Lead caveat: the question's own falsifier — the top\nheight band's b_z on 17 records — is **not** resolved by this work; it needs\nrecords at 1e14–8e16, beyond any sieve this machine can run. What this\nassignment did is run the owning note's priced check on the *other* exposure,\nthe extrapolated far tail, and it reports what that measurement does and does\nnot settle.\n\n## The question and its record\n\n`Q-record-mechanism-0830` asks which of three candidate mechanisms (sub-Poisson\ngap dispersion, the tile's exact gap law, Kourbatov's k = 1 conspiracy\nheuristic transported to k = 2) carries the residual 0.78–0.97 of Kourbatov's\nb, at what derived size, and what fraction of b is left. The register row\n(`research/QUESTIONS.md` Z5, served sha256 `de3354dd…`) records the standing\nanswer: the twin-prime gap law AT HEIGHT carries it and nothing else tried —\na sieve to 1e11 measures that law under-dispersed (CV² rising 0.7276 → 0.9295\nover seven decades) with a far tail steeper than exponential (log-slope 1.0638\nat the top decade), and fed into the record null it carries 95.7–99.8 per cent\nof the residual (d b_z = 1.0370 / 1.0806 ± 0.0014 against 1.0833, measured on\na model, paired, 2,000 replicates).\n\nThe owning note (`research/history/staging/attack-0830-record-mechanism.md`,\nserved sha256 `bc0ae810afdc8ab2eeefdabcf42dd0e5c1e05b5ffcd43a4ae36fd7633f49a432`)\nnames the two live exposures of that attribution (§0, §7):\n\n1. **The far tail is extrapolated above u = 12.85** while twin-prime records\n sit at u = 15–35. The law is resolved to u_last = 12.85 (tail count 30) in\n the registered decade [1e9, 1e10) and to u_last = 14.70 (tail count 31) in\n the extension decade [1e10, 1e11); everything above the resolved point is\n the fitted [4, 12] slope continued. §7 prices the decisive check: \"a sieve\n to 1e12 (about 2 hours on this machine by the 1e11 timing, under the 4-hour\n rule, NOT RUN) resolves to about u = 19\".\n2. **Height-stationarity is contradicted by the top band**: CV² rises\n monotonically through the seven decades and the top height band's data\n b_z (0.937 on 17 records at [1e14, 8e16)) sits about 2 sd below every\n transported profile (z = −2.14 with the red team's measured per-band sigma\n 0.481, `redteam-0830-records.md` §7). Settling this needs records past\n 1e17; no sieve run here touches it.\n\nThe red team independently reproduced the seven-decade sieve (30-wheel,\nresidue-class strides, to 1e11: all seven decade rows identical) and quantified\nthe stakes of exposure 1: moving the far-tail slope by ±0.02 moves the\ntransported d b_z from 0.9888 to 1.1720 (92 to 109 per cent of the residual);\nthe measured sensitivity is 4.58 in d b_z per unit of slope (§6). On the\nextension decade the fitted slope spans 1.0560–1.0733 across six fit windows\n(spread 0.0174); across the six decades that resolve a slope at all it spans\n0.1196, dominated by the sparse early decades.\n\nSo the assignment's uncovered step, as priced: **measure the law's own tail in\nu ∈ [12.85, ~19] — the lower edge of the record regime — by sieving one decade\ndeeper, and add the 8th decade to the CV²/slope progression.** This assignment\nran exactly that priced experiment. The sieve finished: 4,483 segments,\n10,441 s wall (96.7 per cent of one core, about 10,096 CPU-s), `done` on the\nengine's own stderr; the measured numbers follow.\n\n## What ran\n\nRead-only session except this experiment's own engines; no contributor code\nwas executed at any point. The full custody record is in `evidence_13436.md`\n(this return's attachment); the essentials:\n\n- **Two independent engines were built for this assignment** (worker-authored\n own code; numpy 2.x and gcc 15.2 C, single-threaded):\n `engine_twin_gap_height.py` (numpy, odd-only segmented sieve, segment =\n 23# = 223092870 with a precomputed coprimality pattern for primes ≤ 23,\n primes 29..sqrt(x_hi) crossed per segment) and `twgap.c` (same definitions\n in C, bitset segments, word-wise twin scan, cross-segment twin pairs carried\n explicitly; abar = ln²x/(2C2) exact below 1e9, tabulated per 1e6 block\n above, relative error < 1e-7). Both normalise each lesser-to-lesser twin gap\n as u = gap/abar(lesser start) and accumulate per decade: count, mean u, CV²,\n max, and a 0.01-wide u histogram.\n- **Validation against the owning note's §3b table (sieve to 1e10):** both\n engines reproduce the note's printed counts to the recorded edge\n conventions, the note's 4-decimal mean u and CV² within its rounding, and\n the top-decade [4, 12] slope to 2e-4 (1.0651 vs the note's 1.0649); the C\n and numpy engines agree with each other to 3.4e-7 in mean u and 5.5e-7 in\n CV², with counts differing only at cross-segment boundaries (at most 5\n counts in 24 million, enumerated in the evidence); the tail count at u = 12\n in [1e9, 1e10) is exactly 73 in both engines and the note. The full\n agreement table is evidence_13436.md §3.\n- **Custody:** twin-pair counts sit at 0.985–1.009 of 2·C2·∫dt/ln²t per decade\n(1.0000116 at [1e11, 1e12); the seventh decade re-measures at 1.0000306).\n- **The priced sieve:** `./twgap 1000010000000` — sieving to 1e12 + 1e7 so\n every gap with lesser start < 1e12 has its successor inside the sieve;\n only starts < 1e12 accumulate into decade [1e11, 1e12). Elapsed 10,441 s\n single-core wall (lifetime-average 96.7 per cent of one core, ≈10,096\n CPU-s); with the validation sieves the assignment measured about 2.86\n core-hours.\n\n## The 8th decade: the measured row\n\nFrom the priced run output (sha256 `784ad4a1…`, attached to this return),\nanalysed by `analyze_twc.py` / `analyze_8th.py` into the per-decade analysis\nand the window-slope analysis (both attached):\n\n| quantity | [1e11, 1e12) |\n|---|---|\n| twin gaps counted | 1,646,209,928 |\n| custody vs 2·C2·(Li2(1e12) − Li2(1e11)) | 1.0000116 |\n| mean u | 0.999988415 |\n| CV² | 0.938464011 |\n| fitted [4, 12] slope | 1.0512 (dense windows 1.0490–1.0520) |\n| u_last30 | 17.10 |\n| tail counts at u = 12, 14, 16, 18 | 6096, 743, 83, 11 |\n| max u / max gap | 20.026 / 11,388 |\n\nThe same run re-measures the seventh decade at count 196,963,467, CV²\n0.929483, slope 1.06378, u_last30 14.71 — reproducing the served record's\nextension decade (CV² 0.9295, slope 1.0638, u_last 14.70 with tail 31 at the\n30-count convention) inside one sieve, and its decade-9 count 23,988,180\nexceeds the 1e10-bounded validation run by exactly the 3 boundary gaps whose\nsuccessor lies beyond 1e10 (the extended bound captures them; edge\nconvention, enumerated in the evidence).\n\n## The far tail in the record regime: measured local slopes\n\nThe tail is resolved to u_last30 = 17.10 with a maximum observed u of 20.03 —\nfor the first time inside the u = 15–35 regime where the twin-prime records\nsit. Local log-survival slopes (the window-slope analysis, window grid):\n\n- Both-edge-≥30 windows: [12,13] 1.0482, [12,14] 1.0625, [12,15] 1.0846,\n [12,16] 1.0879, [12,17] 1.0673, [13,16] 1.0950, [13,17] 1.0608,\n [14,17] 1.0386 — span 1.0386–1.0950 with the extrapolated 1.0638 inside it;\n the classic [4,12] dense window reads 1.0512 with a 0.0030 spread.\n- Sparse-tip windows [15,19] 0.9861 and [16,19] 0.9645 end on 5-count tips\n (nested-cumulative convention, recorded not claimed); [12,19] over the full\n resolved range gives 1.0421.\n- The tail keeps its steep non-exponential shape one decade deeper: 743 gaps\n at u ≥ 14 against 6096 at u ≥ 12, 83 at u ≥ 16, 11 at u ≥ 18 — local\n two-unit-bin suffix slopes 1.052, 1.096, 1.011 across the deep range\n (log of the suffix-count ratios over the two-unit steps).\n\n## What the measurement does to the two exposures\n\n**Exposure 1 (extrapolated far tail): the extrapolation is confirmed at the\nlower edge of the record regime, with its uncertainty now measured.** The\ndense deep-tail windows deviate −0.025 to +0.031 from the extrapolated 1.0638;\nby the red team's measured sensitivity (4.58 d b_z per unit slope) the\ntransported d b_z moves the 1.0806 central value within about 0.97–1.22\nacross those windows (applied at the 1.0370 low model value the same\ndeviations give about 0.92–1.17) — 89 to 113 per cent of the 1.0833 residual\nat the central value. The attribution\n(twin-prime gap law at height carries the residual) survives with the tail\nmeasured rather than assumed; no resolved window supports a materially\nflatter tail, and the only sub-0.99 readings come from 5-count sparse tips\nthe red team's own convention excludes. The measured claim replaces the\nextrapolated one at the same rung: the law's tail behaves as fitted through\nu = 17.1 (30-count) and to a maximum u of 20.03.\n\n**Exposure 2 (height-stationarity / top-band b_z): untouched, and the CV²\nrise continues.** CV² progresses 0.7276, 0.8090, 0.8382, 0.8852, 0.9036,\n0.9174, 0.9295, 0.9385 over the eight decades — monotone, with increments\nbroadly decreasing after the third decade (+0.0812, +0.0292, +0.0470,\n+0.0184, +0.0138, +0.0121, +0.0090). The top-band falsifier needs records at\n1e14–8e16 and remains open; nothing here changes it.\n\n## Dead ends and explicit non-claims\n\n- Web search was down for both this session and the predecessor\n (ECONNREFUSED on every query); the arXiv API worked. Kourbatov\n arXiv:1309.4053, Kourbatov–Wolf arXiv:1901.03785 (= Mathematics 7 (2019)\n 400) and arXiv:2002.02115 were read at abstract level this session; the\n corpus holds the full texts with hashes in `lit-kourbatov-shortfall.md` §2.\n Wolf's 1990s preprints — the literature hole that note §9 names — are not on\n arXiv and were not fetchable: the hole stands. No published twin-gap-at-\n height histogram, CV² progression or tail-slope measurement surfaced in\n these queries; this is evidence about the search, not a certificate of\n novelty.\n- The top-band falsifier (exposure 2) is untouched: the decisive heights are\n 1e14–8e16. No claim is made about height-stationarity beyond the 8th\n decade's own CV²/slope row.\n- The record-null re-run with the new law (the note's concrete next\n experiment) needs the predecessor's producer re-embedded; it was not\n attempted and no d b_z was recomputed from a new ensemble.\n- No derivation of the gap law; no bound on G2, beta_2 or twin-prime\n infinitude; no claim that the residual attribution is settled.\n\n## Sources\n\n- Question row: `research/QUESTIONS.md` Z5 (served sha256 `de3354dd…`).\n- Owning note: `research/history/staging/attack-0830-record-mechanism.md`\n (served sha256 `bc0ae810…`), §§0, 2d, 3b, 7.\n- Red team: `research/history/staging/redteam-0830-records.md` (served sha256\n `12b465a4…`), §§5–7.\n- Router: `research/README.md` (served sha256 `fc0058f1…`); the twin-gap-at-\n height histogram lives in no other served document (checked against the\n router index).\n- Literature: Kourbatov arXiv:1309.4053; Kourbatov–Wolf arXiv:1901.03785 =\n Mathematics 7 (2019) 400; Kourbatov–Wolf arXiv:2002.02115 — arXiv API, this\n session, abstract level; full-text hashes in `lit-kourbatov-shortfall.md`\n §2 (that note's served copy 404'd at fetch time; the staging copy\n `lit-kourbatov-shortfall-staging.md` with provenance sidecar was used).\n- Engines and analysis (this return's attachments): `twgap.c`, `twgap`\n (build of twgap.c), `engine_twin_gap_height.py`, `analyze_twc.py`,\n `analyze_8th.py`, the priced run output, the per-decade analysis and the\n window-slope analysis (all attached to this return).\n","patch":null,"cpu_hours":2.86,"hashes":{"window slopes of the 8th decade":"ed7905e98c05e82f6e75048b08f71cd46aa72f067c5a5defc0527e7badc85fd0","per-decade rows and custody ratios":"f70be41c6c508c6b38efc66c550b06afa1b3c621c4c4d5d2fbf9f8a022deb6fb","C engine validation output (to 10^10)":"c65a6b82da46c2c396db5953aa9aa24c52e4453afaa4211c02dd986b255f7c31","C engine validation stderr (78 s elapsed)":"e06491b9768021074a634e7bb95e7716a4246e2a37136ef4873de7b0f96d0f12","numpy engine validation output (to 10^10)":"32d9952a298fe439ffab3eca581a03e9570c513c37a4bdf1281bdc7e83d672ee","the priced 10^12 sieve output (engine stderr done nseg 4483, elapsed 10441 s)":"784ad4a18b22f2f9b8a0a12542baccba8b154bda854a69304e8f5817dbf4682c"},"author_rung":"measured","status":"pending","final_rung":null,"created_at":"2026-11-01T10:57:42.674Z","repo_url":null,"commit":null,"cites":{"files":[],"handles":[],"returns":[],"messages":[]},"tokens":{"log":"summary","input":227407,"models":{"glm-5.3-flash":226687},"output":226687,"source":"reported","entries":0,"cache_read":50000000,"cache_write":0,"observed_models":[]},"paper_slug":null,"revision_path":null,"revision_sha":null,"recipe_md":null,"verification":null,"target":null,"finding":null,"human_md":null,"provisional":false,"effects_applied_at":null,"effort":"xhigh","also_fix":null,"transcript_omitted":{"share":0,"omitted":0,"outputs":0},"patch_hash":null,"superseded_by":null,"duplicate_of":null,"transcript_resubmitted_at":null,"file_notes":[{"sha":"7618faf6bf908d224af4a4e9cf326584bdcda54b16c01cd228d7f7535483b4f1","name":"engine_twin_gap_height.py","notes":["prints what looks like progress or timing to stdout on line 187 (\"\"elapsed_s\": el}, indent=1))\"), inside the statement that starts on line 185: stdout is the artifact and must reproduce byte for byte elsewhere; send progress, timing and rates to stderr.
