before running the recipe.\n\n## Notes for the reader\n\n- The K510 comparison band in `r171.py` (BAND_2310_Q3) adds B1 to the pre-registration's C, K3a and K3b, and only that band is computed. It has no effect here because K510 is not interpreted. Anyone reusing `decide` on a complete K510 rung should compute the band both with and without B1.\n- The K510 n used is 282,291,075 = 22,275 x 12,673, with 12,673 = 19*23*29 per the pre-registration's own definition n = |T_P| * prod Q. The pre-registration's table (M = 12697, n = 282,825,675) has an arithmetic slip.\n- `r171.py control --only <rung>` rewrites control_report.json with only that rung. The committed report is the full six-rung run.
