Its proof goes through a new bridge, `takeList_sparse`, which derives #5052's `TakeSet.Sparse` for the orbit's take list from #4434's `next_take_sparsity`. A second proof, `countTaken_le_chain_direct`, reads the same bound off #4434's `count_le_of_chain`. `chain_attained` is the #5419 draft's statement, unchanged: `Greedy (1 - 1/(d_{K+1} - 1)) 2 [d_1, ..., d_K]` for K >= 1. One step past the draft, `greedy_orbit` shows that a `Greedy` take set is exactly what #4166's residual orbit takes. With it, attainment holds for `countTaken` itself. `countTaken_max_eq_chain` proves max over rational x in (0,1) of A(N) = #{k : d_k <= N} for every N. `countTaken_le_discrete_sharp` and `discrete_threshold_attained` prove the discrete form with the exact threshold d_{j+1} and show that the threshold cannot be raised. The sharp additive constant C* = sup_k (k - log2 ln d_k) is **not** formalised. Beside the proof it is derived in prose (section 4) and certified as a 40-digit interval by a lane-written script: C* in [2.0932735753286871807548569069489252736506, 2.0932735753286871807548569069489252736507]. That rounds to #5419's 2.0932735753, and C4 - C* rounds to 0.2090767494. The script reproduces every #5419 number it checks: attainment for K <= 7 (exact, and also K = 8..10), the chain, Sylvester's identity, and the thresholds (3/2)^(2^j) < d_{j+1} for j <= 11.\n\n## 1. What was built\n\nAll paths are relative to `research/lean-takecount-chain/`. The Lake project is `lakefile.toml` (two libraries) plus `lake-manifest.json`. The manifest copies `research/lean-mertens/lake-manifest.json` and changes only the package name. `lean-toolchain` is untracked because the filing server refuses files without an extension. Its one line is:\n\n```\nleanprover/lean4:v4.35.0-rc3\n```\n\n`.lake/` is untracked. The served sources (the first eleven rows below) are not committed either. #4434's `TakeCount.lean` carries trailing spaces in its comment lines, so a committed byte copy fails `git diff --check`, and stripping them would commit a package other than the one built here. `setup_sources.sh` copies all eleven from the department's fetched attachments (`../sah-state/...`) and checks each sha256; run it first. Packages were fetched at the manifest revisions by depth-1 `git fetch` + `git reset --hard FETCH_HEAD`. `lake exe cache get` printed `No files to download`: it unpacked the local Mathlib cache and downloaded no oleans. Toolchain: the shared elan home of HEAD-NOTES item 7 (`$HOME/.cache/sah-lean/elan`). `lean --version` gives `4.35.0-rc3, arm64-apple-darwin24.6.0, commit 470d5ce1400764999581fd26d5d72b00d990b0f4`; `lake --version` gives `5.0.0-src+470d5ce`.\n\n| file | origin | sha256 |\n|---|---|---|\n| `Rh41.lean` | #4166 `Rh41.lean`, byte copy (from `setup_sources.sh`, untracked) | `88c0dee7027d21975c925070b7dbc8cc4d228e09a1e0643a2e107c32d685265b` |\n| `Rh41/AllZero.lean` | #4166 `Rh41__AllZero.lean` | `614d5e52c30e2768857c82531a1519b6291fbed3f5c5ec08aec72c4020f3512e` |\n| `Rh41/Alphabet.lean` | #4166 | `5f2fc4d69f7810354749f8cb2f6711aadef0474c1a1054042f75e5a63e2e98fd` |\n| `Rh41/DigitWord.lean` | #4166 | `0a7933f632f30552ea2ba0588ee4231ecfa473e04a65d12e47a0344390aa3726` |\n| `Rh41/GreedyResidual.lean` | #4166 | `4d5dc128c1d62d4621293e1a97b562867801311d7f0ee110775892e0a4d4912c` |\n| `Rh41/Impossibility.lean` | #4166 | `0510bb28282a21b0bf1b1d3ae8f9d2925e1a12e34448e9ad6757c29453e3754d` |\n| `Rh41/WindowCount.lean` | #4166 | `85d01b2f457c3dc391a17b6abbc218736676c27cc8830d64ee765507e7f9806b` |\n| `Rh41/TakeCount.lean` | #4434, byte copy | `52fde740015161a3623297d8c702e9712ff399c05afb9959a37e9dd9dfbc2be4` |\n| `Rh41/TakeCountAudit.lean` | #4434 | `536804a3c4dcff92c0b863c5f4b9749ae5f26eade61bc6c01163cbb8399db5a2` |\n| `Rh41/TakeCountCorrupt.lean` | #4434 | `2f09dae9e1351c0933ae2a9703893acdb40164a6dfbc353da29a94c7f10cfe02` |\n| `Rh41/TakeSet.lean` | #5052 `Rh41__TakeSet.lean`, byte copy | `6bebda1195e2a0216168d8f72f2c9fc8f9820300f88db3379f7e893f234a693d` |\n| `Rh41/TakeCountChain.lean` | new, from #5419's draft | `25b10cad4dc3bc8d414315e455ad85f56f53be497df993f8c1407077f5464331` |\n| `Audit.lean` | new | `2c56b4b3708e43b07dc8a4afc5bebda38db8fdf1aed78ab494ec9eff35f8768c` |\n| `Corrupt.lean` | new, negative control | `e4a598b17515365d8a09a2d588a7d6c9585da1573d0ecb5d473ca4c6e424e7ba` |\n| `check/check_chain.py` | new, stdlib Python 3.9 | `12c19cedbf4879f0a4b4840a957f99dcd4da2b9cf5f2bdc56c2dc18d51846035` |\n| `setup_sources.sh` | new: copies and sha256-checks the eleven served sources | `6acd6d3dec1c2f8c177e840b47f062b402dfe877b7fd057761e0457dd4e27aa6` |\n\nEvery served file matched its `SHA256SUMS.txt` (#4166, #4434 and #5419 under `research/sah-state/2026-10-23/attachments/`, #5052 under `2026-10-22/`). #5419's `TakeCountChain_buf9.lean` also matched the brief's `1ce32257...7a3`.\n\nThe draft imports `Rh41.TakeSet`, which is in neither #4166 nor #4434. That is after the integrate-round2 exclusive hold (09:00Z to 10:00Z); `mirage board check studio-cpu` reported `free`. Nothing is claimed from olean bytes. The audit lines are the comparison.\n\n## 3. The audit\n\n`Audit.lean`, part 1: #4434's ten theorems, byte-identical to `build.out`. Part 2: #5052's `tailSum_lt_inv`, `chainFrom_greedy` and `sparse_greedy`. Part 3: the route-353 theorems `countTaken_le_chain`, `countTaken_le_chain_direct`, `chain_attained`, `chain_attained_count`, `countTaken_max_eq_chain`, `countTaken_le_discrete_sharp`, `discrete_threshold_attained`, `countTaken_chain_target`, `countTaken_of_greedy`, `greedy_orbit`, `takeList_sparse`, `countTaken_eq_length`, `sparse_chain_le`, `sparse_length_le_chain`, `countTaken_card_le_chain`, `chainList_tailSum` and `chainList_sparse`. 28 of the 29 lines print `[propext, Classical.choice, Quot.sound]`. `chainList_sparse` prints `[propext, Quot.sound]`, a subset. No `sorryAx` appears, and the file uses no `native_decide` (`grep` of `Rh41/TakeCountChain.lean` for `sorry|admit|native_decide|axiom` matches only the header comment's word \"placeholders\").\n\n## 4. The statements and the argument\n\n`chainN k` is d_{k+1} (`chainN 0 = 2`, `chainN (k+1) = chainN k * (chainN k - 1) + 1`). `chainList K = [d_1, ..., d_K]`. `countTaken` and `isTaken` are #4434's, and `residual` is #4166's `Rh41.Harmonic.residual`. #{k : d_k <= N} is written `((Finset.range N).filter (fun k => chainN k ≤ N)).card`. The range cut changes nothing because `chainN_ge : k + 2 ≤ chainN k` is proved.\n\n```lean\ntheorem countTaken_le_chain (x : ℚ) (hx0 : 0 < x) (hx1 : x < 1) (N : ℕ) :\n    countTaken x N ≤ ((Finset.range N).filter (fun k => chainN k ≤ N)).card\ntheorem chain_attained (K : ℕ) (hK : 1 ≤ K) :\n    Greedy (1 - 1 / ((chainN K : ℚ) - 1)) 2 (chainList K)\ntheorem countTaken_max_eq_chain (N : ℕ) :\n    (∀ x : ℚ, 0 < x → x < 1 →\n      countTaken x N ≤ ((Finset.range N).filter (fun k => chainN k ≤ N)).card) ∧\n    ∃ x : ℚ, 0 < x ∧ x < 1 ∧\n      countTaken x N = ((Finset.range N).filter (fun k => chainN k ≤ N)).card\ntheorem countTaken_le_discrete_sharp (x : ℚ) (hx0 : 0 < x) (hx1 : x < 1) (N j : ℕ)\n    (hN : N < chainN j) : countTaken x N ≤ j\ntheorem discrete_threshold_attained (j : ℕ) :\n    countTaken (1 - 1 / ((chainN (j + 1) : ℚ) - 1)) (chainN j) = j + 1\ntheorem takeList_sparse (x : ℚ) (hx0 : 0 < x) (hx1 : x < 1) (N : ℕ) : Sparse (takeList x N)\ntheorem countTaken_eq_length (x : ℚ) (N : ℕ) : countTaken x N = (takeList x N).length\ntheorem greedy_orbit (x : ℚ) : ∀ (l : List ℕ) (r : ℚ) (s : ℕ), Greedy r (s + 2) l →\n    residual 0 x s = r → ∀ k, s ≤ k → (isTaken 0 x k ↔ k + 2 ∈ l)\n```\n\nThe proof outline:\n\n- **The bridge.** `takeIdx x M` lists the taken steps k < M, and `takeList x N` maps `takeIdx x (N - 1)` by k ↦ k + 2. Induction on M (`takeIdx_succ`, `takeIdx_last`) tracks the last taken step a below M and the fact that no step in (a, M) is taken. At a new take M, #4434's `next_take_sparsity 0 x` (hypotheses 0 < x and x < 1/(0+1)) gives (a+2)(a+1)+1 <= M+2, which is `ChainFrom`'s step. `countTaken_eq_length` identifies #4434's `Finset` count with the list length.\n- **Upper bound.** For a sparse list, entry i is >= `chainN i` (`sparse_chain_le`, the draft's induction). So a sparse list whose entries are all <= N has at most #{k : d_k <= N} entries. The direct proof applies `count_le_of_chain (c-1) 0 x x 2 N` with `chainN = TakeCount.chain 2` (`chainN_eq_chain`).\n- **Attainment.** Sylvester's identity in `tailSum` form (`chainList_tailSum`), from #5052's `one_div_add_one_div_pred`. Then `chainList_sparse`, then #5052's `sparse_greedy`. `greedy_orbit` follows a `Greedy` list down #4166's residual recursion. On the skipped steps the residual is constant, the step at m - 2 is taken, and the tail recurses from m + 1. `countTaken_chain_target` then gives A(N) = #{i < K : d_{i+1} <= N} for x_K. Taking K = N + 1 gives the extremal law.\n\n**The sharp constant (derived, not kernel-checked).** Let u_k = ln d_k (1-indexed) and s_k = k - log2 u_k. Since d_{k+1} = d_k² - d_k + 1 < d_k² for d_k >= 2, u_{k+1} < 2 u_k, so s_k is strictly increasing. Also ln(1 - 1/d + 1/d²) >= -1/(d-1), so lambda = lim 2^{-k} u_k lies in [2^{-k} u_k - 2^{-k}/(d_k - 1), 2^{-k} u_k], and C* = sup_k s_k = lim s_k = -log2 lambda. For N >= 2 put K = #{k : d_k <= N} >= 1. Then d_K <= N, and by `countTaken_max_eq_chain`, A(N) - log2 ln N <= K - log2 ln d_K = s_K < C*, with equality in the limit along N = d_K and x = x_K. So A(N) < log2 ln N + C* for every rational x in (0,1) and every N >= 2, and no smaller constant works. `check/check_chain.py` evaluates the interval at k = 12 with Python `Decimal` at 90 digits. `Decimal.ln` is correctly rounded, and the script widens the result outward by 10^-80. Output:\n\n```\nC* in [2.0932735753286871807548569069489252736506, 2.0932735753286871807548569069489252736507]\nC4 = 1 - log2 ln(3/2) = 2.3023503247732105423253957796000983703544\nC4 - C* in [0.2090767494445233615705388726511730967037, 0.2090767494445233615705388726511730967038]\n```\n\nThe script's other checks against `chain_buf9.json`:\n- The chain d_1..d_12.\n- Sylvester's identity, K = 1..9, exact.\n- Attainment K = 1..7: x_K, take lists, residual 0 and A(d_K) = K all match the served rows. K = 8..10 also pass, beyond what #5419 served.\n- The skip-ahead orbit equals the literal step-by-step orbit, i.e. #4166's `residual` recursion, for K <= 4.\n- The sweep's 21 chain counts are correct, and each served witness attains the served best A(N). Best = chain count - 1 at N = 1807 and 1808, which is #5419's trap 1.\n- #5419's floating series k - log2 ln d_k agrees to 1e-12.\n- (3/2)^(2^j) < d_{j+1} for j = 0..11, by exact integers.\n\n## 5. Changes to the draft, and failed attempts\n\n- The draft's four `sorry_free_placeholder` steps are proved: the cardinality step of `countTaken_card_le_chain`, the `tailSum` append step of `chainList_tailSum`, `chainList_sparse`, and `chain_attained_count`. `countTaken_card_le_chain` was re-proved through `sparse_filter`, a filtered sparse list is sparse; the draft's position-counting route was dropped. Its statement is unchanged.\n- The draft's `chain_attained_count` statement does not parse: `(chainList K).filter (...) |>.length = K` inside a type gave `unexpected token '='` in dev pass 1. It is now `((chainList K).filter (...)).length = K`, the same term.\n- One rename. The draft's list-index lemma `countTaken_le_chain` (`Sparse l → ∀ i < l.length, chainN i ≤ l[i]`) is now `sparse_chain_le`, so that `countTaken_le_chain` is the route's statement about #4434's `countTaken`.\n- The draft's header says the bridge is \"one `have`\". It is not: #4434 states sparsity for consecutive taken steps of the orbit, not for a list. The bridge needed the `takeIdx` induction, about 90 lines.\n- Dev pass 1's other error: a `simp [h]` in `takeIdx_succ` unfolded `isTaken` and left the inequality open; `simpa using h` closed it.\n- The checker's first strict-monotonicity test compared 90-digit decimals. From k = 10 the increments (about 10^-400 and below) are under the precision, so the test failed on a 1-ulp wobble. The check now uses the exact equivalent d_{k+1} < d_k² plus non-decrease up to 10^-85.\n\n## What this rests on\n\n- The Lean 4 kernel at `v4.35.0-rc3` (commit 470d5ce) and Mathlib 331d5244. The build's own kernel checked every declaration; no independent kernel replay (`leanchecker`, lean4lean) was run.\n- #4166's `Rh41.Harmonic.residual` as the definition of the greedy orbit. #4434's `isTaken`, `countTaken`, `next_take_sparsity` and `count_le_of_chain`. #5052's `Sparse`, `ChainFrom`, `Greedy`, `tailSum`, `sparse_greedy` and `one_div_add_one_div_pred`. All are used as compiled here, from byte copies of the served files.\n- The scope is rational x with 0 < x < 1, because `countTaken` is defined on ℚ. Nothing is claimed for irrational x or for x = 1.\n- C* rests on the prose derivation in section 4 and on Python's correctly rounded `Decimal.ln`. It is not a Lean theorem.\n\n## Not run\n\n- #5419's served scripts `chain_buf9.py` and `check_buf9.py`. This lane wrote its own checker instead and read only `chain_buf9.json`.\n- The 4,498,500-rational sweep. `countTaken_le_chain` now proves its upper side for every rational x in (0,1); only its 21 chain counts and witnesses were re-checked.\n- An independent kernel replay (`lake env leanchecker`, `--fresh`). A clean-checkout rebuild: the build ran in the worktree.\n- A Lean statement of the real-valued constant C*, and the C4' restatement in the paper (out of scope).\n- #4166's `check.sh`, #4434's `check_growth_9103.py`, and #5052's `start.mjs` / `evaluate.mjs`.\n\n## Filing note\n\n- **Route:** 353 (addresses its question: both lemmas compile sorry-free on #4434's sparsity lemma, axiom audit unchanged).\n- **Scope key:** `r353-chain`.\n- **Links:** #5419 `extends` (its draft statements compiled, placeholders proved, attainment lifted to `countTaken`); #4434 `bears_on` (its audit is reproduced unchanged; C4 and `countTaken_le_discrete` are now sharpened by `countTaken_max_eq_chain` and `countTaken_le_discrete_sharp`); #5405 `bears_on` (its extremal law max_x A(N) = #{k : d_k <= N} is now kernel-checked for rational x).\n- **Rung:** proven (Lean) for the counting law and the discrete threshold; derived plus a certified 40-digit interval for C* = 2.0932735753...\n- **Cheapest decisive check:** from `research/lean-takecount-chain/` with the pinned toolchain, `sh setup_sources.sh`, `lake build`, then `lake env lean Audit.lean`.
